Diner Reviews
  • "2nd time in one week. Consistently very good. I would recommend it for anyone with demanding taste."

  • "My wife says we have eaten at Saluda's BC, before kids. I do not recall that. I enjoyed my meal, this time, and the overall atmosphere tremendously, this time!"

  • "Had not been to Saluda's for quite awhile. My loss. Beautiful restaurant, excellent service. Menu was varied and well done. Plan to go back more often."

  • "Columbia SC has a number of higher end restaurants, which vie for pole position as the best in the city. Some are new, some have been a staple for years - sadly in this critic's opinion, with the occasional single meal exception, they are at best Good when compared to the selection offered by Charleston. Saluda's may be the exception, but this was my first meal there, and I will know more following dinner there on Friday, with two "foody" friends from NY."

  • "Very impressed with the service and selection of original foods. Preparation and presentation was exceptional. Best dinner we have had in Columbia. Sure to return again soon."

  • "My wife and I love visiting Saluda's, especially when the weather allows us to sit out on the second story patio overlooking the Five Points fountain. Their specials are incredible, but I've found their Sweet Tea Brined Pork Chop to be my personal favorite. Looking forward to our next trip already!"

  • "We've been to Saluda's a number of times and it has never disappointed. The menu has something for everyone. The sweet tea brined pork chop is amazing, the filet mignon is fork tender, and the dessert list always has something I can't resist. We love sitting on the outdoor balcony. It can be a bit noisy due to street noise, but is lovely in nice weather. While this can be a bit on the pricey side, there are often deals to be found online."

  • "Had a delicious dinner and impeccable service. Will definitely go again."

  • "I think the food could have been more for my daughter. For the price we paid she did not get enough on her plate. She had the scallops and shrimps with rice. I had the shrimp & grits and on my place it was more gravy than grits. The gravy will drown the girts but there was not enough grits on the plate to begin with. Also, the lighting was too low for a restaurant at night. In the day, the lighting was great but at night it needs to be brighten a little. Just a little. The food itself was excellent, please give my complements to the chef."

  • "The location is great for a wonderful dinner, the service was good, however, I found the food disappointing."

  • "my husband and i love this place ! groupon introduced us to this place and its one of our favorites now! a great date night/celebration place. food has been excellent every time! atmosphere is also great. recommend it all the time to friends."

  • "We enjoyed delicious crab cakes, lobster bisque, and perfectly prepared filets. Every bite was delicious! Even the bread provided with garlic butter was mouth watering. The filets took some time to prepare and it was worth the wait; a perfect medium filet from the first bite to the last."

  • "Saluda's has become our favorite place to have a wonderful quiet dinner. The food is always delicious and the service is some of the best in town. One of the really nice features is that you are not right on top of the people at the next table. There is plenty of room between tables so you can have actually have a nice conversation without having to strain to hear across the table."

  • "We had a nice evening the other night at Saluda's. We got a calamari appetizer which was good. My wife went with the fish dish which was stripped bass. She was skeptical but it was a pleasant surprise. I went with the crab cakes which were some of the better ones I have had. We also had the Lobster Bisque. It was very good and I also used it as a sauce for my crab cakes. Overall a good dinner. The temperature was perfect for outdoor seating. We will be back."

  • "Took my wife here to dinner for her birthday. The food and service was excellent. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. A very good atmosphere for couples dining."

  • "Excellent surf and turf combo special. Occo Bucco very tasty. Zin very good accompaniment. Buttermilk and bourbon ice cream with chocolate unusual and excellent ending to the meal. Would recommend to a friend."

  • "We went for a 34th wedding anniversary dinner. The music was great while not overpowering. The food was wonderful with good portions. Vallet parking made it special as well and to top it all off we had a great waiter."

  • "Terrific food, professional service, great ambience. Good place to talk, do business. Good bar, knowledgeable bartender. I'll return, very good experience."

  • "I absolutely love going here. Saluda's has become a tradition for special occasions, (birthdays, anniversaries, date night) over the past few years. The staff is outstanding, very nice clean atmosphere, quiet enough to hear the person across from you but loud enough you cant hear the next table's conversation. I love coming here and have already encouraged family and friends to give it a shot. The food is amazing and the wine/bar selection is great."

  • "We were not impressed with the menu nor food. After hearing that this was one of the best restaurants in the Columbia Area, we decided to try it. We have yet to discover what the excitement was about."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "My only complaint about this excellent dinner was that we had a Groupon on which the wording clearly stated, "$140 to be used for dinner for 4"--nothing about dollar limit on item prices or choosing from a specific group of dishes. However, our waiter told us that we were allowed only two appetizers for the table and no entrees over $29 ($28?) unless we wanted to pay the difference. Our guests had recently bought a different Groupon for the same restaurant and they said their Groupon DOES specify a particular menu and choice of dollar amounts for dishes. I think we were given a different deal than the one listed on our coupon, and that affected what we ordered. I had carefully read the Groupon; we were NOT given the deal we bought."

  • "We dined on a Sunday night and it was perfrct for outdoor dining. The wine and food were delicious! Bring a hearty apetite as the portions are graceous! Service was superb, we definitely received personalized attention. The dining experience at Saluda's is definitley a memorable experience. We will definitely be back to enjoy the experience again."

  • "The food was wonderful. We ordered a nice bottle of wine. We took our daughter here to celebrate her 22nd birthday. The only thing that bothered us at all was they didn't offer our daughter a free dessert. We were a party of four and spend in excess of $200. The cupcake size chocolate cake with a scoop of icecream should have been complimentary."

  • "This was our first time at Saluda's. My husband and I both liked the crab cake appetizer, even though it was a little spicier than most crab cakes I've had, with a slight Asian flavor. My husband had the sweet tea pork chop and was pleasantly surprised in the portion size and taste. I had the shrimp and scallops, and I couldn't eat all of it. Great leftovers! The scallops were huge and the entire dish had just enough spice. Yummy! We enjoyed the wine and the dimly lit atmosphere. We got there at 6:30. The front room was full, but we didn't have to wait long on the food. too full for dessert, but maybe next time."

  • "My husband and I are repeat customers. We always look forward to the barbecue fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Service was outstanding as usual, and the food was excellent."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "The food was good, the serve was very good and the ambiance was great. However, our food (four of us) came at room temperature. Typically I would have sent it back but with friends that we had not seen for a while I didn't want to do that. However, when back in the car everyone agreed that the food was tasty but was served at room temp. That was not anything any of us expected and what could have been a very good meal was just mediocre."

  • "The food was awesome and our server was awesome. Even though it felt great outside, we decided to sit inside next to the window so we still had a great view."

  • "Saludas was great, the food was fantastic, the servers were very helpful, and the portions fit the price tag. My wife and i will definitely be returning to Saludas, with a couple of our friends."

  • "Went there few months earlier and it was simply outstanding: Carpet-bagger steak and sweet tea brined pork chop were great. This time: appetizer was okay... kind of small but that's not an issue. Entrees were good: Osso Buco (lamb) was ridiculously tender and flavorful. Duck breast was medium rare and quite chewy."

  • "In the middle of downtown Columbia and the nightlife, this restaurant has a great romantic feel and nice views from the large windows. Food was great, service was better. Perfectly cooked filet."

  • "Valentine's Day slipped up on us, and we forgot to make reservations somewhere. We lucked out funding a reservation open at Saluda's. We'd never been, and I am so glad we tried it. Our meal was fabulous, and the service was impeccable. Our server, Brandon, was wonderful and efficient. We definitely cannot wait to go back and explore the menu."

  • "Very good food. Quiet and professional atmosphere. Knowledgeable server. Expensive."

  • "This was the second time I've tried Saluda's. The staff is friendly and the service has been good both times. However, I was disappointed with the food both times. The first time, I had a steak and it was mostly fat and inedible. This time, I tried the pork chop. It was completely uncooked in the middle. I didn't call it to the attention of the waitress mainly because it was too dark at the table to tell for sure. The light above our table was out. So, I chose to take it as a leftover. When I got it home, I could see that the meat was completely raw in the middle. I have no problem with the staff, or even the atmosphere but for the price of this place, much better food can be had elsewhere."

  • "Our first visit was on Valentines day. We were seated promptly (with a reservation) and the ambiance was very nice. Tables were generously sized and located far enough apart that you were not eating with the neighboring tables, which seems to happen so often. Dinner was a fixed price menu for Valentines Day, but there were plenty of options. Our daughter has severe gluten intolerance and they were very accommodating-checking with the chef to be certain there were no issues with the dishes she selected, and modifying them if needed. None of the desserts were gluten free, so they made a special dessert for her that was."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Food was mediocre at best. The Valentine's special was a 3-course meal; none other was offered. They can do better."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Desserts were not up to par. Cheesecake and blueberry crumble cake not real good."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Not everyone cares to have an after valentine special on the 15th. A pairs down menu with fixed price offering is not something most people would like. Also the food felt left over from the day before. The atmosphere seemed hurried the food was served at a fast pace and the staff was eager to get u out of the door."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We dined at Saluda the day after Valentine's, and even though the menu was preset, there was plenty to choose from and something for every taste. I had the porkchop and it was cooked perfectly and very tender and tasty. I also enjoyed the blue cheese slaw. I'm not a big mashed potato fan, but they complimented the pork well. The service was great. The seating is tight because the dining area is small, but done so well, that you feel you are having your own dining experience."

  • "I made a reservation here a couple weeks early for Valentine's dinner, which was our 3rd visit to Saluda's. The problem I had with this meal was that I was never notified that they were doing a prix fixe menu for Valentine's day. Only when we were sat did we learn that it was $49/person, for an appetizer, entree, and dessert from a limited menu. We were hungry and I didn't want to make a fuss, so we stayed and ate. But after adding a glass of wine each, tax, and tip, the bill was $150. The meal was good, but definitely not worth that much. Had we known beforehand, we may have gone elsewhere. For any special dates, ask in advance about menu, pricing, and their vouchers/coupon policy (they didn't accept any that night)."
