We were informed by the waiter that this was not available on Saturday night. We probably would not have booked as it was quite pricey, especially with the portion size. I also did not care for the wine menu being paperless; however, the sommelier was helpful."

The MOST difficult is to maintain the standards of cuisine and hospitality over time.Tony May set the standard for fine Italian dining in NYC decades ago. His charming daughter Marisa May carries on the tradition ably assisted by veteren John Fanning. But enough about gracious living, let's get to the roasted goat. I know of no greater public thrill than to eat the perfectly succulent capretto with my fingers. Starters: a perfect salad dressed with olive oil from Italy's Alpine lakes or salumi and cheese or shrimp with beans. Why resist sweetbreads with turnips, culatello with burrata? Every pasta and risotto has its pleasure. Chitarra has my heart."

  • "I took my girl out for our 1 year anniversary and I couldn't have been more pleased. The service, ambiance, vibe, food, desert and staff were all incredible!! The drinks, food and desert were all bar none the best Italian food I've ever eaten! I will definitely be back again. After dinner we were told to check out 230 fifth rooftop lounge/bar by the owners and that was an incredible time as well!"

  • "I have wanted to eat at SD26 for quite some time now. The only reason I would return to this restaurant is for their dish: "Uovo” in Raviolo. This was so good and worth it, but that was it. The service was so terrible. Our table was not ready by the time our reservation was up. We had to ask several other waiters for service. At several points during dinner, I thought that our waiter forgot about us and I almost called the manager over to complaint. The braised beef cheeks needed salt. It was okay. But only go to this restaurant for the Uovo."

The selections were more extensive than other restaurant week offerings, and we felt the chef really made an effort -Both the fish and roasted goat menu items were superb...and the desserts were exceptionally good. The restaurant was packed... so conversation was difficult - but otherwise a nice experience."

  • "We had lunch at SD26 during restaurant week and had a most enjoyable experience. The restaurant has a nice, trendy feel and the service was wonderful. The food, I had the ravioli and scallops and my husband had the pasta and veal, actually tasted like the food we ordered. The sauces/accompaniments enhanced rather than overpowered the veal and scallops. They were generous with the bread without having to ask. The desserts were tasty and beautifully presented. My only criticism is that the wine list is on the expensive side. Perhaps they are catering to wine connoisseurs, but I would have appreciated an affordable glass of wine with lunch. We would happily revisit this restaurant and recommend it to friends."

  • "It took 20 minutes before the waiter came to our table, only to tell us that he would be back in "10 seconds" and then return 10 minutes later. Our plates were cleared quickly but we waited for more than 20 minutes between each course. In fact the waiter acknowledged the terrible service as we were waiting for our next course by stating "your food is coming straight from Italy. That's why it's taking so long. It'll be here in 10 seconds." It took about another 10 minutes for our food to arrive. All of this occurring while the table of apparent regulars next to us, seated more than 30 minutes after us, received all of their courses before us. The food was delicious and if the service had been acceptable maybe I would have become a regular."

  • "If they were, staff wouldn’t be stressed: service and food would improve. I suspect SD26 with a pedigree is on its last legs. What was that nebulous and tasteless, green puree garnish that neither my foodie companion nor I could identify? Not even salt improved the dishes or the over sauced pasta. Restaurant Week doesn’t account for ill conceived and prepared food. Four nearby diners eventually requested their lunches to go after an indeterminate time. I had hoped for better but the third time wasn’t the charm."

  • "I don't know how it's humanly possible to take so long to come pour water, take your order, bring out drinks, etc. We ordered wine upon sitting down and it didn't arrive at the table until well after the entrees came and I had to pull the waiter aside to ask what the deal was - then he didnt remember our wine order and I had to find the selection in their iPad app again. The food is fantastic though but every single time the thought of their food draws me in, I immediately realize how terrible an experience it is based on the service. I took clients recently and everything took so long that their food arrived 5 minutes before they need to run out for a meeting so they had to box everything up and leave. Please hire some competent waiters."

  • "I went with a friend for lunch during restaurant week. Everything about the experience was great. We sat in a nice booth, our waiter was attentive as was the whole staff. Water refills were prompt. The bread was fresh and delicious. We both had the Uovo ravioli to start. Heavenly! Then the sea scallops with cauliflower..delicious! My friend had the panna cotta, and I had a hazelnut semifreddo. Everything was great. I will definitely be back."

  • "We were here with a group of five for a 7 PM reservation. Upstairs was very quiet until several large tables were sat about 8 PM and the noise level became so very loud that we needed to yell to each other. I like an energetic atmosphere, but this was annoying. Nothing in the room to absorb noise. The burrata was delicious as was the oovo in ravioli, the chittara pasta, beef cheeks and tuna carpaccio. The striped bass was tasteless and not enjoyable. Wine list is HUGE!!! Desserts were wonderful! Service was very good, until we got our coffee and desserts when we had to wave down someone (which I hate!!) for more coffee and our check. All in all, the food was very good, service good. Would definitely come back and try again."

  • "Food was great, especially the raviolo. My friend's butter poached halibut was amazing too. Everything else was good, but not as fantastic. Perfect for Winter Restaurant Week! Service was really good most of the time. I did wish they would come fill our water glasses more frequently. The only thing that stuck out as a bigger point of improvement was when they handed us the check without us asking for it. I understand that it was Winter Restaurant Week and that we were there during peak dinner hours, but my friend and I hadn't taken that long with anything at all. We actually eat pretty quickly, and we only talked a little more during dessert. So just beware that if you are sitting there with a date, you might feel rushed out."

  • "Had dinner here the other night with my wife and parents at 5:30, pre-theater. My OpenTable reservation had noted we needed to leave for an event, but the staff did not seem to be aware of that. Despite restaurant not being full, we had a hard time getting the waitstaff's attention. The waiter didn't come around to fill our water glasses, and we had to flag him down to order dessert and get the check so we could leave on time. I'd note that this contrasts with my wife's visit a while back, at which she had excellent service."

  • "We ate here during Restaurant Week and while many restaurants almost grudgingly put together a modest menu with maybe three selections, SD26 had Twelve, Plus Four Desserts. It's Three courses, so you choose Two (any two), plus one dessert. We had the "Fettuccine with Wild Boar Ragu'", "Butter-Poached Hallibut", "Boneless Rabbit with Savoy Cabbage & Chestnuts", and the "Slow Roasted Baby Goat (on the bone) with Rosemary Roasted Potatoes & Artichokes" I don't want to say Everything was Perfect, but IT WAS ! Tender, Delicious, Plentiful, Expertly Prepared, and other than the waiter disappearing when we wanted the check, an absolutely Perfect Experience. We'll be back.."

  • "We went on the Monday before Ash Wednesday and they were celebrating Carnivale (to our surprise because there was no advance warning when we made the reservation). They had hired these "performers" to beat drums, play flutes, dance around, and generally be a great annoyance to all of the customers. On an average night, this restaurant is probably too loud; on this night, it was deafening. Add to that, the fact that there is not a single two-top in the place and they place you at tables with diners who are already seated and I would not recommend that anyone eat here if they are going on a date or want to have a private business conversation. Generally, it was very disappointing."

  • "I went here with a friend for Restaurant Week. It felt as if our server was annoyed at us just for being there for said special. We both ordered (expensive - $14) cocktails and then decided to share our dishes so we could try more things. The whole point of RW is supposed to be to win over repeat guests. They did not do this. The food was delicious, but I wouldn't have been pleased with it had I paid the full menu price because it wasn't particularly exceptional. Despite saying that we wanted to share a few times, each time they brought a course, we practically had to beg for share plates and were greeted with annoyed looks each time we did."

  • "My friend and I were sat in a corner for 2 people behind a pillar. We thought it wasn't so great but in the end the pillar blocked most of the noise out so we had a good 2hour dinner catching up and it was great. Service was marvelous and food even more outstanding! We saw many table were big parties and they seemed to have fun as well so I guess it would be a nice place to come to celebrate a special occasion. The ambiance was very modern fancy and loved it."
