It is a favorite place just for the two of us also.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial night!Beaufort has several restaurants offering extraordinary cuisine, and Saltus is definitely among the top 3...in my book definitely in the top 2 (tied for #1). The well-trained staff (much friendlier and responsive than a couple of years ago), sophisticated decor and waterside setting create a special atmosphere.... add in the live jazz at the recent wine dinner where food and music were spectacular… yes, it was an exceptional evening in a town and a restaurant that can make any night special.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodGreat food, atmosphere and professional staff. If the weather permits, outside seating has a nice view. Go anytime you are in Beaufort!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous restaurant, fabulous foodIf I owned a restaurant, I would want it to look just like Saltus River. Combine that with a beautiful outdoor area on Beaufort's waterfront and fabulous food and you have a real winner. The service was perfect as well. I would return many times.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern stylish cuisineThe Saltus experience begins and ends with Southern hospitality showcased in a uniquely modern and tasteful style. The comfort of excellent service, stunning surroundings, and the food that makes the South a dining pleasure destination is combined to make any evening truly memorable. True artistry in the kitchen using fresh local foods is presented as a gift to the palate, along with a vast array of libations. Dessert is a must, so save room. Special occasion or just because you know it's so good to go there, enjoy a night at Saltus!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLow country fine diningExcellent beet salad, fried oysters, grilled caesar salad, scallops on risotto with peas, and adequate wine list4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSomething SpecialMy husband and I had a lovely first time dinner. We dined early so I can't say anything about the Bar Scene or the Late Night. We did not peruse the wine menu so I cannot speak about that. I would not take children here as the menu is quite unsuitable for most kids. I loved the food-we were really taken with the creamy corn grits, best ever! Every dish is expertedly prepared fromo the freshest ingredients, peas and pea tendrils were a large part of a Spring Menu-just wonderful. Our waitress was very competent, accommodating and fun. We finished on the patio with a cup of cappucino watching the sunset, perfect evening.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFine menu, food fresh andFine menu, food fresh and well-prepared, waitress was exceptional.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't miss seafood!Had a business dinner there last Saturday night, and the food was so good, I took another group there Sunday night! I know seafood, and the in-season soft shell crabs were the best I've ever had. Very large, fried to perfection, and paired with an off the wall, but perfect, cold new potato salad with pickled ramps, ramp oil, and mustard seed. Most either had this or the shrimp and grits, also a winner! 7 of the 8 folks with me were Europeans who've traveled the world, and they were impressed as well.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe thoroughly enjoyed ourWe thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will be back again4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe requested a table withWe requested a table with a view and were given the perfect one. If you like a quiet dining atmosphere, I recommend early reservations. Our server was perfect- friendly, helpful, and attentive. We had the sweet and sour salmon, the scallops, and the New York strip from the grill. All were yummy and cooked just right. We look forward to going back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the Best in Beaufort!I had one of the "Chef Specialties", the grouper, and it was fabulous! My wife had the shrimp and grits, which she said was delicious, and our server, I believe his name was Ryan, was exceptional. All in all, a great experience . We also had a drink and sushi on the deck, overlooking the river! T4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was very good. TableService was very good. Table a litle dark. Foof great.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWell worth the priceWe had an excellent meal. The heated caeser salad was one of the best I have ever had as was the california sushi. The view of the waterfront is always an extra bonus.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall perfect experience.Overall perfect experience. Wonderful soft shell crab.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThird tripThis was our third time eating here. Service very good, food was ok. I had salmon which was pretty raw. I understand that is the proper way to prepare it but I don't like my fish raw and wish I had been warned. Also the place was very noisy not very romantic for us. Try it though it maybe ok for you4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSavannah's Best! For us, this is probably the best restaurant in Beaufort SC. The servers are all very attentive, cheerful and informative about the menu. There were so many good things on offer, it was hard to choose what to eat! The food was very good indeed and the wine excellent, chosen from a very adequate wine list. Our martini cocktails were amazing! Well done, Saltus; you gave us an excellent evening and we will be sure to return and recommend you highly to our friends visiting Savannah.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI have to say that was byI have to say that was by far the best dinner I have had in ages. The price was a little up there, but I have paid more at places and the food wasn't as good. Definitely will be back!!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe'll be back!Delicious fish & shrimp dishes--- and we all loved the yummy grits! Thanks!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGive it a BGreat oysters. Very nice fresh fish. Nice wine choices. Service lacking.
Overall good experience but there may be better choices within walking distance.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent on all counts. FoodExcellent on all counts. Food was delicious, imaginative, but not over the top eccentric. Good variety of wines. Service was courteous, friendly, helpful - but not intrusive. We were particularly impressed with staff who thoughtfully showed us to seating where we were best able to hear.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the evening tremendouslyWe enjoyed the evening tremendously. Service was good and food was excellent, made from fresh produce and perfectly sized portions. The restaurant was quite loud however, which in and of itself was not a problem, but for our elderly guests who wear hearing aides it made it very difficult for them to participate in the conversation.
Somewhat of an issue was the table arrangement - we were five people, and the table was set up as two smaller rectangular (not square) tables that had been pushed together. Thus for the person who sat alone on the side where the tables were pushed together - they had to either sit 'in the crack' where the two tables met or to the side at the end of one table, which made for an awkward seating arrangement.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe wait staff was friendlyThe wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was incredible- from the soft yeasty roll with the yummy salty compound butter right through all the courses I got to try as our party of five passed out bites! The sushi rivals that of the truly good sushi bars in Atlanta. The crab bisque was smooth and flavorful. I ordered the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection- trimmed and seasoned so every bite was pure pleasure. The spinach and onions side was the only thing I would not order again- the stems were left on and it was not up to par with the rest of the dishes. Overall- excellent meal- I will go back!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual great food, greatAs usual great food, great service - one of our favorites!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I sat at an outsideMy wife and I sat at an outside table to enjoy a wonderful sunset view over the water next to the fire pit. Very nice. The clam chowder, fried shrimp, and fried local oysters were the best we ever had! The waitress was very helpful finding the right wines for us to have with our meals. We'd go again in a heartbeat.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
