  • ". Great View, Great setting, Great service. Food was good but not exceptional. This is a great happy hour or Saturday/sunday afternoon lets get a drink and relax place."
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Food is overpriced. The appetizer was great and the dessert. The main course and salad were just OK. The service and scenic view are great. Not a value for the price. Lobster roll was full of celery. Everything is extra. House salad was $10."

  • "Delicious! So thrilled the new chef is there recreating his specialties."

  • "Sam's has been a consistently terrific restaurant in a great location Menu selections are varied and creative. Will continue enjoying in the future. The service is excellent while being relaxed and pleasant."

  • "Great ambiance. Food exceeded my expectations and service profession."

  • "It was one of the first nice days of spring, so the restaurant was quite busy both inside and outdoors. My family came to Sam's for a birthday celebration. All of us enjoyed our dinners: scallops, rockfish, oysters."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We are so happy Chef Wilder is back in our neighborhood! We had a mixed grill entree paired with a good-valued Cab- everything was excellent."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "Food was outstanding. Our server was very attentive. Was a bit noisy, but still made for a great atmosphere."

  • "My title summs it up. The wife and I went for my birthday and normal there are a few things that instantly make us leave and she was ready but only stayed bc it was my birthday. so as she stated, we will never go again"

  • "The Executive Chef needs to taste his own creations. Fried Oysters appetizer had no flavor (probably need to serve VA Chincoteaques (sp) instead of Bay variety), and the Venison Osso Bucco needed some spicing up. The Scallop dish was too sweet; probably due to the sweet potato pancake underneath the scallops. Bring back the fresh trout fillet onto the menu; that was a wonderful dish."

  • "We wanted to take advantage of Restaurant week in Annapolis to try a new place. After reading the mixed reviews online, we really didn't know what to expect. We selected a lunch time since it was a good 45 min drive from our home in another county. We were the first customers, seated immediately, and really enjoyed the lovely view. Service was very quick, efficient and helpful. The cream of crab soup was delicious. I selected one of the entrees from the restaurant week menu--mushroom and spinach crepes. They were piping hot and very tasty--there were only two but quite filling. My husband ordered an oyster po' boy. The fries that came with it were so light and crunchy. He said it was good but spoiled by New Orleans po' boys."

  • "The appetizers were great-especially the butternut squash soup. The entrees were outstanding. The desserts, however, were not up to their usual level--they were a little on the dry side with not enough sauce for the large serving size.. We would have preferred smaller portions of the base bread pudding and pear cobbler or more sauce."

  • "Sam's on the Waterfront is just that on the Water. It is beautiful, of course at night, all you see is the twinkling lights of the boats. The experience was great and the waiters were awesome until the end of the night. The food was wonderful till the dessert. My dessert, the creme brulee was less then a teaspoon and totally burnt, so I could not find a waiter till they brought us the bill. By then I was ready to leave. We went during Restaurant Week, so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it, but they rest of the food was so wonderful, I would be willing to try the place out again."

  • "Due to the snow and icy roads AND more snow coming later in the evening, my girlfriend did not wish to risk driving all the way from Howard County to the rather remote location... expecting the secondary roads to be very questionable. Thus, we had to cancel our reservation, which I did over the phone nearly 4 hours before our 9 PM table. I WAS INFORMED I WOULD BE CHARGED $50 CANCELLATION FEE!!! Any business has to accept that weather will at times affect their customers ability to travel to their location, and when the weather impacts their business, THEY INCUR THE LOSSES!!! THIS place decides to instead GOUGE THEIR CUSTOMERS!!! Really? The owner is a millionaire, I am sure he can take the hit. Needless to say I will not be returning."

  • "It's in a perfect location, nice and quiet and could be romantic. The service is a bit more casual than you would expect. The cocktails are overpriced. There is not much variety in the menu and salads. My steak was wasn't cooked correctly the first time. I told a server that was passing by my steak was overcooked and asked if she could get our waitress. Rather than taking my steak back to fix it and then get the waitress, she left it there with me for another 5-7 minutes until our server came back to take my steak. The quality of the filet was nothing more than I could buy at Omaha steaks. The au gratin potatoes were dry and tasted like leftovers. The restaurant is quiet, the carpet is stained and dirty and cob webs were visible."

  • "I really enjoyed my dining experience at Sam's. Between the great service and amazing water views I would recommend to everyone."

  • "I chose this restaurant because there were so many gluten free options for my wife. I didn't realize that there was a set menu for Valentines but was incredibly pleased that half of each category on their menu for the night was GF. Every dish was amazing, the service was friendly and attentive and the view was fantastic. I'm not GF, but my wife is severely allergic and it was nice finding not just one or two things that were considered but the majority of the menu was an option. We will definitely be back."

  • "My husband and I went for Valentines Day. I made the reservation in advance and reviewed the menu. I was surprised to find a different and limited fixed menu with no room for flexibility. My ideal dinner was not to be had. The fixed menu was over priced for what we got at $75 per person. I would expect this or less at a finer restaurant. The servers are overly casual when you expect fine dining. I like the ambience but the food, price for a limited menu, and casual servers makes me not want to go there again."

  • "Noticed this restaurant needed some updates despite evening dining. The waterfront view a plus but the holiday menu was fine dining priced for a moderate meal. Make sure to check for limited menu when making reservations on holidays."

  • "Great place for special occasion. Staff very professional with extensive knowledge of wine listings. Roasted red pepper bisque with shrimp is amazing!! Would recommend to anyone and would definitely return!"

  • "Local, on the water spot. Chef has changed and this is a significant move up. Food was great and live music on the weekends is better that most. Always a challenge to insure you get the table you want. Some are right by the bar vice a window/water view. Summer opens up outdoor seating and boat to destination. Great for a lazy evening outside."

  • "Menu very old fashioned. Food mediocre at best. I felt like I was eating food that had been sat on a buffet for too long. In fact that might be the case; My reservation was at 9?"

  • "We're been to Sam's several times for dinner. Food was awesome as usual but the service left us a bit disappointed. We'll give them another chance however. We really do enjoy the restaurant, view, and the food."

  • "The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Pretty view in the summer I'm sure...nice cozy place. Good food"

  • "Maybe it's the winter blahs but Sam's just wasn't up to its usual stellar service. Our party of 4 had a wonderful table, same fabulous view, but inattentive service. We had to ask for drink refills and then had to wait way too long to get them. This Saturday night wasn't a super busy one and we were seated close to the bar so it should have been easy. On the other hand, the bananas flambe was New Orleans worthy."

  • "First time there and we needed an early dinner before going to the symphony. We were the only people there since it was 4:30 so can't judge."
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "Sam's used to be an Annapolis fine dining destination. Not any more. We had hoped the selection of the former Wild Orchid chef would improve matters. (Recently the food has been worse there than the worst of the chains.) The current lunch menu sounded okay, if rather conventional, so we gave it a try. Food took a long time to arrive and was mediocre to bad. Chowder had hardly any seafood, tasted more like beefy tomato soup. Shrimp tasted like ammonia - spoiled? Little, if any, caramelized onions and mustard greens in one dish. Mustard greens could have been mistaken for a bit of chopped parsley stirred into dish. Dessert was pleasant although not particularly special or unusual. Maybe the chef is not on duty at lunch-dinner might be better."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the live music, the romantic ambiance and excellent menu. However, the service was poor. My wife's appetizers were never brought to the table, and the server never even apologized. The other appetizers of fried oysters and calamari were over battered. You would hardly know there were oysters even there. The rockfish entree was no more than four ounces. The restaurant should be embarrassed. The crab cakes were average. Nothing to write home about. The scallop dish was decent. Overall a real disappointment."

  • "We found the service slow at first...too long to ask for a drink order, but ok after that. We were disappointed in the food. The wild boar and venison were both chewy and the venison & rabbit pot pie sauces thin and not very flavorful. The rack lamb portion was very small."
    Dined on 1/23/2014
  • "Met some former co-workers for brunch. the menu options were terrific, hard to choose just one. They also had a great option for refills on brunch drinks, but caution, their bloody marys are strong. Definitely a place to go to catch up with old friends."
    Dined on 1/12/2014
  • "enjoyed a nice dinner out without going far from home. haven't been to Happy Hour, but sounds like a good way to go."
    Dined on 1/9/2014
  • "Looked forward to experiencing the combined effort of new chef, the Wild Orchid's Wilder, and Sam's ambiance. Wilder's signature Butternut squash soup (served in deep bowl (stays warm) with abundant lump crab meat on top and in soup at WO) was served in shallow bowl (cools rapidly especially when placed on ice cold platter) with optional (for $2.50) small portion of cold crab meat on top only.. Looked fwd to menu's Venison Osso Buco but it was not the expected braised Venison shank; but tasted more like boiled shank. Rack of lamb was good but not plentiful. Prix fixe pricing is reasonable. Beefeater Up @ $9.25 is pricey. We'll give Sam's another try later before recommending it to a friend. We know they (Wilder and Sam's) can do better!"

  • "Great service - waiter was excellent. She tended to us well, but was never intrusive. The food. I got the Rockfish entree that came with a fried parmesan pizzette type thing. Delicious, but it should have included a side dish of veggies. Entree was was too small. My gent got the Pork Duo - it was delicious, but it was a small amount of food. The cream of crab soup was amazing. The dessert: we got the creme brulee - it was overcooked, still tasty, but I'd hoped it would be creamier. I live near this place and will be back - maybe to try brunch. Or just enjoy their happy hour and eat their cream of crab soup..."

  • "Wonderful meal, beautifully prepared. We had venison osso buco and the rack of lamb. Delicious. Molten flour less chocolate cake for dessert was a real treat."

  • "Over All it was just OK. Food just ok but the food presentation was better than it tasted. No mints given or non at front door. The waiter was terrible."

  • "We had a great time celebrating New Year's Eve. The food was very good, the service was great and the DJ was fun. We danced, had a champagne toast at midnight, and watched the Annapolis fireworks from our table at the window. Lovely!!"

  • "A little disappointed with the entrée. My husband and I ordered the Szechuan Black Pepper Crusted Filet Mignon, and found it a little gritty and tasting of rosemary. The shallot mustard sauce was salty, and there was little of it. The twice baked potato was very cheesy and runny. The jumbo asparagus were actually medium sized, and there were only two. My dessert, a flourless choc cake, was thimble sized, and my husband's choice of Grand Marnier Crème Brulee lacked any taste of Grand Marnier. We arrived at the first seating at 6:00 pm, along with a large crowd of others, and therefore service was slow to begin with. We had a good view of the waterfront, and enjoyed the fireworks at the end of our meal. A little skimpy on the portions."

  • "We've been celebrating the New Year with Andrew and the team at Sam's for a number of years - never a disappointment - great food, great service and an intimate, friendly atmosphere. The early seating on New Year's Eve was just right!"
