A word from Sant Ambroeus - West Village
Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room.
We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.

Diner Reviews
  • "S Ambroeus sits in a great location. The restaurant is small so reservations are a must. The menu is small so the diner must be flexible. The wait staff is small but friendly and attentive. All of these characteristics are fine except that the portions themselves are extremely small. Too bad the bill never is."

  • "This place is a Restaurant Week regular for us! It never disappoints and each dish is unique to this place. For example, I ordered gazpacho to start and a bowl of devine yellow liquid was presented! No it wasn't Mexican like....It was terrific, in a Mediterannean way. GO!"

  • "Delicious home made pasta and wonderful appetizers. It would have been a romantic dinner except that the noise level is pretty high. But for 2 couples out for a great meal, it was perfect. They even had a candle in the delicious chocolate mousse cake for my birthday. It couldn't have been nicer."

  • "Since there is no house wine and the least expensive red is over $40 it makes even a simple dinner expensive."

  • "RW lunch. Great choices.....including vitello tonnato...very hard to find on NYC menus..as an appetizer choice! Wine pairing,,one for each course..offered for an additional $15.00. I started with the vitello, then pasta with veal Bolognese, and the Sant Ambroeus pastry for dessert! Superb! Lovely atmosphere and attentive service! Perfect break in the workday!"

  • "We ended up in the area much earlier than our reservations so we were hoping to be able to eat at the bar. The maitre d' was so accommodating, even though this was our first time, we were treated as if we were neighborhood regulars. When our daughter showed up after our entrees but before our dessert; without even a blink, they made room for her and brought her a vegetarian restaurant week appetizer and entree. Everything we eat was fantastic; the lentil salad, grilled octopus, gnocchi, and chicken. This will definitely be our go-to restaurant when we are in the West Village."

  • "From the minute we walked in the staff of Sant Ambroeus made us feel welcome! Taking our coats and offering us drinks our waiter Dimitri was so friendly and attentive, even noticing small things like when one of us did not like our drink (which he replaced!) to bringing us a small plate of assorted cookies on the house at the end of the meal. The food was superb, with all the pasta cooked exactly right, nothing over cooked, the best of all our dishes was unanimously the fettuccine with clams. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends for everything from casual weekday dinners to special occasions!"

  • "I had taken clients here a few weeks early & maybe because we had a large party (12) everything was quite good, but a bit pricey. So, a few weeks later I returned with my wife for a quiet dinner. We had an appetizer, the sea bass, the chicken, dessert and 3 glasses of wine, coffee. $180 w/ tip. You know, for that price, everything should have been impeccable, but was pretty average. Or in my case below average. My chicken was tough and covered with a Knorr chicken sauce (?) & the potatoes seemed like instant. My wife said the fish was salty, but on the plus side she thought it was fresh. Also, I know it's NYC & a small place, but for that price, I don't want to have dinner w/ the couple next to me. Good service, but overall so-so.."

  • "A very nice place with a good down home menu. The pasta's were exceptional as well as the eggplant. Wine list was a bit skimpy but the environment, service and food more than made up for it."
