A word from Sam Sneads American Grill
Back in 2001, a group of local businessmen got together with an idea to open a restaurant in the historic Southside Village which would focus on three things: Great Food, Great Service, and most of all, Great Times.
Through the years Sam Snead's American Grill has become a favorite local gathering spot. We exhibit Sam Snead memorabilia supplied by the Snead family.
We pride ourselves in offering only the best and freshest ingredients available. We prepare all fresh made soups and sauces, and serve hand cut Certified Angus Beef, which only a select few establishments are able to offer. We receive daily deliveries of fresh local produce, seafood and poultry and our prices and quality add up to value.

We enjoy offering friendly and professional service, paired with the talents of our passionate management and kitchen crew for an outstanding Sarasota dining experience!

Glad that they reopened again after being shut down fro a while. However, waiters need to be better trained in handling orders as we ll as correctly placing the bill with the right credit card, it was finally straighten out but took an extra 30 minutes while we all sat an waited. Otherwise , everything was OK

The restaurant recently reopened under new ownership and we decided to give it a try. Went there with friends. We all ordered the ribs which were wonderful- tasty and cooked to perfection. However, the coleslaw which comes with the dinner, was awful. Unedible unless you like to eat cabbage with mayonnaise. Maybe this is a minor thing, but I happen to really like good coleslaw. The waitress, who offered to give us another side after we were one with the meal, told us that they get a lot of complaints about their coleslaw, but the cook can't seem to get it right. Strange that they know about this problem (which is simple to fix-lots of good recipes online) and keep serving it anyway.

Happy hour online menu states 4-7; arrived at 6:05 after valet backup - not honored. At table 15 minutes between drink order and service; then no bread until manager was asked and brought; same with water requested. Pepper mill not brought when asked, told had 5, but 4 were stolen - only 1 was left - then provided. One of three prime ribs order was over cooked. Only positive was rib steak which was excellent - better than prior owners. Might try again if we hear better reports from others.

After being closed for several months, the restaurant opened under new management. The menu and food prep need help - good was only so-so. Staff seem nervous and gittery - but friendly. Server was competent.

We dined for lunch with the SavorSarasota menu. The beanless chili was a terrific starter, our entrees of chicken salad and fish tacos tasty and plentiful, and the fruit and sorbet for dessert yummy. With our Guiness drafts, it made a great lunch. 'Twas a shame that our waitress informed us that this Sarasota institution will be closing in a few weeks.

My wife and I had an outdoor dinner on Sunday night before Memorial Day. The rib special was enticing and we both had a full rack. I ordered sweet potato fries with it and they were hot and outstanding. However, the ribs were not so hot and my wife and I sent them back. It's a shame when a meal becomes broken up because the kitchen can't keep everything hot. I was very disappointed. Sam would have been too. Also, we ordered a burger to go for my daughter. (Order: Cheddar Cheese ONLY: Medium). The order was packaged and we didn't look at it. We should have. The burger was way under done (Bright red center) and No cheese but it had onions and tomatoes which she doesn't like and we didn't order. What is the matter?

Our food was very good, and bountiful portions, and the wait staff was fine, too. But we went on Kentucky Derby day, and the bar packed and loud. It would have been better if we had been seated on the other side of the restaurant, well away from the bar, but they weren't seating anybody on that side.

This small chain (12 locations) works hard to serve good food at fair prices. With the all the competition for your dining dollar in the Sarasota area, they still have a busy restaurant in late April and a very active bar scene full of local younger people. While I think the service could be better, it was ok on our visit but gets a bit sloppy in the height of the season.

We've headed for Sam Snead's in the past for high quality food in a casual but very pleasant atmosphere. The steaks and seafood are always done to perfection and the service is pleasant, helpful and unobtrusive. Our most recent dining experience at Snead's, however, was exceptional on two counts: 1) our reservation was useful, handy and welcoming...and 2) we were seated at a very quiet table, enabling our foursome to engage in good conversation. This seldom happens in Sarasota at the most lively restaurants as they are not designed for conversing, only for one-liners and happy drinkers. We very much appreciated getting to know our fellow diners over a delicious meal and not having to SHOUT!!!

Everything was wonderful. My meal terrific although I did think the two scotches I had were watered down. Atmosphere great. Our waitress was perfect - we were meeting people we hadn't seen in awhile and although she checked on us did not interupt or rush us to order. I wish I had remembered her name to give her the credit. I've been there for lunch twice before and am always pleased with the menu selections available, cost and food.

This is our second time at Sam Sneeds. It will probably be our last "brunch". Seemed like everything we ordered was "pre cooked" even my over easy egg that was without a doubt WELL DONE and cold. The prime rib hash was also a little lack luster, as was the salad. However, my husband really enjoyed his caprese salad and salmon BLT, so one of us was happy! Service was good, and the price was reasonable, but like I said, the food was 50-50.

This is our first time back in a few years. We came for lunch. The flatbread was very good but the lunches were Disappointing. My husband had the grilled fish sandwich which he said was raw and the flavor not to his liking. I had a salad with sliced deli turkey or chicken on top with a non existing salad dressing.....very unimaginative. I doubt we will come back.

The food was very good with a lot of choices. Our party started with the crabcake and flatbread appetizers. The crabcakes were a favorite!! For entrees we had pasta, the pork tenderloin and the filet. I was very impressed with the large selection of side dishes to choose from! The service was excellent and of course the golfers in the family loved all the Sam Snead memorabilia!

This was my frist dining experiene at Sam Snead's. We ate inside as the outdoor dining area was full, but very inviting. The two of us enjoyed our meal - good food (we both had a different fiish entree), and good service. Althogh the food was good, it was not outstanding. The bread was wonderful, and the chowder very good,, but the potato chunks were too big to put in your mouth without slicing them in half with your apoon.

How do you foul up a cheeseburger? Forget the cheese. Take it back to the kitchen, pop a piece of cheese on the burger, don't bother to even try and melt it. Food was MUCH better in seasons past. Fish (salmon) dry as can be.. Overlooked badly. Meatloaf very good and nice to see it on the menu instead of a special. Cheesy chicken nut salad is now WAY smaller than it used to be and nowhere near as well-comprised. I ordered it 2x and both times it had no nuts and invisible cheese. This restaurant has slipped badly... It's a shame because we used to love it. Our friends agree about what I've said. Fix it!!! On a happier note.. The service remains good. Our waiter was eager to be responsive and helpful.
