True...under the 'New Management'..it is a bit different...but a great experience, all the same. We received a discount postcard recently and decided to use it and go to Salvatore's for my husband's birthday. I was surprised to find out they now have an outdoor dining area...very nice, but we did not choose to sit there as it seemed a bit warm.
The menu has changed some, but there were also some old familiars that still remained. The service was very attentive, the food was delicious and also a feast for the eye. Unfortunately, the last time I visited (Friday, May 31, 2013), they were having problems with their fire alarm, which went off at least five times while we were there. It was one of those alarms with a very loud buzzer and a strobe. The first time it went off, the alarm lasted over one minute. The other times it was a short beep that lasted only a few seconds, but annoying none-the-less. We had a party of 10, that 2 days later is still raving about the wonderful food and atmoshpere. Cannot say enough about what a wonderful time we had here. There were many events going on there, from multiple wedding receptions, a high school reunion and large groups, but from the bartenders, to our waiter Tommy, we were treated like we were the only people in the whole restaurant. It was definitely an experience, and I look forward to returning again! Spinach bread was awesome-definitely order two! We ordered everything from duck, steak & salmon to short rib, prime rib and tortellini w/ alfredo sauce and every dish was a 10! Some of the food was a little cold. The servers seemed to have too many tables to serve and we always had to ask for beverage refills. They had it set up buffet style with guests dining in a separate room. Aside from the walk down the hall (which only gave us an excuse to eat more), everything was wonderful. The variety and quality of food was very good. There was everything from eggs and bacon to mashed potatoes and ham. It was a delicious display that was kept fresh and lively. The servers were on top of their game, making sure coffee and juice was always flowing and that everyone was happy at all times. The restaurant is constantly evolving and offering new and exciting dishes and wines.
For starters, the table shared all of the items off of the raw bar, including shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, tuna tar tar, and chilled Alaskan king crab legs. It was all very fresh and delicious.
For an entree I ordered the new in house prepared 30 day dry aged rib eye. Amazingly tender and flavorful. I don't know any local restaurant doing this. I was told they have Wygu aging for the next steak special.
I was again impressed with the service and quality of the food. Everyone had good things to say about their dishes. I want to make note of the new wine list though. I spoke to the sommelier Sean about his picks and I found out that the list has over 500 selections? Are we in Buffalo? I find that many restaurants have great food but really lack in good wine and good wine service, They have these cool decanters that you can fill your glass yourself.I need to ask where I can get 1. I am extremely impressed. Sean recommended 2011 Minet Pouilly Fume. It was just delicious. We then moved onto a mag of Altesino Brunello with our steaks. Seating was not the best. Felt like we were in front of a sliding door that someone could come through at any time. My filet was great! Mom and her friend had surf and turf. Mom & her friend order lobster all of the time and said it was "tough" but the steak was very good. Husband had prime rib which he thought was great. Daughter had lobster ravioli that she liked. Granddaughter (13 years old)had prosciutto tortellini which she enjoyed The service was great. I had what may have been the best filet mignon I've ever had. My sister had surf and turf and said her meal tasted so good she could cry! Sure, it's pricey and not a place I could visit very often, but this is THE place to go for that special meal -- even if it's just because I'm worth it. Server Glen was perfect - friendly, funny, knew the menu, magically appeared when needed but never interrupting for the heck of it. The staff was extremely friendly. They did a great job at checking in at all points of our meal to be sure we were satisfied or if there was anything else that we needed. The decor was a bit over-the-top, but it made for conversation, and added to the experience. I got the lobster ravioli which was delicious, and my boyfriend got a steak (I don't eat read meat, but he loved it). I thought the pricing was reasonable considering the service, and the overall experience. Not to mention, we stayed at the hotel so we received a $70 voucher to use towards our meal. The wait staff were fabulous, particualarly Ken, who had to put up with two 'boisterous' ladies. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun.
