  • "We had a very enjoyable tex mex meal. The guacomole was outstanding. Highly recommend if you are looking for mexican!"

  • "I booked this place for my friends bachelorette party and it was awesome! We dined there as well. The food was great....we all sat in silence as we ate. The running joke was, "How do you get six women to be quiet? Put good food in front of them!". Loved the ambience...the lights, the decor....everything was just great and really set the tone for a great evening. They were a little late in getting us to our table for the Bachelorette party, BUT they made up for it in service. Overall, it was such a great time and the DJ was awesome! If you are looking to book bottle service for an event (bachelorette in this case), I would highly recommend them. Super affordable and super fun! "

  • "The Sandbar is located on historic, beautiful State Street, in the heart of great shopping, site-seeing, and everything you've ever expected out of the California experience. Obviously very well managed, from the host to the waiters to the servers and bartenders, smiles abound. Great Happy Hour (4-8pm buy one beer or house wine, get a second for a quarter!). Food was delicious, delivered fast and hot. Atmosphere is a nice mix of family-friendly fun, romance, and stress-free dining. We'll be back!"

  • "The food is great! The scenes is diverse and welcoming. The service is really good and the people overall make it a great experience. I would def. recommend this place to a friend or family member. The wait time for the food is about 15-20 min depending on how busy it is but it is worth the wait."

  • "Love all the lanterns, heat lamps and fire pits! Such a nice place to relax in the evening! The food was solid - cheese enchilada could have been a bit more tasty, but overall everything was good. Same with the waitstaff - solid but not overly friendly. Could smile a bit more and be more engaging."

  • "While on vacation with my boyfriend we found this place and decided to go for happy hour. All the drinks we got were amazing and our server Katie was great ! We sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere We ordered apps and they were ok . Would def tell anyone I knew that they must go if they are ever in the area."

  • "Tried going there for dinner, but apparently it turns into a nightclub at around 10:00 (not my scene). Went back the next day for lunch and was a bit calmer. Wish they'd forget the whole nightclub ruse and try to stay a restaurant."

  • "The tacos were just okay. It was really noisy so be prepared to speak loudly at your table. The service wasn't really great. There's too many people and not enough staff. Also the chip guy wasn't dressed properly. This place is good for the bar and party scene but not really the best place to grab a meal with friends."

  • "This restaurant is one our favorites in Santa Barbara. Its energetic, vibrant environment is ideal for happy hour and a fun date or evening out with friends. I especially enjoy the colored lamps in the outdoor patio area. Also, in my experience, the staff have always been nice, engaging, and helpful."

  • "We booked this bar for the 49er Packers game. We asked for a table with a great view of the big screen TV. Not only did they let us pick a table when we got there but there was really NO BAD table. We were surrounded by at least 7 big screen TV's. It was great for the party. If that wasn't great enough the food was over the top, fresh, and authentic. I cannot say enough about the tequlia's and speciality margaritas. The staff was wonderful and the service was expert!"

  • "We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and were seated promptly. Had an additional 2 guests with us ... A total of 6 people. Menu looked great ... Happy Hour 7 days a week from 4 - 8 pm. Draft beer is the only real value. $6 for first beer and .25 cents for second. Margarita was all ice and about 4 sips of liquid. I ordered watermelon fresco margarita with cumin salted rim - Delish! But not on the happy hourr menu and a ripoff at $10.95 for 4 sips! The food, however, was fantastic! Chips and salsa addicting!!! All 6 of us LOVED our food! I would suggest you skip the mixed drinks ( and sangria ... It's sooper sweet ... Not much wine) and get a draft beer. But don't miss this stop - mexican food at its best!!!"

  • "When did it become acceptable to put conditions on Happy Hour seating? I travel to SB frequently for business and family. One of my favorite past times to happy hour, particularly on State Street. I like Sandbar, not because the drinks are amazing nor the food, but because of its outdoor dining area. I can understand that on weekends or after happy hour (4pm-8pm), Sandbar would like to ensure that the primary outdoor dining area is reserved for people who will order dinner. But Sandbar during the week has what I would call a "bait and switch". If you want to sit outdoors, you can have the Happy Drink prices, but you pay full price for the appetizers? Not the greatest policy for week days when things are slow."

  • "If you are looking for a very good Mexican restaurant in a great Santa Barbara location where the environment is hip and the staff very friendly - then this is the place!"

  • "Beverage service in dining area took quite a while. 2 beers took 15 minutes. Fajitas were ok, but swimming in oil.... Not much here if trying to eat healthy. Happy hour pricing is good if looking for that."

  • "Love the ambiance and the food we ordered. The waiter was very nice and attentive. The drinks we had during happy our were simply okay however had it not been happy hour pricing I would not have felt value in that purchase. I didn't particularly like the seasoning on the chips but the salsa was very good. Overall our family of four enjoyed our time at Sandbar and enjoyed the food. we would definitely return and recommend."

  • "I celebrated my 30th birthday at Sandbar and I really enjoyed the dinner. We were a 14 people group and we had a big table just for us. Food and drinks were delightful. Plus, the restaurant has live music on Wednesday to juice up your party!"

  • "It was a very good experience, friendly and the place felt like being in your back yard. Would defenetly eat there again. Not expensive good food."

  • "Six of us came for my birthday, and I was way impressed. My tests when I'm at a Mexican restaurant the 1st time are margaritas, chile rellenos & the flan--all of which were excellent at Sandbar. The margarinta was big & flavorful, as was the chile stuffed with light Mexican cheeses. It was lightly battered (instead of heavily coated) with an almost tempura-like crispiness. The creamy-style flan was warm with an amazing caramel sauce & chip (and a lighted candle!). My sister's test is the beef taco, which she mentioned was the best she's ever had, even in Mexico. My daughter's BBQ chicken ensalada was gone in minutes. The service was very attentive. Mgmt will comp you a shot or desert for your birthday, which made my day and my festivities!"

  • "I was very pleased with the reservation. Sandbar was able to accommodate my seating request. The only thing that I did not like was that they wanted us to wait for all of our party to arrive before seating us. The food is much better. They changed the menu which was a great idea."

  • "The overall impression of the restaurant was good. We had a good time even if the service was kind of poor. We had to wait for a long while to order drinks and when we did we did not get all of them. we did not let that affect our night out but it was a bit annoying. Great food and the atmosphere there are great too!"

  • "Made a last minute online reservation an hr. or so before arriving and we were seated immediately. We loved the food and outdoor dining that drew us there in the first place. Great menu selection and two for one beers too. We would definitely come back!"

  • "They didn't know about my reservation that I booked through opentable when I got there - frustrating. Good food, though!"

  • "We sat outdoors, overlying a pleasant streetscape in downtown Santa Barbara. The tables had oilcloth and the menus were worn. However, the food was excellent. I had the seafood enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. Other entrees at our table were fish tacos and a beef burrito. The margaritas were excellent as well."

  • "The food and service was very good. A very nice night with lots of activity. We will definately return on our next visit."

  • "I love sandbar, I have been coming here for years for brunch, happy hour, and late night drinks. I took my family for after graduation brunch and while the food was great the service was really astounding. Practically all the dishes were cold and it took several attempts to get drinks and orders, she even took a long time picking up the check."
    Dined on 6/17/2012
  • "Great location and food! Service was accomodating...we were not prepared for how cold it would be and sat outside. They moved heaters closer to us so we would be warmer! The BBQ Ranch salad was amazing!"
    Dined on 5/18/2012
  • "Very Loud, rambunctious bar-scene with many TV's playing sports games. Have eaten there twice and the food is nothing more than barely average Mexi-Cali cuisine."
    Dined on 4/19/2012
  • "The LED-candle lighting, comfortable couch/booths, and stone walls made for a very upscale and chic (and still very affordable for a group of college students) ambiance. The enchiladas verdes and tacos were amazing! The margaritas were a little weak, but tasted good. A few downers: it was very hard to get the waitress's attention and they didn't let us bring our backpacks in - not to the bar area, that would be understandable, but to the outside restaurant area... at 7pm... about 10ft. from the entrance (we're in college!) Also, they didn't have a birthday... cupcake, brownie, cake, flan, margarita, nothing! Overall, it was a good experience. 2 for 1 margaritas at happy hour are totally worth it!"

  • "We had an unusual Christmas meal that was exciting and great fun. The service was informative and friendly and the margarittas were fantastic. If you are visiting Santa Barbara, the Sandbar is worth a visit in atown where you are spoilt for choice."
    Dined on 12/25/2011
  • "We found the food to be no better than the average Mexican chain restaurant with little flair and house margaritas that had a teaspoon of liquor. Nice dining outdoors, but why bother?"
    Dined on 12/1/2011
  • "Pretty solid food, good prices on drink & appetizers during happy hour."

  • "At the busy end of State Street, Santa Barbara, Sandbar is a very energetic restaurant offering a typical Mexican menu. The food was good, service was a bit slow but the atmosphere of the restaurant made the experience enjoyable."

  • "Took good care of us for our bachelorette party. Offered a free shot for the bride to be. The margaritas were average, nothing special. Food was good though & cool atmosphere. We were squished at a table in the back, which ended up being ok. It was a little disappointing though when the special events coordinator asked us how things were, we voiced our opinion about the table size (or lack thereof), and she just said, "Ya, you do look pretty tight in there"."
