Sam's by the Beachabsolutely wonderful!Dinner with friends here was absolutely wonderful. Sam's is a small, very personal restaurant; Sam himself circulated often amongst the tables. He is obviously a very hands-on restauranteur, and it shows in many ways, from excellent food to the discreet but warm service. We needed a little advice on wine as well as one of the entree specials, and both choices as recommended were outstanding. We received both an amuse-bouche and a dessert to share, which were really special touches; I did not see if this was done for other diners, but it left a nice impression with us! The Frenchmen in charge have real charm, and enjoy serving very good wines - the better French wines are excellent value. The menu looks wonderful, but the food slightly disappoints: solid fare, lacking flare. Soggy, large, French fries, and the wrong sort of gravy on the lamb shank - great slabs of salmon - all edible, but not special. The local waitress seemed slightly bored by her role. Our water glasses were more often empty than not. A fun local restaurant, very pleasantly decorated. We had appetizers and main courses and both were very good. I had the duck, but also tasted the lamb and the steak. Based on reviews on line I decided to take a chance on Sam's and I could not have made a better choice.
Everything went perfectly the restaurant was exactly what we wanted for her birthday. The service was incomparable to anything else. The waiter constantly took care of my date and I and brought us a free appetizer and dessert since it was our anniversary. I would recommend Sams to anyone.
