Diner Reviews
  • "We were most impressed with the food at Salt Water Grille. The barbecued oysters were prepared as well as any we've ever had, and the Redfish snapper were perfectly prepared as well. The service was a little cool, and not sure if the waitress was having a bad night, but she could have perked up a bit. Overall, great place for seafood and a great value."

  • "We went here for a romantic birthday dinner and it was wonderful. The staff is friendly, food is well prepared, and drinks were superb. I recommend the crème brulee!"

  • "We have dined here numerous times. I am not sure we would dine again as there as there are so many other options in the area. It is very loud and hard to talk to the person across from you if it is busy. My food arrived cold and had to send it back. We probably would not actually recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's just ok place if others are booked. I find it has a limited menu. It does have a great location which is right across from The Grand so when there is a show it is convenient but expect it crowded and loud."

  • "We were celebrating a 21st Birthday. We have dined here often and always have a great experience. Great food and service!"

  • "I don't understand why they didn't offer a kids menu. Food was way over priced didn't care for anything I had. Was the opposite of kid friendly. Will never be back. The noise level was way to loud."

  • "Very disapoointed. Strip steak had been frozen.Mediocre. Crab on asparagus had been frozen. Overpriced for quality. Too noisy."

  • "I can't write what I want because of the limit restrictions. But the management of this restaurant is a disgrace. He knew there was a problem with our meal and was only a few feet from us and not once did he come over to our table!!! REALLY!!! You can email me for a more detailed review. You can even call me on the number that I gave on the original reservation. I own a restaurant and this is NOT the way to run one."

  • "Great selection of Gulf seafood and great service."

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant during Mardi Gras. It was very close to celebration areas but we were still able to park. The ambience is very nice and quiet though the bar area was quite busy. Our waiter was great! Pleasant and helpful with the menu options. The food was fresh and tasty! Overall a great choice! Loved the apple cider salad! Shrimp were perfect and super fresh."

  • "Pretty lackluster for the price, I would not go back."

  • "It is a great place to dine at before or after attending the performance at the Grand 1894 Opera House. We are always seated immediately and given great service and not rushed. The wait staff is excellent and the greeter at the door is a jewel both arriving and departing. It puts you in a great mood before the show starts."

  • "When in Galveston - you eat seafood! Two of our four wanted crab cakes - they came as 'Starters' but were so filling and tasty they were perfect as their entree! The Tuna salad sandwich was fresh and hearty and the soup-of-the-day that came with it - Lobster Bisque - WOW! It was smooth, rich with HUGE chunks of lobster - best ever! Final person got Pot Stickers Starter and bowl (huge bowl!) of their crab and corn chowder...perfect lunch! Service was friendly, attentive and professional which is especially nice for first time diners at lunch time, no less! Felt like it was a local's favorite and we were treated so nice - we felt like locals! Well worth our time and money! Will definitely return!"

  • "My wife and I wanted to try something new (to us) and couldn't be happier with our choice. The rue for the gumbo rivals anything we've had in new Orleans, the crab cakes were outstanding and the barbeque oysters are beyond words. Our fish was fresh with perfect sauces and the service was top notch. We have a new favorite seafood restaurant in Galveston."

  • "It looked like a family owned busines. I didn't like that I couldn't substitute one seafood for another. Restaurants in Houston ie Pappadeuxs hve no problem in doing so. Everything was just a "NO" food was good."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Service staff was wonderful. Tomato basil bisque was good, grilled shrimp was good (the bbq sauce was not good, however) and the three cheese potatoes we substituted for grits were very good. My friend had bbq redfish and it was overcooked on the bottom and the bbq sauce needs a lot of work. The dessert was fantastic."

  • "Service was excellent and the server was very very helpful. It was a little noisy that night, but there were several extra large parties That did not seem to affect or slow down service . This was our first visit but it will not be our last,"

  • "The food was excellent as always. Also the bartender made a fine martini!"

  • "I am completely gluten intolerant. Our waiter made sure that everything he served was completely safe for me and he did it with a smile! It was wonderful and I enjoyed it completely."

  • "Lovely fresh seafood although we were disappointed that Alaskan king crab was substituted for the local crab indicated on the menu as this is what we were at the restaurant for. We should have been advised of this change to the menu at the time it was ordered. Service was very friendly, although a bit rushed. Our wine bottle was removed from the table without being entirely finished."

  • "We enjoyed the Restaurant Week fish ponchatrain special and I have to say, though, not having the bread pudding as the dessert choice was a huge disappointment but the Italian Cream Cake was excellent! Your bread is awesome also! $25 special for 3 course meal was the original reason for dining here rather than Rudy & Paco's. And this is the 3rd year dining here for their special!"

  • "Food and service were great until our food got cold, our table was in the doorway that always had a cold wind when anybody went in or out of the restaurant. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone until they rearrange their tables."

  • "Went for anniversary. good food, stimulating atmosphere; not necessarily romantic however. Parking a challenge and reservations recommended."

  • "The food here is very good. But on the Saturday night that we ate there is was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation. Also the waiter was a bit absentee. I would come back but not on another busy night."

  • "I went with a large group (15) for Galveston restaurant week, and I was very pleased with my experience. All of the food was delicious (I had the potstickers, catfish, and bread pudding), and the service was great."

  • "Great Food, Great Service, Great Location. Did I mention it was Great?"
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "I had requested a quiet table in the reservation. We were seated 2 tables from the noisy grill area where all the meals are prepared. The dark roux gumbo we prefer had been thickened too heavy. The crab cakes were bland and the asparagus appetizer was crispy but on the edge of being burned, topped with crab meat but no dipping sauce served. Would not dine here again."
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "The salad I had was excellent, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was good. I was just expecting the atmosphere to be a little more elegant. The restaurant was not crowded but very loud."

  • "Everything was great. We both had the off the menu features. I had the Ribeye and she had the salmon."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "I've never eaten anything here that wasn't delicious. We had the bone-in ribeye special last week. We were delighted with the plum sauce that accompanied it. One in our party had fish dish that he enjoyed. If you have room for dessert , order the crime brûlée. You won't be sorry."

  • "The restaurant is located across the street from the historic Grand Opera House where we were going that evening. Made reservations for the first time and had a great dining experience. Food was great, service was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Don't know why we hadn't eaten there before but definitely going back!"

  • "We chose this restaurant based on reviews and it didn't disappoint. We dined at 6:30 on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Despite that the service was prompt and we were served our food orders with no delays. Great fish dishes and my apple strudel I had for desert was exceptional. Very enjoyable and would visit again."
