A word from Sandiago's Mexican Grill
The views, the food, and the atmosphere combine to make Sandiago's Mexican Grill an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. Sandiago's is located at the base of the Sandia Peak Tramway, in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. The perch above the city gives the restaurant the best views of any restaurant in Albuquerque. Readers of Local IQ recently voted Sandiago's Mexican Grill "Best Restaurant with a view." People flock to the windows and patio to view the city lights and spectacular sunsets. The food is just as spectacular as the sunsets. The meal starts with our home made chips and pico de gallo. The entrees range from traditional New Mexican selections of enchiladas and burritos to the house specialties from coastal Mexico. The Baja Tacos, Mahi Mahi in a creamy white wine garlic broth and grilled Salmon with a three pepper glaze are local favorites. The hand crafted over-sized margaritas and Doogie's Mojito are some of the best drinks in town.

Diner Reviews
  • "We have dined at Sandiago's Mexican Grill dozens of times in the past, and it seems when they are extremely busy, as they were on April 18th, that the kitchen doesn't get things right! The service was good, but the food was mediocre, and the order received was not exactly what was ordered."

  • "Our initial intent was to make the trip to the restuarnat at the top, but as it turns out the Tram was down for bi-annual service. We still wanted to experience the view, so we decided to make this restaurant our stop. Glad we did. Good food and a very nice sunset. Would definitely do it again and recommend it to anyone coming to Albuquerque."

  • "We have been trying out numerous Mexican/New Mexican places to choose a place for an upcoming party. This is the one we decided has the best food. They have some classical Mexican dishes but also many different, more creative dishes. All were very yummy and unlike some other places, not overwhelming large. My husband had the carne adovada, which he loved. I tried the meat by itself and I wasn't sure I liked it but my husband said when it was mixed with the guac/salsa/sour cream, it was great. I had a special seafood dish -- very nicely done. It does have a nice view of the valley but since that is towards the west, it is a bit sunny."

  • "We LOVE this restaurant and have been going there for years! The staff are friendly and fun. The Portobello Stack is awesome, and a special treat for those of us who avoid animal products. They also serve the best pina coladas in town. I get mine "virgin" style (without alcohol) for dessert! Our son is getting married in May, and we are having the rehearsal dinner at Sandiago's on the patio. The view is amazing! It can't be beat in Albuquerque. No wonder it's been voted The Best View in the City! Don't forget to make your reservations (use Open Table and earn points), though, and request a table by the windows or on the patio if it's warm enough. Enjoy!"

  • "Our group of 10 enjoyed the view (sunset & city lights), the food (fresh & flavorful), the staff (patient, accommodating, and competent) and the price (great value for both food & drinks). We will be returning, and bringing more friends! My fish tacos were everything I could ask for!"

  • "There are two eating options at the Sandia Peak Tramway, one at the top and the other at the bottom. Sandiago's is at the bottom of the tram, and was very quiet on a Thursday lunch, because there were few people there. Don't let that scare you, because the food is decent, and the prices are moderate. The menu favors the spicy Southwest fare. We went less spicy with the Southwest Chicken Chowder and the fish tacos. The cream-based crowder was loaded with chicken, corn, and a bit too much potato for my liking. We both enjoyed the grilled mahi-mahi in the tacos, along with the toppings."

  • "Server was indifferent....didn't want to be there. Kinda rude. food was OK...My son had tacos and the meet was too dry to finish. What would bring us back is to enjoy the views."

  • "We brought a couple from Michigan to enjoy the views and food. They were very happy to enjoy the beautiful views with great food and warm temperatures! The best points for our experience were fresh chips (unsalted) and a vegan dish that was delish! Service was excellent, helpful and friendly. If you want good food and fantastic views without going up in the tram..they are afraid of heights this is the place. They are moving here in a few months and say they found their favorite place. Sunday afternoon was a good time to go. Of course it was not tourist season yet."

  • "Been to Sandiago's many many times over the years. This was a special dinner for us and service and food was sub-standard. When seated, the table was not clean and it still had food spilled all over it. Had to request for waitstaff to clean. The steak dinners we ordered were very dry and overall quality was down, at least our order. Beans and rice was extremely dry and had to drink plenty of water to get it down. Overall, very disappointed for this special anniversary dinner. You guys are much better than what we experienced last Sat. night the 15th Mar!"

  • "First off, the dissapointment of the service (even with a reservation, got a bad place by the bar with high traffic) As far as the food, adding oil does not make it Mexican. Well, just bad tasting food. Bad service from waiter. Maybe it's just one out of a hundred, but this experience will not be repeated."

  • "I had the "beef" tacos. I was really looking forward to them. But when I got them I realized they were shredded beef or more like a beef brisket. I was very unhappy, as the menu did not say shredded beef or beef brisket tacos. Unless I missed it on the menu."

  • "I recently retired after 40 years in the government and my family brought me to Sandiago's Mexican Grill as a celebration of my work life. We were ushered into the restaurant on time and put at a table for 5 adults and 2 children facing the sun. :) The waiter promptly lowered the shades when asked. The restaurant was especially vibrant and loud this particular evening and there was lots of people watching to do. The drinks and food were nothing special in Albuquerque, but were more than adequate. The appetizers were half-price until 6 pm and we ordered a lot of them. The service was above average even with the large amount of customers. Overall, we felt like we were well attended to, had a lot of good food, and left satisfied."

  • "Food was good and view was amazing. Unfortunately, although we HD a window seat, our view of the sunset was obstructed by bystanders outside who were taking sunset photos."

  • "I chose this restaurant because I wanted a nice view, great food and great service. That's exactly what we got. The server was especially nice to my elderly mother who wanted to try the soup to make sure the chile wasn't too hot. The server was there enough but not intrusive."

  • "We were thrilled with the special Valentine's Day menu and excited to try the crab stuffed salmon. At 7:15pm when we ordered, the restaurant was out of this special dish being offered for the holiday. The waiter commented "I've sold four in the past hour". It was just too early to have run out of a dish for the night. But we love the atmosphere at this uniquely situated restaurant and always love the view!"

  • "I ordered the Ceviche, which was really delicious. I only got two pieces of shrimp and three pieces of scallops. ( Basically one scallop cut into 3 pieces.) My girlfriend ordered the chipotle tilapia. The small portion of tilapia tasted really great but was overcooked, the spinach was extremely over salted. I ordered the pan seared scallop dinner. Again, the taste was great but for a $20 plate, I only received 4 scallops on my plate. Totally not worth the money. My server only checked on us twice in the 45 mins we were there. I enjoyed the flavor of the food but was extremely disappointed in the small portions for the amount I paid. If portions were slightly bigger I would definitely recommend and come back to this place."

  • "Went to Sandiago's for Valentine's Day. Rode the Tram up to the top of Sandia Peak and ended up getting back down earlier than our reservations. They were able to seat us 30 minutes early! Got a table by a window with a beautiful view of the city lights and the service was excellent. I ordered the seared scallops and my girlfriend had the plantain wrapped sea bass. Both were absolutely delicious! To top it all off we got $8 off of each meal with our tram tickets, making the whole meal really reasonable in price. Highly recommended!"

  • "Our recent Valentine dinner at Sandiago's was a lovely surprise. The ceviche appetizer was amazing.....loaded with shrimp and scallops and delicious. My husband ordered scallops, and though not Mexican, he thought they were the best scallops he has ever eaten. My relleno was equally delicious and just as it should be....crunchy outside crust and oozing with cheese inside. Yum! The evening was topped off with a magnificent desert sunset. Their view is second to none! We loved it all and will be back."

  • "We had a small farewell party. All guests enjoyed their meal. Service was very attentive without being invasive. We lingered over our meal and the host and server were very gracious. They have some traditional New Mexican dishes, but also some other entrees that featured seafood perfectly prepared. Portions were generous. Would be a a great place to take out of town guests."

  • "I've gone multiple times, and it's typically been mediocre to good. Was left disappointed this trip. There was a large business party present, so perhaps that threw off service and the kitchen tonight. What happened to all the green chiles on the nachos?"

  • "Although the ambiance isn't much beyond a typical mexican restaurant, the food sure was! It would rank near the top of my list for food quality and taste. If you are looking for a superb meal that isn't outrageous, then this is the place. Beautiful view too."

  • "Dinner was very good and the service was also very good. The noise level did pick up around 7 pm, but that was to be expected for New Year's Eve. I would go again on a different evening!!"

  • "I traveled with my father, daughter and aunt to Albuquerque to visit places that my dad had lived as a teenager. He has always wanted to ride The Tram, so we did that followed by Dinner. Our waiter was GREAT and we took his recommendations on our Dinner. My dad had the pork, my aunt had the scallops and I had the Blue Corn Enchiladas. Awesome and Plentiful. We also injoyed the Sunset view with our meal. Great Time and Worth the trip."

  • "the service was a bit slow and it was incredibly noisy... I am assuming it was because of balloon fiesta. if we go again, it will not be during a seasonal time."

  • "Overpriced, slim menu. The food wasn't anything I would write home about and the expensive margaritas were very small and tasted like it was cheap mix and no taquila. I would not recommend eating at the establishment. There a way too many better places to eat in Albuequrque."

  • "My wife & I where in town for Albuquerque International Balloon Festa and to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. we were told about this restaurant by a friend who said food was outstanding along with the ride to the top of the peak. This was by far one of the better restaurants that we have been to while her from Florida. The food was OUTSTANDING and so was the server. Service was fast and never had to wait for refill on our drinks. My wife is a vegan so our server advised of a dish for her and he hit it right on the money, she loved it!!!! Thanks"
