A word from Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul
Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French! Book the Le Grand Boeuf family-style feast, serving 8-10 people. Call Liz Jobe to make your reservation 651.917.2345.

Our meal at Salut was absolutely delicious. The petite filet melted in my mouth. However, the service was HORRIBLE! Our waiter failed to show us the Specials board, he took at least 15 minutes to bring the first bottle of wine we ordered and we had to ask for our check after being in the restaurant for over 2 1/2 hours. Now, I have to say we did not complain because we were enjoying spending the evening with friends that we had not seen in a long time. We were there for a leisurely dinner. However, it was weird that we were one of the last tables in the restaurant around 10 p.m. and still had to ask for our check. He should have checked back sooner. I would return to Salut again, but I would be more mindful of our service next time.

the music was awful! We were on the patio for dinner and the mix of music included a techno britney spears song, cher, and other dance/ hip-hop music which was not fitting for a restaurant of this caliber. It almost ruined our evening but we had good service and good food.

I love Salut in Edina. I live in St. Paul so this is just perfect for me. Salut's food is terrific and very diverse. I recommend the moules (mussles) and frites (fries). The cream puff for dessert might be the best deal on the menu - and it's outstanding!

We had a most pleasant time. Our wait person was very impressive. She didn't mind that we stayed and stayed at our table. I must say we will probably return because of her and her bright smile and friendly ways. The parking is a problem, but you already know that. The food was outstanding. I wish we could have eaten outside, but the weather didn't allow that. Maybe next time.

Our server was amiable, great decor, and the "onion burger" was quite yummy. My wife's tuna dish was ok, but she thought her beans were undercooked. Our companions enjoyed their chicken -- simply done, but done well. The appetizer of calamari was ok -- given the price, thought there could've been more of a portion. Overall, a very fun and tasty time was had. We'll come back.

Great dinner experience. Food was great and Lloyd our waiter was outstanding! Both of the men at the table ordered steak, and said it was in the top 3-4 steaks that they had ever had; and they have had many at some of the finest steak houses around. Ordered an "Orangish" martini from the bar, and the bartender got it perfect both times we ordered it. We will definitely be back and will be sure to spread the word about Salut. Welcome to Grand Avenue! What a great addition to the neighborhood!

We were seated near the kitchen and we could not even hear our waiter -- and he couldn't hear us. He brought us the wrong kind of wine, I'm sure because he couldn't hear what we said. We had to shout to hear each other. The noise was so unpleasant it really impacted the evening. The food was great -- especially the calamari appetizer. They brought a red velvet cupcake with a sparkler in it for the birthday we were celebrating, which was a nice touch. I'd go back, but with the specific request that we NOT be seated any where near the kitchen.

really good blue cheese steak. overpriced, however, for grand avenue. would rather have gone to Manny's to pay the same for a steak. spinach salad with softshell crab was a wreck. the spinach leaves weren't dressed - they were dry. would be nice to have it either wilted or dressed. bread on top of spinach was unnecessary. crab tasted as if it hadn't been cleaned (guts removed, etc)

I love the food at Edina location and also loved my food in St. Paul. The service, however, seems to still have a few kinks to work out. We were seated at 12:30 PM and didn't have our lunch entrees until well after 1:00. By the time we finished dessert, it was 2PM. This makes it tough for a quick business lunch. Unfortunately, we had very little communication with our waiter. He took drink, entree and dessert orders and other than that, we rarely saw him. A bit of communication on his part about the "kitchen being backed up" or dessert needing to take 10-15 minutes to arrive would have made the experience more pleasurable! I hope Salut works out the kinks or I will stick with the Edina location!

Our server had a great personality, but he steered us clear of several of the dishes on the menu, which was unusual, and put down my friend's dinner choice when she ordered it. She still ordered it and enjoyed it, but felt badly by him ripping on her for ordering it. I liked his honesty, but he took it a little too far in that case.

The service was terrible and the steak Dianne was cold. We waited nearly thirty minutes in anticipation of our server bringing our appetizer and he returned to take our dinner order and said "okay, I'll get those and your appetizer in right away" !!!!! If you're planning to enjoy your drinks don't plan on it b/c they take nearly 20 minutes to get there.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

This was our first time dining here, and I have to say we were disappointed. Two different managers, as well as our server, had to come to our table to apologize for how long our food was taking. The hamburger that I had was ok, but nothing spectacular (I expected great things for a 14.00 hamburger.) My wife had the halibut special, which was good, but again - for 35.00 it should come to the table more than lukewarm, especially since we had been waiting so long for our food! The atmosphere is great indoors. We had actually requested an outdoor table when we made the reservation, but when we arrived we were told we would have to wait like everyone else if we wanted to sit on the patio, which was also a disappointment.

This location just opened and it needs work. Mostly, despite advertising like crazy and opening at the start of summer, they seem to have hired far too few staff to cope with the demand. We made a reservation, were seated promptly but waited 20 minutes to see a waitress and although we ordered immediately waited another hour for our entrees. In addition the wait staff seemed very inexperienced, and not at all familiar with the menu. This could be forgiven for a moderate neighborhood place, but Salut is premium priced, frankly over-priced for what it is. I like the concept, and the location and large patio are to die for, but they need to do much better in terms of service. I won't be going back until I hear things have improved. Pity

We had a lot of fun on the first day! Our server was great! In fact, we had such a good time, I came back the next day with another group!! Thank you for adding another option to Grand Avenue's dining "scene!" Unfortunately, I was not able to make the reservation online for our size group. The second day was just as good as the first lunch! It would have been nice to sit outside, but with 9 people that might be difficult - do you have a group size limit for the patio??
