We ate outside and it was very nice.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMa truly wonderful restaurantAfter scouring the internet for a special place to take my girlfriend to a romantic dinner, this was the only place that I found which had consistently good reviews - and I was not disappointed. Everything about this restaurant is TOP NOTCH - food, service, and atmosphere. Classy without being pretentious.
We had the crab cake appetizer, spinach salad, steak frites, and filet mignon. I am generally easy to please, but it says something about a restaurant when my very particular foodie girlfriend genuinely liked everything we ordered.
And if you want to come here for a special occasion, the staff is great at helping and they will go above and beyond. He ordered a very healthy portion of steak that was well worth the price with delicious sides and appetizers as well. The only setback was having an outdoor concert right outside the restaurant (independent of Saluda's) so it got a little noisy when the porch door would open. Other than that it has a nice romantic atmosphere with low lighting and very likable staff at hand. Athough our reservation was for 2, they were gracious when we appeared with 3 and sat us outside. I had the spinach salad and I would highly recommend it. I also had the ribeye with blue cheese. It was delicious, although the meat was a little chewy. I ordered tiramisu for dessert and don't recommend it at all -just wasn't tiramis. Friends had halibut and said it was delicous and had carrot cake and chocolate cake, both which seemed to be really good. Our server was VERY good, accomodating all of our needs while being very pleasant. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. The specials are always creatively inspired and delicious. Other than steaks (which are the best in town) there seems to be nothing on the menu that can be found anywhere else in Columbia. The bbq fried tomato starter was remarkable. The king-clip fish was excellent as were the 72 hour ribs. Also had crab cakes that have to be the best in SC. Great timely friendly service! We began our meal with a bottle of Ravenswood wine that was amazing. For an appetizer, my boyfriend and I split the fried oysters, which were perfectly breaded and had a really good sauce. Both of us had a wedge salad which was served cold and had really good dressing. For dinner, my boyfriend had the steak frites, which he loved. I had a 14 oz ribeye with Gorgonzola cheese sauce on top and a sweet potato purée. Best meal I've had in Columbia in while. For dessert, boyfriend had an Irish coffee and a salted caramel gelato, which was to die for. I had a piece of tiramisu that was light, fluffy, and delicious. We will definitely be back.
