SD26 RestaurantAwesomeChef Matteo is incredible. From appetizers through dessert, plus the fantastic wine accompaniment, this is the best Italian gourmet meal you'll have the privilege of eating outside Italy. In addition to the outstanding food, the staff is attentive, professional and friendly. I cant remember ever giving such rave reviews to a restaurant. Pay NO attention to ANY complaints from Yelpjerks or restaurant critics who've never cooked a serious meal. SD26 is a top dining experience.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu and wine list areThe menu and wine list are a bit overwhelming at first but order the cured meats and cheese as an appetizer and go from there. The portions are on the small side so don't hesitate to try several things and share if you can.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVisit to SD26The food was very good and a real New York treat if one is from out of town. The waiter was great & professional. However, the noise level was over powering. We could not hear each other very well.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVera good! This a Vera good restaurant. Good wine list, good food and honest price. I recomend this restaurant for a special night in NY!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA really enjoyable lunchFriday lunch at SD26 met or exceeded our expectations. Their "uovo" raviolo first course, one of their specialities, merited special mention. The sea bass was excellent. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. The extensive wine list is presented on an ipad. That makes changing and updating rather easy. The restaurant is across 26th Street from the attractive Madison Square Park. We had dined several times over the past 20 years at the San Domenico Restaurant when it was located on Central Park South near Columbus Circle. SD26 is a worthy successor.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely unique Italian Experience!Magical! Marisa, Tony, Stefano and Matteo always make every single evening a special one at SD26! My international friends are welcome and are very pleased to find exquisite Italian food in NY as it feels when touring Italy.
Thanks to all, just simply wonderful!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDid not live up to Forbes'Did not live up to Forbes' three star rating. Wine list was electronic and very confusing and frustrating to use. Overall a reasonably pleasant experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMEngagement Dinner 4/13/13They hosted an engagement party for me and it turned out better than I could have imagined! The staff was courteous, the food magnificent, and the ambiance was priceless. I had approx. 21 guests and the staff was effective at making sure everyone's food was out at the same time, hot and flavorful. You would have thought it was a seating for two versus 22. I was travelling from Atlanta and had never visited the restaurant, but rest assured I will be back the next time I'm in New York! I would highly recommend SD26 for your next corporate or social event without hesitation.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food. Amazing service.Amazing food. Amazing service. Pricy, yes, but 100% worth it.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was incredible...hadFood was incredible...had the Tuna duo...the Gnocchi with Chicken Livers was luscious and I finished wih th Roast Baby Goat..Incredibleflavor. The very high ceiling is refreshing.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrated Easter with 3 othersCelebrated Easter with 3 others and had a great experience from the front bar having cocktails to the dining room having a very delicious meal.
Nancy our waitress, was beyond professional!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a pleasure to dineIt was a pleasure to dine at SD 26 on a quiet evening, and having a table for two in a cozy booth that would normally accommodated four. The Salumeria starters are exceptional, and you wonder how such an everyday item can be so exceptionally good. Parmigiano to accompany it was aged to perfection. The main course squab was excellent, robed in a rich but subtle dark sauce flavored with olives and sage. The restaurant's description, Modern Italian cuisine, is borne out in the innovative use of materials to bring their dishes above the traditional level of Italian fare. Above all, the sleek and understated but pretty interior makes this restaurant special, as it celebrates a cuisine that remains accesesible and in some ways "everyday."3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBronzino for2 ohMy- 130$!!!!!I always love coming here. The food is superb and the staff is helpful.
My only complaint is it is a little overpriced.
Bronzino - an easily acquired fish- that is not that expensive- was 65$ pp
Crazy!
Otherwise a nice and comfortable space/ open kitchen/ great wines.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen the service rises- an A+Beautiful and delicious modern Italian food. This is not a red sauce joint. Airy dining room is hidden behind a modern bar. There are private alcoves in addition. The was wonderful we enjoyed for a prix fix special occasion lunch perfectly prepared branzino with a tangy sweet and sour eggplant compote. A Tuna and Bass Carpaccio appetizer was complemented with shaved fennel and pickled shallots, and the tiramisu was smooth and light and balanced. Unlike the service. I've been here twice and although the Maitre D' is warm and welcoming, the waiters and bus boys seemed not as comfortable in their roles. We waited to order and waited for the check despite the fact that our servers were not busy and they just left us feeling blah.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at SD-26 is always so GREAT!Dining at SD-26 is always a great experience. Comfortably, without any pretense, you have the BEST of all worlds. Service, Food, Ambiance. All that matters! The best salume and cheeses, grilled octopus, the famous 'egg' ravioli....the pastas: home-made/hand-made, with gentle or POW sauces (enough, but not too wet, authentic Italian-style). The fish, a whole Branzino baked in salt or the delicious kind-of sweet scallops, with the taste of the waters they came from. Hearty, you'd like hearty but not heavy? OMG, the pork cheeks over farro. NO one in your whole family ever even KNEW to cook like this. Marisa May and Tony May, the very warmest, welcoming hosts in the world & Chef Matteo, the young Winner chef of the Century. Go, Enjoy...3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner is always a WIN at SD-26SD-26 is just wonderfully, casually TERRIFIC. Everything about it the restaurant is authentic and sincere from the first welcome to the final goodbye as if you were a family member. The food from Chef Matteo Bergamini has a light touch but is very gutsy and tasty. The fun of choosing from all sorts of sliced salumi and cheese from several regions of Italy from the special little bar is great. The dishes, from Barolo braised beef cheeks to just a simple grilled Branzino, after any incredible pasta on the menu that night coming out of Matteo's kitchen are simply perfection. Running out of space here.. just know you are in good hands, there's a great menu, the wines are terrific, with any dishes you choose, the evening will be a Win!2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful RestaurantWe had a wonderful Restaurant Week dinner. It was one of the best menus we have seen. There was also a problem that the waiter refilled our glasses with someone else's wine (and not nearly as good a wine as we ordered). There was no hesitation and then the waiter came back with a new bottle of our wine. Bravo.2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful lunch during RestaurantWonderful lunch during Restaurant Week. Waiter's suggestions were right on target and Uovo appetizer is a must. Will be returning.1/17/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed a ChristmasReally enjoyed a Christmas Eve meal with the family - and the pasta with clam sauce was really smokey and delicious, very unusual!12/24/2012 12:00:00 AM
