A word from Salumeria Rosi
Tuscan born Chef Cesare Casella, who is also Dean of Italian Studies at the International Culinary Center, collaborates with the Rosi family, renowned in Italy for their family-owned and operated company Parmacotto to bring New York’s Upper West Side Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto.
The 25-seat space was designed by Italian Oscar-winning set designer Dante Ferretti and draws inspiration from a traditional Italian salumeria in modern scenery. They have brought to New York the experience found in traditional salumeria throughout Italy; guests can purchase the highest-quality cured or cooked meats to take home, or enjoy time with friends over a glass of wine and a selection of small plates.
The menu consists of assaggi, or tastings, available for lunch and dinner. These assaggi allow everyone to taste a variety of items and experience the spirit of Tuscan flavors to the fullest. Using only the finest and freshest ingredients, Chef Casella offers the best of classic Tuscan cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "We dined early on a weeknight so it was neither crowded nor noisy. Two of us shared the small salami plate (this was the best selection of charcuterie we have ever had. Of the eight items on the plate the porchetta and the speck were the best of the best. The other outstanding dish was Amatriciana, a pasta dish with a sauce made with nine meats, onions and tomatoes. Our third selection was a special of the night, chard with garlic. It was no better than waht we make at home and cost $12 which was way too much. We should have gone with meats all the way or I should have asked about the price of the specials."

  • "Food was fantastic! Love the small portions. Seating inside was very tight. People are VERY close to one another. Could not have a conversation."

  • "My husband and I always find time to eat at Salumeria Rosi when we are in the city. The service is always prompt and friendly and the food is so special. Highest quality imported Italian meats, small plates ("Italian tapas") so it is great for sharing and trying "a little of everything," and great wine to wash it all down with! You have to get the selection of assorted imported salamis as well as the lasagna (best I've ever had and I grew up in an Italian family!). "

  • "The food is good. I would stick to the dried meats and cheeses. The pasta and the ribs were fine but far from inspiring. The wines were just bad, high acidity and little else. The wait staff are hilarious or annoying depending on your expectations. They know their stuff, but the attitude of superior foodiness and the over the top "isn't this the ultimate uber experience of your life?" can make you laugh or want to slap them. "

  • "We just love the food, wine and service at Salumeria Rosi! We ate there again last night, this time for our son's birthday. Tara, the manager greeted us warmly upon our arrival. Our server Rebecca was helpful and friendly making wonderful suggestions. The meat and cheese selections are amazing and the main pasta's that Rebecca recommended were delicious as well. Lastly I love their Tuscan bean salad, loaded with tasty unusual beans. We have also ordered platters of meat and cheese many times to serve in our apartment where our guests refer to them as 'the REALLY GREAT meat and cheese. "

  • "i am not a small plates person but this is a must because it's hard to decide between the spare ribs, leek tart, roast salmon, sausage, caponata, pastas... Service is nicely attentive. We were not loving the wine but thought it was not to our taste. They noticed and made a great substitution without our asking. "

  • "I hadn't been back in a long time, and I was reminded why I used to come here quite often: the food is delicious. The leek tart is addictive, the porchetta sandwich wonderful, the brussel sprouts delicious."

  • ""The next reservation for your table is at 5 p.m. so you'll have plenty of time". I supose the hostess was trying to be friendly letting us know at what time strangers had reserved that table we were ( it was 3.20 p.m. and our reservation were 3.40pm so we were early) but it was one of the rudest things I could listen from a hostess ever. What me and my mom supposed to do at 4.59pm if we were not finished? feel obligated to leave? is that the reason for letting us know for sure about it? Despite that the food was good, and the waiters were truly nice, but that treatment before made it's impression... Obs: the place was almost empty! "

  • "Salumeria Rosi was a true find. Ate there twice during our last visit to NY. Seriously delicious food, each and every dish. "

  • "Went into the city for the weekend, saw a concert at the Beacon. Found Salumeria Rosi on Google Maps while searching for someplace to grab a bite before the show. The menu looked interesting so we made a reservation and took a shot. It was THE BEST meal we had while in NYC. The ambiance was relaxed but elegant, the service was friendly and prompt, and the food was AMAZING. We will be back the next time we are in town for sure!"

  • "Over the years I have eaten here, I have been consistently delighted. The superb food - delicious, fresh, creative - attentive and respectful service, neighborhood warmth make this a top choice in the neighborhood and also worth travelling for. The small space creates intimacy but makes for difficulties with reservations."

  • "Feels as if you're in Italy, romantic, and relaxing. Great passionate wait staff who understand and love the menu. It shouldn't be missed if you love authentic Italian cuisine."

  • "We felt as if we were sitting in a little restaurant in Italy --transported with the sights, sounds and tastes of Italy. The food was incredible, the service attentive and friendly. The restaurant had a lovely intimate energy and it was fun seeing the faces of others as they tasted their food and delightfully moaned at first bite. Fresh and simply prepared, the meal was perfect. This truly is a gem from Italy. Seating is limited, so be sure to make a reservation."

  • "finding a fine restaurant on the Upper West Side, though admittedly getting easier, can still present a bit of a challenge. my wife and I like really tasty, fresh food served in a not so stuffy environment. We found the perfect combination of all those things at Salumeria Rosi. Though not normally enamored with restaurants that advise you of a specific duration of time that the table has been set aside for you (here it was an hour and a half) we decided to roll with the flow as neither of us tend to linger over our meals. The food was delicious and the service was pretty much perfect. We finished right at the outside of the hour and a half limit (acutally about ten minutes over) but there were no awkward moments. Great dining experience!"

  • "I would highly recommend this restaurant except that the hostess tells you that you have a time limit when she seats you. As frequent diners, we understand they need to turn tables but it's highly rude to tell people on a 6:00pm reservation that "You have until 7:30 but I'm sure that's plenty of time for you". A. we're eating at old people time and B. thank you we're aware we're supposed to vacate the table when finished."

  • "I've never been disappointed with Salumeria Rosi. The food, wine and service are always top-notch and the general feel of the place is very cool and nice, without being stuffy or pretentious. This is one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood and one we'll definitely go back to again and again."

  • "The space is tight and you'll become intimately familiar with your neighbors but you'll be rewarded with numerous delicious northern Italian "tapas" sized plates. I find the prices to be on the expensive side. $12 for two golf ball sized meatballs is a bit much no matter how delicious. Still, the service is excellent and the food delicious so it's worth the occasional indulgence."

  • "I've dined here often and always it until my last visit. They enforce a 90 minute turn time, but when I dinned here in the past I do not recall such a time restraint? Anyway, my date and I had ordered a bottle of wine and numerous small plates. We finished our bottle but still had pretty full plates of food in front of us so we wanted to order more wine but BTG. We were informed that our 90 minutes was almost up and we could not order additional wine. I understand time restraints; however, we ate only as fast as our food came out and then had to leave a good amount behind because our time was up!! Furthermore, there were empty tables around us and no wait at the door. Sadly I will not return to this once favorite neighborhood spot."

  • "This place has been around for awhile so it's well understood that it is a combination Italian delicacy shop and a restaurant.. Less understood is how damn good the food has become. The small plates come out as ready and each provides a surprise. We tried the leak tart for the first time and it is wonderful. Steak with white beans is another treat. We said no to dessert and then couldn't resist finding out what caramelized prosciutto might be when combined with semifreddo. An entire lifetime can go by without being tempted. Don't let that happen!"

  • "The food was simply delicious, well prepared, served nicely, professionally described. I cant wait to go back. The ONLY thing is that it is like eating at nice tables at a deli. The prices however, are more in line with a full service, top of the line Italian restaurant. Given that the people up front were not very friendly ( a smile would not HURT!) and that the reservation process was more concerned with letting me know the time at which I had to leave, the food will bring me back."

  • "I just love this place. A true foodies heaven....service always so friendly and knowledgeable...then the true star (the food) arrives....as in an interesting wine list and this place just ticks every box for us and is a 'do not miss when in NYZ'."

  • "The food was fantastic. We enjoyed the different cured meats we sampled, and the small portions allowed us to share a diverse range of menu items. When we first arrived we were warned our table was promised to someone else 2 hours after our reservation. One of us had to sit on a backless seat that looked like a footstool. We asked for a chair and were told that was all they had because the chair was broken (the restaurant section was still empty at this point but no effort was made to accommodate our request). We felt rushed and not welcomed. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Too bad. The food and wine were excellent but the staff need a little attention and training to make this a wonderful place."

  • "I've been to Salumeria Rosi several times and the food never disappoints. Ordering small plates and sharing with others in your party allows you to try many wonderful dishes, cured meats and cheeses. A few highlights -the spicy sopresseta and spicy coppa are great and they make a pasta with a delicious amatriciana sauce and a tasty lasagna. The only dish I've had there that I won't order again is the polenta, when I had it the sauce was bland."

  • "We've been to Salumeria Rosi a number of times because we really like the Italian deli food and the waitresses are almost invariably delightful, as ours was on Monday might. But the person who called to confirm the reservation's insistence that we had 90 minutes to eat before we had to give up the table was off-putting. When the same message was repeated, it felt rude. When we arrived, the man at the door wanted us to wait for our assigned table, which was still occupied, though there were three other tables free. I asked for one of those and, after a moment of thought, he agreed and we sat down to a lovely meal. Why the rude up front when the dinner part is so enjoyable?"

  • "Made a last minute Monday evening reservation to have dinner with a friend. Had the usual - prosciutto de parma, cingale, salad with scrambled eggs, caponata, brussell sprouts, lasagna, along with a couple of glasses of the Neprica - and it was all great. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We visit Manhattan several times a year, and Salumeria Rosi is our first dinner stop! Seating tight but cozy and comfortable. The wine list is limited but very good and reasonable. Cheese plates always interesting and delicious. Small plates are wonderful; we always get the Brussels sprouts! Portions seem to have gotten larger."

  • "If you're frustrated trying to get into Salumeria Rosi at night, try lunch. Much quieter during the day and not as packed. Food's every bit as delicious."

  • "Very much enjoyed this eating adventure. We had the Selezione del Sulmiere, a chef's choice platter with 3 slices of I think it was 7 or so salamis and prosciutto. I believe we had IL PARMACOTTO, PROSCIUTTO SAN DANIELE, MORTADELLA DI BOLOGNA, and more, but was too busy enjoying to pay attention. For brunch we all ordered UOVO AFFOGGATO and a single plate of gluten-free pasta AMATRICIANA to share. We had Bellinis to drink which were heavenly. We finished off with coffees and a Caffe Shakerato (sp?) with Amaretto disaronno flavoring it. We weren't going to have desert but then stopped in for a cup of Jacques Torres hot chocolate (his shop is next door) -- which is like drinking from Willy Wonka's river. Delicious!"

  • "Good Food, fun ambience..but beware of "out by" policy. Server handed us the check after 90 minutes and told my dining partner and I that we had to leave even though we were still finishing our wine, and were planning on ordering dessert. Very disrespectful. ."

  • "was disappointed by the food which seemed to get very positive press. I found it average at best. The 10 dollars glass of Chianti was mediocre. Also a bit put off by the 90 mns maximum table stay repeated throughout the restaurant site as well as the Open Table site, and again at the time of the reservation reminder when the staffer phoned. Service was very friendly and helpful however."

  • "We normally go here because the food is great and expect to put up with the sour faced hostess and spotty service. Maybe it was her day off but no mention of the I need your table back in an hour (despite the fact that we know that is not the case and always stay beyond our so called allotted time). Service was great and very attentive and everyone seemed oin a good mood. Will not be so apprensive on our next visit. Had been building muyself up to a fight all the way down Amsterdam!"

  • "Small restaurant, pleasant, chilly when outside door opened. Sliced meats very tasty but not big enough for sharing. Bread fresh and tasty- have to ask for olive oil. Main courses OK but not outstanding. Cookies for dessert very disappointing -bland and a little stale. Ninety minute reservation limit noted on website, repeated again when called by reservationist and when seated a turn off."

  • "My girlfriend and i had dinner here on one of our first nights in New York and the food was pretty good.. The food portions were not massive, so you got to try a few different meals. In the end, we ended up getting a cold meat tasting plate to start, which was excellent. Then we had 3 mains, including the Italian sausage pasta dish. Would recommend this place for a special occasion, but book ahead as it is popular."
