We had intended to try this restaurant for a number of years having heard good things about it. We went for an early pre- theater dinner, and found the restaurant dining room filled with families with small children. The energetic sound level was more gradeschool cafeteria than happy diners. No matter but made a note to try again at a later hour. Appetizers were good - a flavorful lobster bisque and a pear salad with goat cheese filled pastry. Mains arrived whole still having our starters. Steak with coffee rub and crab cake were well prepared when they were brought back a nanosecond after our apps were cleared. In and out in 60 minutes - the place turns tables like an Appleby's.

Went to dinner before a show in Red Bank. Don't understand why we couldn't get a reservation for 6;00 instead of 5:30 since there were plenty of open tables. This was our first time at the Rumson Salt Creek and we were very pleased with the location on the river. We had the mahi and a rib-eye. Both meals were solid, not spectacular, but they met our expectations. The server was very efficient which added to the evening. The Rumson Salt Creek is definitely better than the Princeton location. We would definitely return.

Although the ambiance was lively and classy, we were disappointed in the quality of both the food and the wine. We ordered shrimp risotta and there was very little shrimp in it plus the risotta was very oily - overly so. The proseco was not of good quality and the minestrone soup had very little flavor. We would not recommend this restaurant.

We enjoyed the Sunday brunch food but the noise level in the restaurant was far too loud and it made it difficult to even carry on a nice conversation at our table. We had guests at our table from out of country and it was disappointing that we had to work hard to talk over some very loud children and a generally high noise level in our seating area.

From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were special. I had mentioned in my online reservation request that it was our anniversary and if they could place us at a window table. The hostess and the young lady that seated us both wished us a happy anniversary. We had a table with a view. Our server, Robert, was a true professional. He was attentive without being overbearing. I had went outside for a cigarette before our entrees arrived and Robert actually came outside to politely let me know that my meal had arrived...WOW! What service. The prices on the menu might scare some people, but believe me, the food is worth the price. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and everything was delicious.

On past visits this restaurant was notorious for severely undercooked vegetables. However, that wasn't a problem on this visit. Chocolate souffle remains outstanding. However, the warm chocolate cake on the regular dessert menu is cheaper and not far behind. I enjoyed my grilled pork chop. However, a little more mesquite and a little less salt (no doubt due to brining) would have been welcome.

We were fortunate to have a table by the window since we had an early reservation. Server was helpful and developed a good rapport. Food was good. We had the tuna stack, calamari, sliders, crabcake appetizers, goat cheese dip. All enjoyed them. For entrees we had the strogganoff, coconut crusted grouper, tilapia special and three other entrees. Each of us enjoyed the meal, serving sizes were good, presentation good. The chocolate souffle was great, nice and warm and tasty.

Everything was great for a dining experience and the steaks were the best I've had in Jersey although it doesnt compare to the quality steak houses of NYC. The steak portions were small. I would of liked to see a Peter Lugers style porterhouse on the menu to really make this place distinc.

When I made the reservatio on OpenTable for our party of 4, I requested that we be seated at a window table. We arrived shortly before our scheduled time and inquired if we would get a window table. The hostess replied "No". I then mentioned that we were in no real hurry to eat and that we would get a drink and sit outside by the fire pit and wait for the next window table that became available and she said that that would not be possible; that a window table wouldn't be ready for "a long time." Disappointed that she would not even try to accomodate the request.

  • Wonderful Wine, Great Price
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 9/10/2012
The food was excellent, but what was most outstanding was the wonderful wine that we had. Our family includes wine growers in Napa so I'm pretty knowledgeable. We liked the wine so much that I'm thinking of ordering a case. Was surprised to find out that it costs more to buy from the vineyard or at my local wine store than it cost me to order a bottle at Salt Creek. My experience at other restaurants is that the wine is marked up obscenely. Thanks Salt Creek!

Having never eaten at this restaurant before we were pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the overall feel of the rstaurant was very lively and busy. We were a party of five and 3 of us ordered a salmon dish which was delicous and cooked to perfection. My sister in law who is hard to please was delighted with her chicken dish as well. Salt Creek Grille was very good. The food was outstanding. There was only one minor downfall of the evening. The service felt a little rushed. At one point our entrees came out while my girlfriend still had her salad. Even after I had asked the waitress to hold off a little before putting them in. Again, it was minor. Definitely didn't ruin the evening and we are looking forward to going back.

We've dined at Salt Creek Grille in Rumson for several years. We like the arts & craft decor and the view of the Shrewsbury River. We came Saturday night and were seated immediately. The menu changed since the last time we were there and it is more expensive. Everyone loved their food. They made up a pasta not on the menu for my son. I had the ravioli w/corn & almonds that was amazing, the flavors and textures were great. Others had the tuna sandwich, salmon and baseball-cut sirloin (my husband's favorite). The chocolate souffles were perfect. My only complaint is the sourdough garlic bread is always tough and really greasy (we preferred the bread with the flavored butters). It was very noisy but it was our best meal there.

Everything about this place was excellent. In my open table res I made a note that I had 2 kids dining with us & that we needed a highchair. When we got to the restaurant, not only was the table ready, but the highchair was all set up and there were two kids cups with water set up with the rest of our waters. It was nice to see that they actually read the note and were so accomodating for the kids. Everything else from that point on was A+++!! The atmosphere is so nice also - it has beautiful views of the navesink river.

We decided to go for lighter fare ths evening and have burgers. They were outstanding. Made with natural beef and mesquite grilled, cooked to perfection with lots of flavor on a Hawaiian bun. We got the sweet potato fries, with a $2 upcharge, which was worth every penny. Serice, as alwasys, was great. Based on their consistency, Salt Creek Grille has become our favorie restaurant in Monmouth County. Can't reommend it enough. Check out their great weekday specials! The food was quite good and the server was excellent. If anything, the food came out too quickly, not giving us enough time to sip our wine and chat, but that is not a big deal. My only negative is that the restaurant was loud- it was only 2 of us so that was not a problem, but if it had been a larger group, it would have impaired on dinner conversation.

The six of us truly enjoyed all of our meals at Salt Creek. The most outstanding dish is the mesquite romaine salad. The lettuce is smoky and combined with the cheese and dressing, it is out of this world good. The crab cakes and ribs were delicious, as was the risotto special of the night. The only disappointment was the hanger steak, which though cooked medium rare was still a little tough. We had a reservation and they took us right on time.
