A word from Sam's
Sam"s is not about reinventing the wheel. It's more about finding four wheels that we wanted to drive around the Boston Waterfront. The local bounty of New England's farms and artisans; the simplicity of an American Diner; the endless and timeless appeal of the French Bistro menu; and the warmth and welcoming spirit of our home.

Located above Louis Boston on Fan Pier, Sam's is a 45 seat restaurant that offers stunning views of the Boston skyline and waterfront.

We are conveniently located next to the ICA and Boston Courthouse, and a short walk to the Boston Convention Center, World Trade Center, and Bank of America Pavilion.

During the warmer months, seating is available on our 80 seat patio. Reservations are only offered for the inside dining room, but please feel free to call about our wait times for outdoor seating.

A hidden gem right, smack on Boston's waterfront. This restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the stand alone Louis' clothing store. It is a neat looking, little bit of a throw-back/vintage, room. The room is small as are the tables (I couldn't imagine more than out 3 at the four-top we were eating at). It's a high rent district and the menu bears that out. The menu tries really hard, but the execution isn't as high end as the thought process. Everything was OK, nothing was bad but nothing was too impressive. However, the view is great and it is a nice place to take out-of-towners who will be impressed that you even know about it! That, itself, might be worth the price of admission!

A colleague and I had a great lunch at Sam's. The outdoor seating is fabulous with a view over Boston harbor yet not too windy. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Solid beer and wine selection (though no draft beer). Service was just right. They even loaned my friend sunglasses since he had forgotten to bring his!

Oysters and cocktails, together with a magnificent view of Boston Harbor. The cocktails are crafted and delicious - tequila and strawberry liqueur, for example. Island Creek Oysters served cold, and expertly shucked, still in their own juices with a zesty cocktail sauce. The food would have received a five if they hadn't been out of their only seafood entre - swordfish. The kitchen sent a nice bluefish pate as an apology, but with that harbor view, you just can't run out of seafood! Nevertheless, a repeat for me!

Our group regularly tries out new restaurants and Sam's at Louis on a clear blue, humidless summer day was a perfect choice. We opted to sit inside. Service was impeccable. Chilled beet soup with creme fraiche, fried oysters, an heirloom tomato and watermelon salad, and the greek salad with spicy lamb meatballs were equally flavorful. Two complaints: entrance is through a construction zone--surely a temporary constraint. And a request that a catfish po' boy be made with fried oysters was denied. Our charming waiter explained because the kitchen is small and food substitutions on the fly are difficult when busy. Understandable? I guess so. All in all, a fabulous dining experience. I would return and recommend.

Probably the best harbor views from Boston. Don't make a reservation (if the weather is nice), walk-in and put your name on the list for outdoor seating and wait (possibly a long time, was 45 minutes around sunset on an August Sunday evening). Food was great, service was great. Pricey, so probably not an anyday choice...

Stunning view over Boston harbor and the Boston skyline - big walls of glass means pretty much anywhere you sit you get a good view. Outdoor seating looked great, though we sat by the window indoors and were happy there. Food was quite good during brunch - a simple vegetable salad with some new potatoes was dressed with a good vinaigrette and topped with chopped egg. I accompanied it with a nice Vinho Verde. Well dressed brunchers filled the place, the type that would shop at Louis, the upscale clothing store downstairs. Very little street parking on a Sunday, valet was $10, nearby lots $16 or $25. Lots of construction going on nearby in the Seaport area but was a nice walk afterwards along the harbor.

The food was fine. Not great; just fine. But the view made up for the lack of culinary "wow." We arrived early and were able to grab a table on the patio, front-and-center. Amazing view, watching boats and planes alike. Great park down below us allowed kids at next table to run around a bit. Our server was splendid. One caveat: There is construction right now on the buildings adjacent to the Fan Pier and Sam's restaurant. If you are "noise sensitive," you should call the restaurant and check to see if they know if the contractor will be working late. We were there until 10 PM, and the guys were still working on the building next door! It was very loud at times, though no fault of the restaurant.

Sams was good. The food was tasty. The service was a bit spotty. When ordering our server gave me the all too often received follow up when asked how do you want your burger cooked...medium rare...oh we only cook it well done...that being said she did explain it was a function of the burgers being thin, which, when it came out, despite being not pink, was plenty juicy and tasty. My problem is with the question, not the burger itself, the burger was good

Came here with a few friends last Sunday. We sat outside and the view is hard to beat - right on the water. Attentive wait staff. Two of us ordered the "Gypsy Eggs" and enjoyed it. One of us ordered the "Pig in a Blanket" - sausage with ricotta pancake. The price charged for that dish was less on the bill than on the menu, for some reason. I would've ordered that instead of the omelet, had I known. My omelet was pretty good, with goat cheese, tomatoes, and smoked potatoes all inside. But it also had a heap of potatoes on the side, which I felt was not very creative, given the omelet had potatoes inside. I asked for an English muffin instead of toast, but apparently that's a separate charge. Jeez. We also split the lemon poundcake. Meh.

My sister and niece were visiting Boston for the first time. Since the warm season is so beautiful and so short, we thought Sam's would be the best place to soak up the heat and eat a great meal with the view - after all, it's one of our favorites. As always, the meal and service were spectacular. The reason I will never again recommend this place to out of town guests was the poor communication on behalf of the management. You see, we reserved this place because we wanted a waterside dinner. I requested it on the reservation. No one called to tell me that would not be possible, and if I had known, we would have opted for another restaurant. The dinner experience we recommended and so badly wanted was ruined.

Sam's was good but I'm not sure why people rave over it. Boston is just staring to expand it's waterfront dining and this is one of the more afford-ably-priced places. It still felt stuff inside for some reason.... the deck looked nice but is very small. The wait for the deck was 90 minutes on a Wednesday evening in the summer. Unfortunately you cannot make reservations for outside seating, but our Open Table request for a window seat was accommodated which was great. I recommend getting the burger (which is huge) and beer to enjoy the view.

Was visiting Boston fir the first time and was one of my favorites of all the well-sought restaurants. Service was pleasant, welcoming and expedient. Food was executed expertly -- I had the corned beef hash which was braised, melt-in-your-mouth meat and potatoes. Finished with a lemon pound cake, but they also brought a creamy trifle compliments of the kitchen. It was an unexpected pleasant surprise. We will return to try dinner.

I ended up at Sam's twice last week, went also a few months ago. The first two times every bite was AMAZING: bread & butter, baked haloumi (steak for vegetarians ), beet soup, falafel, mushroom burger entrees, lemon sorbet. I've never managed to eat outside though and frankly that's usually why I'm trying to go. That and the good food. So last Thursday I struck out again on the outdoor table but inside was so crowded that my friend & I were shouting, straining to hear, and I had a headache by meal's end. And the baked haloumi was too salty this time and quinoa salad with grapefruit and Majorca almonds wasn't tasty at all, especially the citrus. But every thing we ordered to share came adorably plated or poured for two.
