Diner Reviews
  • "Great place for dinner & lunch. Reasonable prices & outstading service - especially in the bar with John as the waiter!"

  • "We've been to Sam's before but many years ago, before they spiffed up the decor. It has a high-end feel--and high-end prices, but the food is good, and our waiter, at least, was very attentive. He absorbed our need to make an 8:00pm concert at least 15 minutes away and delivered our courses accordingly. Both my wife's vegetarian dish and my Gemelli with chicken and artichokes were served in generous portions."

  • "We had a very nice time at Sam's; food and drinks were quite enjoyable. Waitstaff and bartender attentive and friendly. A relaxed neighborhood place to eat and drink."

  • "This is my second time visiting Sam's. Servers are experienced and pros. I would recommend to anyone. Food is great and presented well."

  • "I visited Sam's during Restaurant Week and, while the full menu was offered, I opted for the special prix fix menu. The onion soup was, by far, the best I've ever had, the good-sized piece of striped bass was cooked perfectly, and the dessert biscotti were delicious. Glasses of wine were generously poured. The noise level was just enough to cover your conversations from the other diners, but not too loud where you couldn't hear your table mates. The waitress was fun, friendly and efficient. Food was served in a very timely fashion. This was my first visit, but will not be my last."

  • "Nice ambience with excellent food, plus special selection of matching wines. A courteous presentation of dinning experience by the restaurant."

  • "We don't often go out to a restaurant and I'm so glad we did! Sam's has justly earned their great reputation. Even though it was busy service was prompt and always courteous. The brunch menu offered a great variety. Both the butternut squash and french onion soups were really tasty. The P.E.I. mussels were great, and while I would have preferred them over the more traditional pasta, the accompanying steak frites were yummy. My son loved his pancakes and my husband his Reuben which was nice and thick. We were too full for dessert...always a good sign. Sam's of Gedney has not seen the last of us!"

  • "Ate in a party of six on a Saturday night. Place was full & jumping. Service was good, but waiter was so busy working other tables that we didn't see him all that often. Food was good, but definitely NOT plentiful ... especially for the prices being asked. Portions were small and side veggies and the like were even smaller. Prime rib dinner that was ordered Medium Rare by one in our party was BARELY pink (& definitely NOT red). Took FOREVER for our waiter to check in on us so that we could send it back, though he was very apologetic AND a medium rare piece was brought to our table in mere minutes."

  • "We chose Sam's of Gedney Way because of its location, away from the hubbub of downtown White Plains on a weekend night and it far exceeded our expectations. Our party of four ordered from the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week menu which offered lots of great choices, and our attentive waiter even told us about some extra selections that were not on the HVRW menu but which were included. My salmon dish was outstanding, and I enjoyed the leftovers the next day for lunch. Very flavorful, a creative combination of tastes. The others in my party also enjoyed their selections, and we all agreed that the espresso gelato for dessert was outstanding."

  • "Service was very good and friendly. Our daughter ordered the crab cakes and they were excellent. My swordfish was a bit dry but good as well. The wine selection was a little weak, esp re single glass selections. Will be happy to return."

  • "Always great food and great service. Can always count on having to make a tough choice between several menu options"

  • "So there were 8 of us for brunch. Service was outstanding! We loved the little room they gave us. The lattes were awesome. The food was okay. Everyone that got the steak and eggs had cold eggs and potatoes. Steak was not cooked correctly for one person. I had the waffle but the Lemon ricotta was missing. I really really wanted to love this place and make it our "brunch home," as I frequently get groups together. I am willing to give it another shot. Perhaps it was an off day."

  • "Went with a table of 6. Had a very nice evening. Food was very good and the room was quiet enough to have easy conversation. Only negative was having to wait over a half hour beyond our reservation to be seated."

  • "A great bar scene on a Friday evening, but not a peep could be heard in the dining area. A private room that was accommodating a small dinner party. A larger enclosed patio room that could accommodate about 50 it appears would be great for a rehearsal dinner, shower, corporate lunch/dinner, and would you know, downstairs is a ballroom that can seat 200! What a hidden gem!!! Their own parking too. But wait, the food! The service! See Phil at the bar, he's worth the trip. I was so impressed I saved myself a trip to the mall the next day for a birthday gift and walked out with a gift card for my dear friend. Not to be missed!!!"

  • "Go to Sam's regularly. This time I had the Brozino, Fair, I guess a bad choice for me. My wife had the salmon burger, Enjoyed it very much. Usually have an outstanding meal at Sam's. This timde, just so -so. Will return"

  • "The service was wonderful and the unlimited Bloody Marys made this a real buy."

  • "The smalls plates were good, we ordered the mushroom straws, smoked salmon and the hummus/spinach dip. I split the quinoa greek salad with a friend and we both agreed - there was no quinoa to be found and there was TOO MUCH dressing on this salad. The salad would be perfect if it just had some olive oil, lemon juice and S and P. Dressing overload. I ordered the scallops, they were ok but nothing awesome. My friend ordered a chicken gemelli pasta dish and couldnt finsih it and didnt even want to take it home. The special, which was prime rib was very good as was the childrens past and butter. The best part of the place was the service, excellent attentive waiter - Proseco was also very good!"

  • "The salmon entree was delicious. Service was attentive and pleasant. Although entrees were a bit pricey, we didn't mind because the meal was that satisfying."

  • "Went here with for dinner, hoping for some great food. I wanted to get the risotto listed on the online menu only to find they had discontinued it. Server was friendly and overall the service and ambience was very good. Food was well-presented, but the quality and taste did not match the fine-dining prices. Brisket was a little dry and chewy and the mashed potatoes were just ok. Mussels appetizer was ok, nothing great. Salmon was cooked well but lacked any real, developed flavor, and the accompanying vegetables had some mushrooms that me and my wife agreed tasted like burnt rubber. Beer list was pretty limited. Best thing I had was the bread and the creamed spinach. Will not be returning."

  • "Went here with a few friends for dinner. Food was great, service was good. However we were seated in a small room and felt like they crowded the room with way too many tables. Felt like we were sitting on top of each other."

  • "Nice little spot in White Plains with PARKING! Nice ambiance which is casual. Half bistro/Half bar scene. Food was good. We had burgers and fries so nothing exotic to talk about about, but it was a good burger and fries! Good place to being friends for a quick bite so give it a try!"

  • "Good variety on the menu selections. Even the picky vegetarian was pleased. The suggested wine was right on. The food was fresh and carefully prepared for presentation."

  • "A lovely restaurant worth visiting. The drinks were great, service terrific....and the food was terrific. Would recommend the salads, fried calamari, pizzas, crab cakes, chicken, salmon...Very varied menu...and all dishes prepared extremely well. My husband and I have been to Sam's of Gedney Way with family, friends as well as our kids over the course of 10-15 years, and it never disappoints. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is always our "go to" restaurant."

  • "The food is really good here. The waitstaff is nice and tries to keep tabs on if anyone needs anything without getting in the way too much. I really loved the boneless buffalo wings with the spicy buffalo sauce as an appetizer."

  • "Food and service was excellent, but was disappointed when we found the "restaurant week" lunch menu advertised on their Web site was not being honored on Saturday because of their Weekend brunch. Felt as if this was false promoting of Restaurant Week lunch pricing on their site. Desserts were expensive and ended up spending more than I would have if I'd gone to dinner without any special restaurant week pricing. So will go back to Sam's but not during Restaurant Week."
