Diner Reviews
  • "The menu was filled with wonderful choices! The service was impeccable! Very willing to work out any and all substitutions...making the menu as easy to order from then anywhere around! I recommend the Lobster! Can not wait to come back for more!"

  • "This is the second time I have been here for sunday brunch. This time I came a little earlier to beat the crowd and was pleasantly surprised. The food was just as delicious but there was a lot less people here. I don't have a lot to say other than I would recommend this buffet to anyone that was looking for something to remember. "

  • "Service was prompt. The food was excellent. Great view of the setting sun over the Columbia River. A pleasant experience."

  • "I've been several times before but I had business (3) associates in from Nevada. You certainly did me proud for having reccommended dinner there. I hope I'm not taking your great food for granted as it's always superb but they raved about all through dinner and for several days after."

  • "We were so pleased with the service we received from the moment we were greeted at the door to the moment we paid our bill. Such a very friendly atmosphere and seemed very cheery. Great dinner, will be back."

  • "A must try! Even for those that are picky eaters, you will be amazed - thank you Salty's"

  • "Excellent variety, particularly for seafood lovers. Food very good. Few things were truly outstanding - but very good for a buffet. Kept items well-stocked. Service was excellent! We sat on the deck on a beautiful morning, which was perfect for us and offered a great view. Inside on the lower level, where the buffet actually is, seemed quiet crowded and some people were sitting right on the path to the buffet. I would not have enjoyed that, especially for the price you are paying for the experience."

  • "My dining experience was SUPERB! The food was outstanding - I mean every single thing - even the eggs were amazing, the ham was so very good - I took a bite and returned for an additional piece. The pasta/omelet area was phenomenal. The shrimp and crab were spectacular - the mimosas were exquisite. I was celebrating my birthday and the plan is to be there again for my birthday and other times throughout the year. Absolutely fantastic!"

  • "Dinner before Cirque Du Soleil was terrific. Our waiter was so great with our two granddaughters ages 11 and 14 and their 13 year old friend. He made them feel special. There were seven of us and everyone's food was wonderful and the service was the best. A 20% tip was automatically added since we were such a large table but we left an additional tip because our waiter was so great. The view of the river is really so nice, too."

  • "very unpleasant experience with all aspects of our evening, from our checking in to our table for 5 was a booth with no support in the cushions. one piece of fish with my fish and chips. over all we are sorry that we wasted our time and money at your place."

  • "Very nice venue overlooking the Columbia river. Food was very good but not quite great. Most staff very helpful and friendly.... exception was the Maitre'd. She had no clue how to be a hostess - ignoring most arrivals on a busy night. I had to stand at the desk and watch while she did something on the computer until I interrupted after 5 minutes. All in all a pleasant meal, though."

  • "Our dinner at Salty's was great. The staff were very frendly and just thr right amount of attention. The seafood was very good and pleasant atmosphere. Good wine list, nice selection of deserts, I would definitlely go back."

  • "exceptional service with a River view. great for dates and small groups. Took friends from AZ, we could hear eachother well in a popular restaurant and had the best service!"

  • "We went there for one reason, fresh oysters, which we could have gotten without getting in our car and driving, but you were out of them and that is not right as the advertising we read said that was a main feature, so you dropped the ball. We came there, rather than the closer places, because you were water side and that was nice, but when the oysters weren't there, we did not like feel like being there either, food was okay, soup was way too thick and I could have made better from a can. FYI, soups should not be served cold and clumpy, they should be served hot and smooth, they can be rich if done right, but your was simply over cooked, thick soup, yuck."

  • "Parking was a bit tight and getting to our table was a bit hectic, but with any popular eatery, I guess that's to be expected. The servers and chefs were friendly and helpful. The breadth of options was impressive, as was the actual food itself. Top notch! The only things that could be improved is the dress code. The clientele is quite diverse. There were people in their Sunday best as well as customers in sweat pants with their hairy guts sticking out. Be warned. You may go to take a bite of your fruit crepe and look up to find, and smell, a four hundred pound mouth breather staring and drooling, in your direction, like you're piece of prime rib. That can be a real turn off and stomach churner."

  • "This is one of our favorite places when in Portland for fresh seafood. Love the dungeness crab and fresh oysters! The seafood tower is awesome!!!"

  • "Love the location and food! Great spot when the weather is nice to enjoy the view of the water! Great fresh seafood and excellent service!"

  • "Salty's is consistent and predictable. If you walk in expecting high prices, few menu choices and mediocre service then you can relax and enjoy the view. Garlic seems to be the specialty: everything except the wine and the dessert is laced copiously. On the other hand, the food presentation is always pristine. The lobster tail, for example, is presented very appetizingly so as to detract from the fact that it was over-cooked."

  • "4 meals, either very poor quality or inedible. Out of clams and mussels, last lobster, soft shell crab tiny and overly sauced. Clam chowder tasted like a salt shaker had tipped in it and tasted burnt."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "View is awesome. Wine, salad and bread were great. Crab Cakes superb! Both the grilled salmon and the plank salmon were, on scale of 1 to 10, about a 5."

  • "We have gotten into a habit of taking out of town guests to Salty's because of the consistently good food and service. Additionally, a table on the river is amazing and really gives our guests a taste of Portland's water culture. The fish is always fresh and perfectly prepared. We will return!"

  • "Service started out great (hostesses and bartender were perfect) but the service of the server declined as the meal progressed. I understand they don't want to rush you, but I would have liked a glass of wine or some more water at least. I'll probably go back but for the price, the service should be much better."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Awesome view and good menu. The meal was quite tasty. The evening would have been a lot better without the very loud table close by. They seemed to be oblivious to anyone else around and it took away from a romantic evening. We did get some oysters on the half shell and they were great except a bit of shell in one which they quickly replaced. The only problem was the replacement also had bits of shell. We choose not to mention it a second time."

  • "We'd never gone to Salty's on the Columbia, but since it was PDX Dining Month and they were participating - we went! We had the PDX prix fixe diner plus the seafood chowder. The chowder was just the way we like it thick and creamy. The halibut / salmon skewer on charbroiled romaine was fantastic. The entree was stuffed trout on roasted fingerling potatoes covered in a dill sauce which we loved. Dessert was an Asian pear flam that topped off a great dinner. We wasted everything down with a nice Riesling - after all everything goes with Riesling. We'll be back for Happy Hour on the deck later this spring and summer. Bon Appétit!"

  • "The manager was amazing. I took my boyfriend Eric there for his birthday. Turns out they have the same birthday. Just so amazing the level of treatment. Jack our waiter was attentive and most importantly Eric had and amazing time and treated like royalty. Thank you so much for a memorable experience."

  • "My wife and I travel to Portland every three months. the first stop we make is at Salty's, it is always excellent. the staff and hostesses greet us at the door, we are seated quickly, with a view of the river. food is always great, it is a real treat."

  • "Food was very good. I am allergic to shell fish so I did not have any. Their was still more than enough other things to keep me happy. The prime rib was amazing. The servers and hosts were observant and polite. We were very happy to have celebrated my wife's birthday there. Thank you for making her birthday great."

  • "Our group of nine tremendously enjoyed the restaurant and food. The service was slow at the beginning as we didn't get orders in for maybe half an hour? This was not a problem for our group as we were friends enjoying each other's company, but might be a problem for a smaller group. The food was tasty and perfectly prepared and presented. The service was quite good with plates for all the diners coming out at the same time. We had salmon/halibut skewers over grilled romaine lettuce to start. It was perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. The main course and desert were also just perfect. I would like to return and share this restaurant with other friends."

  • "We have gone to Saltys for brunch for many years. It has always been a wonderful experience and they have always had a choice of food for any persons tastes, likes and dislikes. We recommend it to all of our friends in town and out of town."

  • "The food was amazing. Delicious! The view was fantastic, we watched the sun set over the Columbia. The staff was VERY accommodating, They went out of their way to find us a window table for our special evening. Thank you. :)"

  • "This was our first time at Salty's and we were excited to finally dine here. They were running a little behind on reservation times but the hostess kept us up to date and found us a window seat - the view and atmosphere was perfect. Since it was Portland Dining Month we went with the 3 courses for $29 which included a Salmon/Halibut Brochette for an appetizer, Smoked Trout with herbs for the entree and Pear Flan for desert. We were sadly quite disappointed in the flavor of the app. and entree as both were quite bland. Granted it was a discounted meal but we were still expecting more. Other dishes coming out looked amazing so maybe the meal just wasn't meant to be. Will definitely go again but will order off main menu."

  • "not my taste in brunch, felt it was highly overpriced for the quality, quantity and selection......took our reservation for 1:30 without making us aware the brunch ended at 2...quite a disappointment....they should not make reservation within an hour of shut down of the brunch"
