Diner Reviews
  • "It's obvious why the restaurant is named Sangria 46. There are plenty of choices on the menu, but the kitchen uses a lot of oil in their preparation. What was disappointing is that we had to ask them to make one of our tapas, hot (temperature wise). I've never been served "just warm" food before. The second attempt at the temperature, wasn't much better than the first. Because of the Sangria and menu variety, the restaurant is worth going to, once."

  • "We loved the food. We ordered small plates (5 plates for 2 of us). All were very good. The portions were big and the price was not. The red Sangria was very good too. We sat outside where it was much quieter than the inside seating. Also, we got to Sangria 46 1 and a half hours before our show. We were served very quickly and made it to the show in plenty of time."

  • "We ordered a pitcher of sangria and 4 tapas dishes. More than enough food and it was very good. Wife liked asparagus with garlic in a cheese sauce and I had grilled calamari with red peppers (hot). The other 2 dishes were also great. As was the sangria. There was actually liquor in it. Not formal and great service. Definitely a recommendation and a repeat visit."

  • "Restaurant has an extensive tapas menu, 3 of the 4 tapas were the size of a large appetizer. Definitely good value for the money, but the food was just fair. They had various flavors of sangria which was refreshing. Given the frenetic pace of the theater district, this was is a oasis, dining al fresco on the back patio."

  • "Four of us dined and no one had a particularly good meal. Empenada appetizer was not crisp and was bland and had little filling inside. Entree of Shrimp a la Plancha was okay at best. Side dish of rice had hard grains of rice in it. Either uncooked or more likely burnt. Paella was nothing special. The only reason to go here is because the prices are reasonable for the food and wine. For me it is not enough of a reason to go back. Service was fine."

  • "Sangria 46 really lives up to its name! The sangria selection is great. The tapas are perfect if you are looking to share or the paella is a great choice as well!"

  • "While neither the food nor service was great, both were satisfactory. The tapas were tasty, but the paella was bland. The gazpacho was fresh but lacked the zing that should be in such a dish. Many servers came to pour the Sangria, but when we wanted something the dining floor was deserted."

  • "very delicious foods, sangria and reasonable price. The restaurant is conveniently located from Times Square."

  • "So nice to sit outside on a nice evening. Wonderful, charming and funny waiter. Sadly, one table was obnoxiously loud but that's clearly not the fault of the restaurant. We'll be back."

  • "While dining here on the outside patio, you don't even realize you're in the hustle and bustle of New York City, definitely not a short walk from any Broadway show you want to see. Conveniently located for a pre-broadway or post-broadway meal. Delicious quinoa salad and the vegetable paella is fantastic!"

  • "Fixed price lunch seemed like the best deal but when my husband's mussels came out only 5 of them were actually edible because the other 10 were not even open. Never saw that in my experience in any restaurant...except maybe one out of an order. Sent them back and we were brought grilled garlic shrimp, which was good as was the stuffed mushrooms. Had better experience with the entrees- Sole Limon was tender and delicious. Shrimp and chorizo with rice was served with grilled plantains and was also quite good. Flan was pretty good for the dessert. Service was fine-we sat outside in the back and there were not many diners for this Saturday lunch pre theater time so it was not too loud at all..but hard to judge that based on limited experience."

  • "Hands down they got the best sangrias in NYC! Delicious food but the service is the worst! I been here on two separate occasions and the first time they seemed really busy and understaffed so I gave them a pass and came back with a group of 12. This time it was very slow and the service was still terrible staff is nice but not attentive at all. They left us there for a long time before taking our order or even giving us menues. If the food and drinks weren't as good as they are I would never come back again."

  • "Went here with our kids before heading home. We found the restaurant decor and ambience was nothing to write home about and the food, although fresh seemed to be just a collection of the base ingredients on a plate. Sauces and interesting garnishes, etc were lacking. Worth noting we had the tapas menu. Albondigas were notable. Staff were friendly and helpful."

  • "I went with 2 friends to Sangria 46 before a broadway show. While the restaurant is small, it has a very nice outdoor garden in the back. There is a very good menu with lots of variety. We ordered a number of tapas that we shared for dinner. The food is very good - fresh, well prepared & very tasty as was the sangria! The service was attentive and got us out on time without being rushed. We will definitely be back."

  • "We went for a pre-theater lunch. I ordered from the prix-fixe menu. My entree of shrimp with green sauce was not green and did not have the rich parsley and garlic flavor I was looking for. Another in our party ordered a rice with calamari and shrimp. The rice was tasteless and both the shrimp and calamari had a rubbery texture. The sangria was nothing special. When we did complain about the rice dish, it was taken off the bill. I was looking forward to authentic spanish food and this did not meet my expectations."

  • "One has no right to expect, in the crowded theatre district, a spot with such good food, absurdly low prices (especially their prix fixe menu, which is Extensive), attentive service, and Room to Move. The latter really distinguishes this place among others I sometimes go to for pre-theatre meals. Especially on the patio in back, one is not elbow to elbow with the next table, and that is a luxury one does not usually experience in this neighborhood. Oh... and the Portions are Huge-- not necessarily a selling point, I know... but ordered a mussels diablo appetizer, and it was large enough for a meal. Alas, I had already ordered a complete 3 course lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed also the sole limon and the flan. Burp!"

  • "We had a very nice meal here. The waiter was very personable, the manager (or maybe owner?) came by and checked on us to make sure everything was good. Pacing was typical for a tapas restaurant, dishes come out as they're ready. We were in NYC for the weekend and picked this place on a whim. We were very glad we did!"

  • "I was somewhat disappointed to find coconut shrimp on a Spanish tapas menu. Great service, sangria was very good but no better than what I make at home, food was good but we've had better tapas. The paella was fresh and tasty but the waiter didn't mention it would take 35 minutes to make until we asked what was taking so long (we had show tickets). There was only one piece of chicken but it was very good and plenty of seafood which tasted very good. The empanadas tasted good too but nothing special. We expected them to be somewhat spicier. Crab stuffed mushrooms were the best thing we ordered. Overall a good place, especially for multiple couples or groups."

  • "Outdoor seating was real nice, great Sangria but my wife's skirt steak ordered med-rare came out well done. Waited for new piece & it came 15 minutes later very rare and not a good cut this time. They tried to re-cook it but now too well done again so she had to order something else. You'd think a NYC restaurant would get this right especially at lunch with no crowd and no pressure. My dish, shrimp, sausage and rice with plantains was excellent."

  • "Came here based on the recommendation for sangria. While the drinks were pretty decent, it's a lively after work kind of place, which I didn't expect, so the noise level was much higher than expected. The food was OK, but not all was hot when it arrived and we had to ask for one dish twice. Overall, it's OK, but generally not impressive."

  • "We had a great night at Sangria. We sat in the courtyard, shared 4 tasty tapas + dessert and had the most pleasant server. Usually the food & service in the theater district is less than stellar, not at Sangria. Looking forward to returning here."

  • "The food was delicious. The service good and the Sangria to die for! The place was crowded and a wee bit noisy but great food and good service at a terrific price will bring the theater goers out! Can't wait it return!"

  • "Obviously NYC has thousands of options when it comes to neighborhood dining. The group (4 people) were looking for tapas and there were only a couple options in the area we were. The place was pretty empty (7:15 reservation) when we walked in. We asked to pull two table together in a specific area but were told that they needed to save those for couples. That area ended up only having two couples come in during our 1.5 hours. The food was not bad by any stretch but it was not to the level where anyone said that was really good. Will not go back simply because there are so many other options that I have not tried. The manager came by a couple times and chatted with us which was nice."

  • "The staff was friendly and welcoming. Our table for 7 was ready for us.We all ordered Prefix dinner which included appetizer, main course, dessert, and coffee/tea. Large number of choices and good variety. The food was delicious and portions generous. Ordered pitchers of red and white Sangria wonderful. Wait staff very attentive, atmosphere was fun and relaxed. All agreed we want to come back to try more of their delicious offerings."

  • "We previously only had lunch at Sangria 46, which was not only very good, with excellent friendly service, and attractive surroundings, but was also a really good bargain. We're happy to say that dinner is very much the same. While dinners don't include a glass of wine, the wine list was reasonable and very affordable. Overall, Sangria 46 is likely to become a regular stop for us."

  • "Found this place using open table and it was EXCELLENT!!! Our waiter was on the ball and very Friendly and Funny. He recommended great dishes. Very clean and the BEST Sangria! A great place to go to before or after seeing a show or just for a romantic dinner or a girls night out. The Empanadas were delicious as they were NOT fried nor greasy like other places. They also have Pre-Fixe meals if you like. Was not rushed. Definitely going again"

  • "Great find on restaurant Row. Ther service was great All the waiters pitched in and Kaczan was particularly helpful. The outdoor patio is very enjoyable on a nice day. The food and drinks are moderately priced for NYC, I do not recommend the Paella. Having a large amount of Portuguese and Spanish Restaurants in Northern NJ I am spoiled by large portions and great quality for this dish. But this is NY tourist area so for the price and location it is a good deal."
