It was a good 10 minutes before anyone came up to the table after being seated and then another 10 minute wait after ordering a glass of wine. So far, we've not been disappointed. The serving staff are attentive without intruding on your privacy. It is an easy walk. Food is always good...tho service sometimes is spotty. We usually reserve it for special occasions, but if we lived closer I'd make it a more regular event. The food was great and the service was attentive without being obtrusive.
We will definitely be making several more return trips to Sammy's.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, snooty staffI've been to several wine restaurants (although this is an italian restaurant with a wine list), and yes, most wine drinkers are not sommeliers nor do they claim to be but the wait staff repeatedly corrected my pronunciation loudly and in a condescending tone when I attempted to order my glass of wine. We also received the wrong glass for another order. We ordered the syrah blend and she brought out a cab sauv, assuming I didn't know what I was ordering. The waitress seemed a little frazzled and that made us uncomfortable with her handling our orders. However, the food was good and the atmosphere was amazing. You can actually have a nice business meeting here for lunch and not have to worry about others hearing your conversation. Portions big and they even have a vegetarian lasagna that is outstanding. The staff is so friendly and we always feel welcome and end with a delicious dinner!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful pre-event dinnerWe have been to Sammy's now several times prior to events at the Meyerhoff and the staff works very diligently to make sure you get a quality meal and are out the door on time for your event. Sally's salad and eggplant appetizer is our favorite but the house salad rivals another local favorite, the Chip salad. Val is the best waitress! She is friendly, always has the authentic Italian way of discussing the menu, is quick and attentive. Great atmosphere, especially with our seat upstairs overlooking the main floor, although floor plan was a little tight. It does get very loud though! Server was very attuned to the fact that we had a 930 show and was efficient.
