Diner Reviews
  • "Yet another delightful celebration of life with food and wine for us at Salute. You quickly become one of the family here. The seasonal potato leek soup was as if it had been made in a village in Italy, rustic and comforting with that long-simmered, deep, full flavor --a perfect blend of spices to compliment but not overpower. Our first time having the Gamberoni (Large Prawns) with a sundried-tomato lemon-butter sauce but we substituted the polenta for the mashed potato. It was fresh and very tasty. A Ribeye was done to perfection and the small roasted potatoes were just right for the light reduction. To be treated like family with such a wondeful table set out before you never gets old."

  • "I went with my family for my son's 18th birthday. I had heard about it but had not dined in it before. The waitress was excellent as well as the hostess and the other service staff. My husband was late so we had to wait for him to get our orders taken but other than that I have no complaints. Their dessert menu is excellent and the menu has very delicious food. Its a bit pricey but well worth it."

  • "Showed up on time for reservation, told the hostess that we had a reservation and the name it was under, she sat us down and an hour later she called me and left me a voicemail asking me why I hadn't shown up for my reservation.... Food is just ok, I can make better food than that at home, which beats the whole point of going out, waitress also has ADD apparently, had to ask her 2, 3 sometimes 4 times for water, hot sauce (food is kind of bland), we asked for a dessert menu like 3 times and 30min later a dessert cart finally appeared. Probably not going back."

  • "Most Bay Area folks are unfamiliar with Salute E Vita Ristorante probably because it is in Richmond which can be an unsafe place to visit. This restaurant is on the South side of Highway 580 which is perfectly safe. There's a beautiful park and bike/walking lane. Rosie the Riveter "museum." Restaurants overlooks marina."

  • "Great harbor view location but difficult to find due to recent road construction. Even though we were late, not a problem for an attentive but not bothersome staff. High quality food, homemade pasta and pizza. Pretty good but not great food -- a tad under seasoned, lacking a "pop" quality that I'm used to in SF/OAK restaurants. But I'll be a regular as I live in Hercules and I think it's really important to support a minority-woman owner who not only runs a quality house but is supportive of the community. Prices are also good -- no entree above $20 bucks in a white linen restaurant with a view! Parched east county residents looking for a bay view should definitely consider this restaurant and avoid a trek to San Francisco or Oakland. Try!"

  • "We went there for a special occasion and were treated like royalty. The wait staff was professional and the food was wonderful. Their seafood specialties are always good and they are willing to adjust menu items to handle my food allergies. Highly recommend!"

  • "Few people in the Bay Area realize there is a "safe Richmond." Salute E Vita Ristorante located there. Right on the water........spacious open feeling with Italian saying on the walls Wait staff are accommodating. Prices reasonable Place for a quiet meal. Rarely see small children."

  • "This was an accidental find just by adding Richmond to my search on Open Table. The restaurant is a remodeled house and it is lovely, the service was understated and excellent and the food was very, very good. The view was great as it is on the Bay. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have dinner somewhere that gives the diner a very good experience."

  • "Hoping more people do not let the construction get in the way of getting to this wonderful restaurant"

  • "Our lunch for 5 experience here was great. We were seated promptly, our waiter was helpful and attentive but didn't crowd us with over service! We were seated at a lovely banquette overlooking the marina and were all impressed with the table setting and the general ambience of the restaurant - in particular there was a vase of roses on each step going up the main staircase, what a lovely touch! Each of us ordered a different dish and we all commented on how tasty all the dishes were. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend, and we are all meeting here again next time we get together."

  • "It was a busy night, and the "quiet" table I had asked for was in a room with full tables of loud groups, definitely the kind of table I had reserved, but the woman who seated us explained they had had a large crowd and this was the only table available for 4. I noticed a table in the area I wanted to be in originally, on the porch, and the couple was leaving, so she agreed to get that table together and it was ready in minutes."

  • "What a sweet place to have a nice quiet dinner by the waters edge. Service was very friendly."

  • "We went the day after Valentine's Day. The lovely hostess agreed to switch our smaller table to a booth, for a better view. First, the bread was a strange focaccia, kind of served like a square gingerbread. The tomato bisque was in an espresso cup, but lukewarm. My husband's coffee was also cold. The salads were excellent. My husband had the Pere Salad and I had the Sorrentino Salad. My husband had the prawns with mashed potatoes and said the prawns were tough. I thought they were good. I had the short ribs and I was expecting the kind that they serve at Travigne, but it tasted more like a bland beef stew. The white chocolate cheesecake and the creme brûlée were awesome. Gabriela our server was fabulous, but the food was hit and miss."

  • "Since we went on Valentine's Day, we didn't know exactly what to expect. Sometimes restaurants get jammed, service suffers, and the whole experience is poor. This did not happen- we were taken to our table on time, drinks from the bar were great, the calamari were out of this world tender and hot. Entrees did not disappoint either- my wife had the seafood pasta, and I had the shrimp w/lemon sauce- all very good. We washed it all down with a Sauvignon Blanc wine. We would like to try this place again for a Sunday brunch, which we have heard good things about."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Please try the calamari appetizer! It is fantastic. Wonderful little hidden gem. Construction on the main road getting to the restaurant, but there are detours. Please don't let the construction distract you. Nice on the pocketbook, but nice enough to make you think you're at one of those higher priced restaurants on the Berkeley Marina."

  • "We had a very nice romantic evening out at Salute E Vita. Our waiter, John, was very prompt, courteous, but not over-bearing. The appetizer (stuffed portabella mushroom on polenta) was very tasty, smooth, and filling. Dinner (eggplant parmesan, and shrimp scampi) were equally as good. Dessert was the cheesecake with coffee. Highly recommend."

  • "My parents treated my husband and myself to a brunch at Saluté for a belated Christmas gift. The food was the best we've ever had, hands down. Our meals were amazing, and the desserts, scrumptious. And both our servers were fantastic, going out of their ways to make sure we had exactly what we needed/wanted, and always topping off our water and the delicious, fresh, homemade rosemary bread."

  • "I took my wife here for a our first valentines day since being married. We were running behind due to traffic, but the hostess was more than happy to accomodate us. In fact, we were greeted and shown to our table by the owner! She was a sweet woman and can't wait to visit again. The one thing I will say that stood out the most was the service and ambience. You really feel welcomed and treated with the best hospitality."

  • "Menbere and her staff are wonderful. Ambiance is really nice, fine food, waterfront dining, great service, and an irresistible dessert tray."

  • "I have been many time to Salute. It is not consistent in service or food. It is nice along the water. It took time for the waitress to start service. My food, the short ribs were bland. The other guests, 2 said good, one said ok. The large party in the other room was distracting for private conversations. The waitress was friendly but it appeared she was new or Salute was under staffed."

  • "Salute is a long-time favorite of ours, and we are never disappointed. It's a fun destination with an intimate water view. The food is very good, the owner and her staff very friendly, the service quite good, the bar excellent and reasonably priced."

  • "Even though it was a miserable rainy Sunday, we had a cozy corner of the restaurant for a nice, long get together. We were busy talking and our waitress was wonderful -attentive yet didn't rush us. Looking out at the rainy marina, we really felt we found a port in the storm."

  • "Took a group here for a business lunch. Excellent food and service, enjoyable atmosphere. Convenient location with people coming from San Francisco, North Bay and East Bay."

  • "Our 5th or 6th visit to Salute E Vita. It never disappoints. A relaxed authentically European ambiance without pretension or apology, it offers a warm simple decor that highlights great views of Richmond Marina and the Bay. Table service is, as expected, impeccable...warm, efficient and responsive - never intrusive. Nice wine list and the food..SUPERB! Perfect salads with walnuts, tomato and gorganzola preceded my hearty, fresh lentil zuppa del giorno. My wife said her Zuppa de Pesce took Cioppino to a whole new level. My fettuccine with seafood and greens in a light white wine was deliciously subtle and satisfying. Frankly, our dinner was way better than our last trip to Alfredo's in Rome. Go. It is definitely worth the trip."

  • "Recently shown on Check Please! this historic building is quaint and well maintained. I hadn't been for several years. it's nice inside and the harbor views are great. We went for Sunday brunch, it was picture perfect. Efficient and friendly staff, the food (the polenta and the frittata) was cooked perfectly for us. A very nice, romantic spot, worth the search! it's hard to find due to the City of Richmond construction on Marina Way. but keep trying, it's worth the trip. We'll be back for the Happy Hour 3-6p 7-days."

  • "We were running out of options for an early New Year's dinner spot with a view of the sunset and were happy to find this place. The service was great and friendly, but the limited dinner menu was a surprise to all, including the waiter. We enjoyed the sausage/vegetable hearty soup, but the home made bread was not a good match for dipping. The 14oz. steak was quite a bit smaller, quite gristly, thin, and tough, and the delicate saffron mushroom (?) sauce was non-descript. The accompanying vegetables were the same. The shrimp dish was nothing to 'write about' but perfectly acceptable. The pasta menu was very limited and uninspired. We may go back to try a lunch, but the search of a New Year's sunset view restaurant is still on."

  • "We took out of town guests here because of recent news coverage of the owner's commitment to giving back to those in need and youth. We were not disappointed as there was a large group from a school having their holiday dinner. Although it wasn't as quiet as it would normally be, there was no disruption in service by staff, delay in being served, or decline in quality of food. Our waiter was charming, attentive, and knowledgeable. All four meals were fresh and well prepared. We all plan to return as well as refer friends and family to this lovely restaurant."

  • "Delicious food and attentive service - that's what we value and why we go to Salute. Plus it has a lovely view. It was hard to chose from the several options of specials, but everyone at our table of 6 enjoyed their meal - from raviolis to lamb chaps with risotto to fettucini with prawns, and more. To top it off , we appreciate the restaurant's support of the local community - they recently served a huge meal for the needy."

  • "Right now it takes a GPS to find this wonderful restaurant, due to highway construction and an uncooperative city, but Saluté is a magnificent restaurant filled to the brim with everything you want in a place to bring your family and friends. Whether going for lunch, brunch, dinner, or just after dinner drink and dessert, this is a delightful place to go. The owner and staff really do everything to make your stay memorable. I have never had anything there that wasn't been worth recommending to others. It's a must for fine dining."
