Moving between tables, putting crutches out of the way, being able to hear what table-mates are saying are challenges. Sam & Harry's layout is just right, the ceilings are high enough to buffer sound, the seating does not tire you out, the staff speak clearly and distinctly. Oh, and the food and wine are wonderful and the atmosphere is restful. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to the right temp. I wish we had more attentive service. Our waitperson disappeared for much of our time there and when you are flagging waitstaff, it has gone beyond the point of no return. We waited at the front desk for some time before being seated because no one was there. This restaurant feels like no one's in charge or watching and there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency or exacting standards for service that should be befitting a good steakhouse. Last time we were here, the service was attentive. This time, no. For my entree Bone-In Delmonico med-rare cooked perfectly and easily one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Oh and the service was friendly and accommodating. We have made this our "go to" restaurant for the last 3 years....using it exclusively for 2 nights in a row each time. We love the food,the atmosphere and great wine list.It's a no-brainer to stay in house and save cab fare, too.
Our most recent visit was somewhat of a disappointment. We were chastized by the host for not calling ahead to say our party of 6 would now be a party of 4. The restaurant did not fill up at any point during our 2 1/2 hour meal, but the service was slow. Not just food service, but drinks, too.
