A word from Salut Bar Americain - Edina
Salut Bar Américain is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. Salut gives French dining a shot in the arm – while giving the French a gentle kick in the derriere. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French – but proudly American.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service was great. A little noisy at first but calmed down later. They have so many good things, it's hard to settle on one. I had the onion soup burger which was fab as was the blue cheese salad."

  • "We trusted that Salut would provide a wonderful, festive dining experience for a special occasion -- welcoming our future daughter-in-law's family to Minneapolis. Salut not only met, but exceeded, our already high expectations. From the moment we walked in the door, our special occasion was made even more special. The food was wonderful (the featured brunch dishes were a hit) and the service was above and beyond (with a specific shout out to Dirk). Thank you Salut!!"

  • "We were intrigued by an online ad we received from Salut promoting their Happy Hour. Had the perfect occasion to try it out as we had an early evening meeting to attend near by. We were not disappointed. Huge bowl of mussels for $5.00. Calamari - mini burgers, french fries...... we left absolutely stuffed and happy."

  • "Only vegetarian offering for lunch were salads. Salad portions are very small and can't really be considered a lunch entrée."

  • "A pleasure every time! Surprisingly quiet for a midweek lunch. Great food, friendly service. One of our favorites."

  • "We always love dining at Salut! The food is great and it's a really fun, relaxed, and accessible place to have a full dinner or a drink and an appetizer."

  • "As parents of young kiddos, we had a rare date at Salut. The food was fabulous, from the calimari starter, scallops, pasta, asparagus, and chocolate cake finale! A relaxed, unpretentious vibe, but still felt special. We had a great night out. The only downside was that the table (along the wall with a booth in the back was so close to the tables on either side of us. First I could barely squeeze in (I'm an avg size woman) and then we heard the conversation of these other parties all night. It diminishes the joy of going out when you feel you're virtually sitting hip to hip with strangers."

  • "Salut in Edina is our 'go-to' place for dinner as we live nearby. The food and service are always top notch and the place always has good energy. We'll definitely keep coming back!"

  • "It's hard to find a place that's consistent in its' experience, but Salut-Edina delivers every time. Cassandra is the very definition of WOW customer service. She remembers me every visit, adjusts her service based on the speed at which we like to enjoy our drinks, apps, dinner, etc...and never disappoints."

  • "Another very good experience at this restaurant. Our party of 6 had to a wait a bit for a table because I requested a table away from the bars (which are pretty noisy). They honored my request. Excellent food, very well handled service for a group of 6. Hanger Steak was excellent."

  • "Excellent dining spot in the always trendy 50th & France area. Great food, attentive but not annoying staff. Weird they ran out of Perrier by Saturday night at 6 but whatever."

  • "Salut - even simple bites on the menu are delicious. Loved the food - onion soup and frites are always one of my favorite combos.. However - it is never a disappointment to venture into the variety on the menu!"

  • "We came to Salut for a birthday celebration and I was pleasantly surprised that they had put a special "Happy Birthday" placard on the table. The staff were very solicitous and friendly and our server did not rush us through any part of the meal so we had a lovely, leisurely time in the restaurant. The menu has a a wide variety of items for the meat-lover and non-meat lover alike."

  • "I've eaten here several times and never been disappointed. Some of my favorites are their calamari and French Onion soup. The burgers are good and they have very good seafood. My only reservation is that the noise level makes it difficult to have conversation with a large group (6 or more) when the place is crowded, which it is on most Friday and Saturday nights. It would be nice if they could put up some more sound absorbing tiles. Overall, it is a great place!"

  • "We were all treated very well and the food was amazing. Oysters, steaks, salads and fish. Dessert. All good. Service impeccable."

  • "Vibrant atmosphere and fun cocktail list. Our waitress disappeared for a while and we weren't sure if she was coming back. I think they felt bad about that cause they comped us a desert which was outstanding and very tasty."

  • "Salut is one of my favorite restaurants in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I come here for my birthday (free yummy dessert + sparklers = happy birthday to me!), lunch, dinner, any occasion. They have a charming, updated take on the classic French bistro. Monday nights feature a Julia Child special recipe and $10 (selected) bottles of wine. The steaks are always a great way to go, but there are plenty of other great options (I had duck a l'orange my most recent visit). The service is impeccable. Parking is usually plentiful either on-street or in the free ramp just behind the restaurant. My one complaint is that they changed what was my favorite item (the Salade Nicoise) and the new version is not nearly as good."

  • "We had been looking forward to eating at Salut for a while, since we live in the 50th/France neighborhood. The food was delicious, and had a variety of options. However, we were shocked at the poor service we received from our server. She wasn't knowledgeable or helpful about wine recommendations or the menu. We felt like she answered incorrectly about the portion size of the salad. Our beverages were empty for about 30 minutes after finishing our meals. We had to flag her down for more water eventually. My husband, my mother and I all agreed we would expect to receive that service at an informal, large chain restaurant. It wasn't acceptable given the level of quality and price for the food."

  • "I knew it would be a busy night, so I Open Table'd a rez for two at 8. We were running ahead of schedule, but decided to go in anyway & get a drink before our table would be ready. Walked in @ 7:40. Greeted by my name. Let me repeat that. I was greeted by name. I mentioned that we were early, the hostess said "No worries, I'm going to go find a nice booth & fit you in." We were promptly ushered in. My date leaned in and asked "Do you come here everyday or something?" Nope. Salut just knows how to give amazing customer service. Scored an awesome booth in the back & had a wonderful meal - from cocktails to dessert. The service was impeccable. This is the kind of story I will tell everyone I know, because it's too rare in our city."

  • "My wife and I have enjoyed this restaurant for years, but they were not at their best tonight. My wife's salmon and shrimp salad was brought to the table without any salmon. My bouillabaisse arrived without the usual crusty bread. My son's bolonaise was delivered to the table with the fewest noodles ever; his face was one of disbelief. They apologized and made everything right, but the trifecta put a damper on the evening."

  • "I go here for special occasions throughout the years. Food, ambiance, is always good. This was unusual. I had to get up and ask someone to find the waitress twice. Everything else was great as usual."

  • "I had heard nice things about Salut, but my experience wasn't so pleasant. It was VERY noisy and loud. My wife was across the table from me, a distance of maybe three feet and we were completely unable to hold a conversation. To make matters worse, the music was cranked up to reach over the din of the crowd. I mean it was CRANKED up. The service was ok, the food itself was marvelous, but the atmosphere, was like a cafeteria at a bus station. Very unpleasant. Won't be going back."

  • "We went here for our Valentine's Day celebration which ended up being on the 15th of February instead of the 14th. The hostess's were extremely nice and welcoming. My boyfriend's only complaint about the seating is that they have the long booths with the small two person tables so you end up being very close to your neighbor. I don't mind this much, but if you do, request a booth when making your reservation. We got the Filet Tartar and it was AMAZING. I also got a trio of assorted Oysters. Literally some of the best I have had in Minnesota. They are better than Stella's and Copper River. For entrees we got the Prime Rib and a Lobster special. Both delicious in flavor and the lobster dish was really unique! Would absolutely go again!"
