  • "I love your food , I've been twice, I do wish you would bring back the salad with the carrot dressing:-( actually maybe you could forward me the recipe for the dressing and I could make it at home, that would be awesome please and thank you."

  • "We chose the restaurant because of its gluten free menu and we were not disappointed. They had a separate GF menu with a great selection. Service was great, very friendly. "

  • "Love this place! It never disappoints. Food, Service--all excellent. Sea Bass is possibly the best I've ever had anywhere! Also not to be missed: Pork Belly Sliders with the homemade buns, Calamari Salad, Seared Tuna Lettuce Wraps, Any of the dumplings--all excellent. I will return again and again. I highly recommend the Tasting Menu if it's your first time. It gives you plenty of options and plenty of food. So worth it, well priced and comes out portioned to share, which is the best plus of all!~"

  • "I have been to Sampan over and over again and they NEVER dissapoint. This time I went with two of my girlfriends who I have not seen in ages. The server was so attentive and gave us a good amount of time to place our order since we couldn't stop talking. Their customer service and food is always top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Food was overpriced and so blah, nothing stood out at all."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for our date night, and we could not have been happier! We tried the Chef's Tasting, so we got to taste a good portion of the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious, and our servers was friendly and very helpful. I have a few food allergies, and she was able to help me without running to check with the kitchen. The noise was at a reasonable level, and my boyfriend and I got to enjoy a delicious meal in a relaxing, romantic environment."

  • "The selection is varied and the food is very good. The only drawback is that it is very noisy."

  • "We eat at Sampan quite often and it is always consistent. We love taking people there for their first time, because they always love it. This was the case for this trip and our friends were very impressed. They will certainly be back."

  • "I have been to Sampam more than 20 times. I had numerous great experiences, and 1 bad. After the bad experience, which was service related and not food related, I wrote a review (1/28/14). Normally an experience that bad would remove a restaurant from my favorites list, but I had to give Sampan another try (or two) because the food is so exceptional. I went twice since the 1/28 review and I am glad I did...thank you Sampan for being back in great form. The food has always been exceptional and the service is always as exeptional as the food. Sampan will remain my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia."

  • "I love Sampan! I have been to this restaurant about 5 time and every time feels like the best time. I always get the Chef's Tasting and share it with whoever I am dining with. The Chef's tasting is filling, allows for a great sampling of different tastes and has a wonderful presentation. This is definitely a spot I will continue to bring out of town friends to as a place to show off Philly's restaurants!"

  • "We went during restaurant week and we were both very pleased with the food tasting menu offered. The marinated Korean beef is phenomenal. The edamame dumplings were one of the best tasting things I have ever eaten. The seating was a little bit crowded for my taste but that's how city dining typically is."

  • "Happy hour prices should not be limited to bar dining only."

  • "The overall experience was great. The food and drinks were amazing, and service was very good. The only qualm I had was waiting 45 mins for a table, even though, we had reservations. However, the wait was actually worth it. I was of course losing my patience, but the food really made up for it."

  • "I went to Sampan on a Saturday evening - early. When we arrived, nearly half of the tables were empty. They still decided to seat us at the table closest to the door - each time door opened it was quite cold. We moved and placed in the back - much better. Service was painfully slow. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our starters. Once finished eating, it took so long for out plates to be cleared. My husband and daughter actually left, hoping that our server would notice and bring the check. Food was average. I had the kung pao shrimp and lobster & shrimp dumplings. I also tried the pad thai and vegetable fried rice. I'm not sure I'll go back, since there are so many great choices in Philadelphia."

  • "I took my girlfriend there. We loved it. Although the price point was up there the food was worth it especially the appetizers. Next time we are planning to try the Chef's tasting options. Fried rice was too good. Short beef rib was "meh" because the rib tasted like pulled pork. May be its supposed to be that way, but one shouldn't be confused like that when they eat their food haha...however appetizers were spot on! Tune rice crackers and Bao Bun's were the best, tag it with a glass of merlot/pinot, you are good to go. I recommend! The only negative side was the waitress we had. She was way too busy, didn't explain the food to us in a way we understood. It was gibberish to us."

  • "Tapas style restaurant; food was amazing, great choices. Fried rice with sunny egg the best!"

  • "The food was wonderful....creative and wonderfully prepared. Each dish it's own exciting taste. The service was terrible! We had one of those eye rolling, really??, bling wearing waitresses who either didn't want to be there or didn't want to serve us in particular. Also, It was a very cold night and our table was right next to the back exit door .The cold came through every time the door opened. We got the chill from the waitress and from the door! However, given all of that, we would definitely go back for the greatly exciting food...we will just be more aware of servers and wait staff."

  • "If you ask to enjoy a leisurely meal you will discover that your server has no influence on the expediter who will have food sent to your table faster than you can savor a first course. Eventually you must reject the cascade of plates. For that misdemeanor you will be punished by having your food kept warm by continued cooking. Lost will be any sense of the delicious fusion for which the restaurant is known. Back to school with management! As for the sous-chef expediter--beware! His shoveling skills would be better served as snow! As a frequent diner at Sampan, not always using Open Table. I will think twice about recommending Sampan--at least without this adjoiner."

  • "A friend recommended Sampan to us a while back, but we didn't try it out for ourselves until the evening after Valentine's Day. The two of us tried out their tasting menu, and it was magnificent. I loved the small plates we ordered (Pork Bao Bun and Lobster Ceviche). We had their kobe beef satay and the vietnamese filet (sweet potato, chimichurri, and bok choy)... And the best part of the meal for me was the soy glazed Chilean sea bass (with cauliflower puree and long bean salad), yum! The crispy rock shrimp somehow got lost on the way and we had to ask our server about it, but it was a nice addition after the kobe beef fried rice. Cute ice cream samplers as well. Since then, I've been back for their happy hour - also a great deal!"

  • "Tasting menu is a fabulous idea. Everything we tried was great; satisfying portions, too. Place is too loud, though. There were four of us, and we had a really hard time trying to have a conversation."

  • "The waitress was rude and I was told I couldn't order a drink from the bar just bc it wasn't on the menu. Used to love this place but never again. Very unhappy."

  • "I can't say enough great things about Sampan. The food is by far the best Asain food I have ever had. We did the Chef's tasting where you get 7 selections from the menu and their soft serve for dessert. Each selection is portioned for your party. We had the shrimp and lobster dumplings, pork bao bun, Korean BBQ beef satay, crab wonton taco, pekin duck, seared tuna and the kim chee fried rice. Each dish was absolutely amazing, with pork bao bun being my personal favorite. I can't wait to go back and try another chef's tasting combination to try some different and sure to be amazing food on their menu. You also get their famous soft serve for dessert....simply the best soft serve ever. It was the perfect way to end a perfect meal."

  • "My friends and I tried Sampan on a recommendation from another friend. The food was really delicious and the service was spot-on. But the noise level at dinner was so loud, my friends and I were literally screaming across the table to one another to be heard. There simply was no possibility of a real conversation."

  • "We went to Sampan before a performance at the Academy- reservation at 6 was plenty of time to make an 8 pm show. Our waiter was amazing and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the chef's tasting menu option. It was a bit loud, so not perfect for a romantic meal, but still a great date location."

  • "Food and service was great. My only complaint would be that the noise level sometimes gets too loud."

  • "My husband an I were starving-looking forward to delicious food. Schulson clearly chose the looks of this restaurant over the food. The loud club beat prevented any type of conversation along with the side by side seating. The coed bathrooms were ridiculously full with lines through out dinner. The food was disappointing. We chose the tasting menu. Very expensive and we left hungry. The edamame dumplings were good but there was not enough of them! This was the same for the sea bass, mushroom dumplings, single shrimp, etc. The only thing that was plentiful was the brussel sprouts which were tasty but bathed in oil. The szechuan chicken was also a nice size portion to actually share but was so salty that it was inedible."

  • "This was my first time having a full meal at Sampan as I usually go for Sips in the summer. It did not disappoint! Our server was accommodating and helpful in answering questions about the menu. Drink service was a little bit slow, but other than that the experience was amazing. Everything from start to finish was excellent. The desserts were to die for, I highly recommend the S'mores tart!"

  • "At the end of a busy day at the Philly Flower Show my bff's and I were more than pleasantly surprised by the fun vibe, service and ridiculously awesome tasty plates Sampan had to offer. Also, Thank you Frank for the attention you offered to our table!"

  • "This was our first time at Sampan and it was my pick for our group of 6, so I was hoping everyone would enjoy it. Our very competent server, Nate, guided us toward the tasting menu and that turned out to be a great decision. Everything was portioned to share so there was no need to worry about dividing appetizers amongst 6 people, which can be so annoying. Do not miss those Pork Bellies! Or the Sea Bass and the Short Ribs. Everyone loooooved everything. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "My wife and I have visited many restaurants throughout the world. In major metropolitan US cities this was a fabulous experience. We ordered from the tasting menu and it was well worth the price. You basically got one dish free. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an Asian flavor"

  • "We had the tasting menu - a really great way to have a taste of 7 different dishes, and you get to choose what you want (2 from the apps, and 1 from each of 5 other clusters of options). Standouts included the soup dumplings, crab tacos, Korean BBQ skewers, and Pekin chicken. Also the Chilean sea bass was cooked perfectly."

  • "If you like sharing multiple small portions, this should be top of your list. My favorites: shrimp pad thai, short ribs, edemame dumplings, beef satay, and for dessert their sushi style rice crispy rolled ice cream. ( I'm not describing it the way it should be, but it was delicious)."
