Sam's on the WaterfrontWorth it for the abienceSam's is a reliable restaurant. Not great but good. Enough variety on the menu to satisfy but not bewilder. But when the weather turns warmer and they open up their dockside bar and deck it's a great place to go. The weather was perfect (which helps), the mussels and chopped salad were excellent, chicken was good not great. Service was competent and friendly (a rare combination). So - it is a tuck away place. The view is spectacular - right on the docks and you can wave to the boaters who will see you through the windows. The food is very good, and we've always had great wait staff. There's both indoor and dock side tables & waiting. They do have indoor and outdoor bars as well. A great place to go to get out of the main stream - but still stay upscale. We will revisit often.
An added benefit - there are several items on the menu that are gluten free. We can vouch for the restaurant steering completely clear of wheat on their selections.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet dinner with a viewThe inside of Sam's was too quiet for my taste on a Friday night, but I did enjoy the view of the marina. There was a band outside but no seating was available. Oh and there was food. I had a salmon and lacked flavor. There was a butter sauce on the plate, but I would have needed it on top of the fish or on the side to make it memorable. You definitely need to order sides because the entree came with two pieces of bok choy that were also bland in flavor minus the sections that caught a drizzle of sauce. My dinner date had short rib. They had good flavor, but were a little too fatty for me. Situated on the dock of a marina, it makes you feel like you're on vacation.The food was all good, but nothing spectacular. The cream of crab soup was really a cream soup base with a handful of lump crab meat tossed in after cooking. Tasty but not the classic cream of crab you would expect. The short ribs were delicious but still had all of the fat you normally see on an uncooked short rib - none had been trimmed off. The blueberry cobbler was a huge disappointment, tasted dry and not sweet at all - did the chef forget to add sugar? Bananas Foster was tasty but too much ice cream and not enough bananas. The outdoor dining area is small along the narrow dock - and overshadowed by the large yachts.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Sam's expectingWe went to Sam's expecting an up-scale and expensive restaurant and what we found was restaurant with a lovely environment and very reasonable, delicious food. We had the steak frites with the steak done perfectly, and a fabulous chocolate dessert. We found out that Sam's is not in the city proper (about 10 miles away), but decided to keep our dinner reservation, and are very glad that we did.
Sam's is Fabulous! Terrific food, a very accomodating and efficient waitstaff, and a lovely view of the marina. There was a live band at the outside (dockside) bar area, so some extra noise came with that, but not enough to disturb conversation, plus I think my son and his buddy enjoyed the band. Wait staff was professional and accommodating. I had to call to change reservation but still arrived later than scheduled. We were immediately seated and our apologies were graciously accepted. All found the food outstanding. Service also excellent. No music because it was a weekday. It was a fun evening. We had two of their higher-end sandwiches, the lobster roll and the Waygu burger. Both were delicious, as was the fried oyster appetizer.
