  • "Went for our fourth anniversary the other night to San Remo in Mckenzie Towne on a casual recommendation by a friend who heard it was a nice place. Word of mouth is indeed true about this place. Nice warm atmosphere, with that Italian restaurant vibe of laughter and patrons chatting. I ordered the special, Blue Marlin - while my fiancé ordered the spaghetti bolognese. We ordered the poutine gnocchi as a starter. The poutine was anything but poutine, but equally delicious. A mound of potatoe dumplings with some red wine sauce, and greens. Delicious - a 5 star appy anywhere. Both main dishes were cooked to perfection! Nice to dine at an establishment who hand makes their sauces and meatballs! A+ Restaurant!!! Great place, great service."

  • "Been to this restaurant off and on for a few years. It's good, but nothing to write home about. Pizza's are appetizing as they are made in a pizza oven, the atmosphere is nice and the service is good. The daily dining special is a nice option. As for the restaurant menu, there is not a large variety of pasta dishes and not much in terms of seafood ie, prawns, shrimp, scallops, clams. What really surprised me was when asked if we wanted freshly ground pepper and parmeson cheese, the waitress brought over a shaker with dry, artificial, no flavor, Kraft, buy at the grocery store packaged cheese. Don't most good Italian restaurants give you freshly shaved parmeson cheese with your meal?"

  • "Great good, great atmosphere, feels like a downtown restaurant in your neighbourhood. Great deals during the week. Good wine list."

  • "We ate at San Remo last year on my husband's birthday and he asked to go again this year. 4 adult, two sons, who have good appetites and are as selective as I am about food and service. We shared an appetizer, that was delicious, Shrimp dish?) and the waitress recommended that we dip the bread in the sauce. She was right it was yummy. 3 had pasta and 1 boys had pizza. All were great, portions were generous. I would have liked to know that it was $10 pasta night. While it was probably the most reasonable birthday dinner we have ever had, I would have liked to have the regular menu to choose from. This is what brought us back. We mentioned that it was a birthday celebration and it would have been a nice touch if that had been acknowledged"

  • "Made reservation nine days in advance for dinner. Arrived on time for reservation. Was not seated in the dining room, but was put in lounge under air conditioning outlet. Froze and meal was cooled off by a/c draft. Asked to have air mover turned down several times. Each time the air mover was turned down, someone turned it up again. Really spoiled the evening."

  • "I wasn't overly impressed with the ambience of the restaurant, the food was average at best considering the price as well as the modest portions. Service was good but at times too much, server was at our table every 2 minutes until we let her know we were fine. The overall experience was average and I doubt I will return."

  • "We had a very nice evening, we had a great waitress, very knowledgeable young lady The lamb you could die for. Thank you"

  • "We found the service excellent and the food to be just alright. We both had the Valentines Day Striploin Special. While the presentation was wonderful, the salad lacked flavour. The Striploin looked better than it tasted, relying heavily on the chipotle risotto it was smothered in for taste. By Alberta standards, not a very good steak. In contrast, the torte we had for dessert was delicious."

  • "My wife and I dined At San Remo for Valentines Day. The service was excellent we were taken to our table right away when we arrived a quiet table for 2 it was perfect. They offered a Valentine menu, but we opted for the regular menu, we started with the mushrooms very tasty but a little disappointing I was expecting whole button mushrooms. My wife ordered the duck it was excellent done to perfection. I ordered the lamb medium rare it was tender and cooked to perfection. Dessert was excellent don't remember the names. A very enjoyable evening."

  • "Nice restaurant with a good ambience. Food was bit pricey but its worth the price."

  • "I wasn't aware that the restaurant had a kind of sports bar on one side and dining area on the other. Having booked through Open Table for Valentine's dinner, I would have expected that the restaurant/Open Table would have given us a table on the dining side. Fortunately, the ambience on the sports side wasn't loud and raucous as most people there seemed to be there for the same reason we were. I checked off YES to the recommendation question, but with a service and ambience caveat. Service failures included an overworked and underwhelming greeting agent at the door. Lack of attention to detail - not removing wine glasses from the table for those not drinking wine, confusion on delivery of services, uninterested waitress etc. etc."

  • "Whether you are in the mood for take out pizza or a romantic sit down dinner this is the place to go. We really haven't found a better restaurant in south calgary. The chef menu is always fabulous! On valentines we had the best meal either my husband or I have had in years!! Highly recommended!"

  • "The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and one thing we both loved was that the tables aren't all crunched together, they are roomy and feel romantic."

  • "it was very bright, felt like you were on display. Our server was great. First we were brought the complimentary bread, this came with hummus. The hummus was ground chick peas in a bowl with about an inch of lemon juice (gross). My wife ordered the valentine special and I ordered the duck. Her special was beef tenderloin. they were out of tenderloin and would substitute with strip sirloin, what out of the special. Long story short both of the meals had the same microwaved crust over the meat. They both had an overpowering mesquite smoke flavor. The risotto was a mesquite mush. Nether of us could finish our meals. Our server was so nice though she took the meals off the bill. It was a very sad meal for such a big occasion."

  • "While the food was very good (all in our party agreed) I do have to mention that the service could have been better. I will grant that it was a very busy night from the time we arrived at 7:30 until about 9pm. It was not all our waitress either although she could have been a little more on the ball but she was run off her feet (understaffed maybe??). our drinks were not topped up and appetizer plates were not cleared away until I asked her to get someone to do so. We did not order dinner until 8:30 after our appetizers were done & then it was a good 30-35 minutes before the main course arrived."

  • "This was not our first visit, nor will it be our last. This lovely Italian restaurant has a wonderful wine list and a very satisfying menu. We have visited this establishment approximately six times and have never been disappointed with the service. The quality of the food is, in my opinion, exceptional. There is no question that we will be back; and it is my recommendation for those wanting to check this gem out to go on a Sunday or Monday."

  • "Carbonara is a basic Italian dish. When two key ingredients were left out (parmesan and eggs), it was no longer carbonara. Added cream, well maybe it became an Al Fredo. What were peas doing in there? Italian restaurant? I don't think so. Very disappointing. Gave the same feedback in the moment and got no response. That's like a Canadian restaurant in Rome serving up corn syrup and calling it Maple syrup"

  • "I was a patron of the owner Jenna when she started her first restaurant in a Oakridge. I was disappointed that she was not there this particular evening. Much larger than Oakridge but just as nice. The food was good, though I prefer my spaghetti not cut up for me which I saw all of our dishes were. The servers were excellent when they could get to us or we called them over. I understand that they were short staffed ( is this normal?) and they also had a party of 18 there. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves."

  • "Best gnocchi my wife and I have had. Chef will cook many variations of anything on the menu if requested. We have been going for 4 years and never disappointed. Happy to have a quality restaurant close to home. Kid menu is also appreciated and he loves the spaghetti and meatball. Caesar salad could use more dressing but overall great"

  • "My obsession with the Gnochi Poutine continues! It's still amazing and original. The service was also great, with a server who was fast and very helpful and who seemed genuinely interested in our concerns (my wife doesn't like onions) as well as answering our questions about how the GNOCHI POUTINE IS SO DARN GOOD!!! (hint: truffle oil.) Always a pleasure at San Remo."

  • "I don't know why I bothered going back here but I wont make that mistake again! The best thing about this place is the wine! My friend & I inquired about the salad if it was appetizer size or entree side, our waitress assured us it was entree size. First off she seemed offended that we were just ordering salad & when the salad did come it was on a side plate, maybe 6x5 inches and the whole piece of chicken uncut sat on the side. The salad wasn't even that great, my friends was drowned in salad dressing, mine hardly had any. We then asked for fresh sliced peppers for our chickpea dip that came with the bread and she brought us soggy jarred marinated peppers. When we got our bill we were charged $17 for each of those salads & left hungry"

  • "We love having a restaurant of this calibar so close to home. We frequent this restaurant and enjoy the weekly specials. The staff is friendly and whenever (seldom) we have encountered a problem with anything it is attended to immediately and to our satisfaction. We recommend this restaurant to all our friends."

  • "Reasonably priced pasta night - only $10 each dish. Nice place to take the family for Sunday Dinner. Lots of choices, and all delicious. Only thing missing from this restaurant is a Host or Hostess "personality... seems wait staff are running the place. Italian restaurant style, calls for someone to "host" - and that is what is missing from this lovely restaurant. Would make the experience more accommodating.. and true to the Italian Restaurant Tradition. Although they all do make an effort to cover this position, it is missing and the "Warmth" of the Italian restaurant... becomes just another Bistro or restaurant. You should hire someone to cover this position... it would make a huge difference. And the bar seems vacant and empty."

  • "Waited 40 minutes for our reservation. Even though it was made online a week earlier. Restaurant was empty but there were later reservation coming in so we had to wait because they gave our table away to walk ins. Owner didn't even come out to talk to us!,,,Food was good but again service was very very slow. We waited 50 minutes for three deserts. Won't hope back"

  • "Our server was great! She was very patient as we lingered over wine and took forever to order. She did not rush us, yet checked on us often enough that we felt attended to. She was very accommodating to my friends menu request as well. For me the food was just okay though... We shared the baked feta appetizer it had a nice taste and comes with a few pieces of bread. This is a hard cheese though and is not spreadable. My meal was a pasta dish that was good, but not great. The atmosphere is good, the location convenient, but not a meal that stands out....this time. I'd still go back because the service was so good...and I'll just try something different."

  • "We booked a table for the restaurant and when we arrived they gave our table away so we had to sit in the bar. It was 20 below outside and we had cold air blowing on us. We asked to have it turned down but that did not happen so when we tried to move they would not let us so we left dissapointed. Been here many times but will never return."

  • "My 2 year old grand daughter and Wife both hate to dine out so this was a treat for them to be with me, usually just business associate's are with me. I got the first sitting so as to have a early time for the grand daughter and was pleasantly surprised to see another young girl with her grandmother there. I think that made them both comfortable. Special attention by the waitress to give the grand daughter a small bowl of what she wanted with no fuss kept the whole evening pleasant. All food and requests were met with a quick accurate response and pleasant attitude. The evening was a success and upon leaving I noticed a beautiful bar area also that I will be sure to return and experience also."

  • "We were staying at the Deerfoot Inn and wanted to get to a restaurant outside the hotel. This was only a short drive away and was well worth it. The server, although new, was very good at finding out the information we needed on food prep etc. I wasn't as fond of the bruscetta as the tomatoes came on the side and it lacked a bit of flavour. That said, everything else was fabulous. We split the ceasar and the beet/goat cheese salad and I wished I had the beet salad to myself. Soooo good. Then we split a pear, pine nut and gorgonzola pizza which was also excellent! I would definitely go back next time I am in town. The prices were reasonable, they had good beer choices and the feel is much more upscale than just a neighborhood restaurant."
