SanctuariaVery good for discerning palateI've had tapas before, but never that good. They obviously take pride in their food, as everything was small portions yet fresh, intricately spiced, immaculately presented, and delicious. Sometimes our waiter brought out our food, sometimes a chef. The decor reminds me of New Orleans, yet many of the decorations reflect Spanish heritage, as does the food. We're in our thirties, and it seemed to me we were the "old" couple there, so qutie a hipster joint.
The waiter was charming and helpful in our food selection. He seemed to know the menu inside and out, which is important to any fine dining establishment. No standard fare here. We had 6 different dishes. They were all delicious and reasonably priced. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Our waiter was great. He paid the appropirate amount of attention to us. Not overly attentive but readily available. The atmosphere was fun and romantic. The decor was kind of Hatian/Voodooesque and we enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it was extremely loud. I think that if my husband and I had been seated at a more intimant table, we would have been able to have a conversation. It made for an awkward special occasion dinner. That is the ONLY negative aspect and one that is an easy fix. Other than that, it was a great experience. I especially enjoyed the sweet plantains and mozzarella cheese. We also tried the chicken sliders, shrimp, and stuffed peppers. All were just average. Almost Manhattan in relation to proximity of other tables but just enough distance that we Midwesterners were not feeling cramped by our neighbors.
