Diner Reviews
  • "First time to the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The menu is modern, with a selection of Asian/American fusion dishes. Service was outstanding with lots of recommendations from our knowledgeable waiter. The ambience is nice, city-style, with a pretty wood bar. Plenty of items from which to choose, including the drink and wine menu. The wine list is small, but interesting. For example, they had an Abiouness Pinot on the list. Not many restaurants have that winery. The only thing I would like to see is a better dessert menu. This Saturday they had four, uninspired choices. Overall, an excellent dining experience. Highly recommended."

  • "My wife and I went for our anniversary. They gave us a nice private table. Our waiter Devin was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable with our wine selections and even talked us into a wine that was less expensive because it paired better with what we ordered. All of the food was great, but I'd have to credit Devin with helping guide our dining experience. Ask for him when you go there!"

  • "A great, elegant dining experience, Salt has excellent "Libations" (I had a tasty Sidecar) and some really good appetizers. The cheese board was a delicate mix of flavors. The bulgogi wraps were sweet and savory. For the main course, I had the Sweet and Spicy Shrimp with coconut rice and edamame. My fiancée had a delectable Pad Thai. For dessert, I had an amazing goat cheese and chocolate cheesecake that was complex and satisfying. Our waiter was attentive, but unobtrusive. The atmosphere was romantic and vibrant."

  • "They had removed pork belly from the menue and I was devistated. However, the lamb was an acceptable substitute. My wife had the oysters and I had the cheese plate. Both of us enjoyed them. Then I had the goat cheese salad and my wife had the Asain salad. Again both were enjoyable. My wife had the duck and I had the lamb chops, I would have enjoyed the pork belly more but we both enjoyed our choices. The Pork belly will be rotating back into the line up and we will be going back! We like the food and the service that we have received each time we have been to SALT. Try it you will like it!"

  • "Service was slow even though dining room was practically empty. Food was only average."

  • "On a whim for late lunch we tried Salt. It was perfect. Great table seating, each dish we ordered was perfect and the wait staff was very personable. All took great care of us. Heirloom tomatoes ... Yummers. Lovely Asian tastes that are not overpowering. Interesting , creative menu. Discover this secret for yourself."

  • "A good night to go to Salt is Monday. You get half off any wine on the menu. The list has too many Sav Blanc types wines for white, but you'll still be able to pull together a reasonable sample of wines. The Poke special was good and the Lobster tempura with pasta was excellent For $260, we got 3 appetizers, 3 entrée, 3 bottles of wine"

  • "I'll start out by saying it was a slow night, and Salt lacked the 'energy' that can enhance a dinner. Service was nicely paced. We started with the wine and cocktail list, with many good options. Appetizers included several interesting choices (did I notice a Bobby Huber influence?) and were very good. Entrees were a step down, and may have been because business was slow. I think, if we go back, my dinner will be an appetizer, a salad, and a bottle of wine."

  • "We booked Salt after reading the favorable reviews on Open Table. The waiter was very knowledgeable and didn't hesitate to make recommendations. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but most of all LOVED dessert! Make sure and get the Oatmeal Cream Pies! Delish!"

  • "Great for a business dinner. Bonus was that wine was half price on Tues night."

  • "We were the only sat table inside but thought the food and service were fantastic! The wine list was moderate and overall we really enjoyed dinner. A little odd that there weren't more people."

  • "We found the restaurant to be average based on other similarily priced restaurants in the area. I will say the truffle mac and cheese was great! Unfortunately, it just didn't have any "special" qualities. "

  • "What a find! We had no knowledge of this restaurant and were surprised to find the food outstanding, the service very cordial and knowledgeable and the setting quite satisfactory. Go, go, go! Try the whole fish dish. Amazing. The Cioppino was great too. Not the usual heavier broth but lighter and full of flavor. Salad was bursting with freshness like it was all just picked out of the garden right before dinner. Only hold back was the oatmeal sandwich cookie dessert. Not our favorite. Will definitely go back."

  • "Visitng Va Beach and came upon Salt through Open Table. What a great place. The food and service were outstanding. The chef has a great touch with flavors, you can taste everything but not be over powered by any one. That is a great kitchen. We had then ciopino, pad Thai, whole snapper, mussels and calamari and th oysters. Would have it all again "

  • "We chose this restaurant for a birthday dinner for our daughter, who is a chef. We reviewed the menu online, and she liked it. She always avoids chain restaurants, including big-name ones, and wanted someplace "cool" for her birthday. We picked Salt mainly because of its location (close to grandma's house) and its menu. This turned out to be an absolutely amazing place. Large portions of perfectly prepared and unusual dishes. There were 6 of us dining, and all chose something different. Every dish was wonderful. Great service, knowledgeable wait staff. We have already recommended Salt to friends."

  • "I love pork belly but discovered too much of a good thing is not so good. I think it would serve the dish better if the pork belly was served as an appetizer. We introduced friends to your restaurant. They loved it. Mark was disappointed that you sold out of the whole fish. The table next to ours got 2. MY husband has had it before."

  • "Only the 2nd time we have been to Salt and it was as good as we remembered from our first visit. Excellent food (the short ribs were perfect) and the chocolate goat cheese cake was delicious. The waiter even remembered us even though it had been a number of months since we were first there. Definitely a great neighborhood find."

  • "I have dined there 5 times now and every time has been amazing. Justin (the chef) is a master. I have not found anything there that I didn't like. His award winning Furikake Seared Ahi is to die for. The crab is obviously top of the line and the tuna is prepared perfectly. Other favorite apps are the mussels and pot stickers. Great entrees include the beef tenderloin, pork belly and salmon. Date night was a nice chance to try the place out. They have a separate menu it includes one app, 2 entrees and a dessert for $50. I just saw on their Facebook page that Justin has won another award. I can't say it enough, this guy is amazing. If you are on the fence about trying this place, you have to go, you will not be disappointed."

  • "My wife and I have dined at this restaurant over 5 times, so we finally can write a review that everyone should trust. This place is the best restaurant in Virginia Beach hands down! The service is always great with many of the servers even coming by to say hello when they are not our server that evening. The Executive Chef, Justin, has created so many tasty items that every time we go, we get something new. He is a culinary master in Hampton Roads. If I could give him a award, I would! Can't wait to go back!!!"

  • "Service was not that great, but the food was excellent. I had rockfish over black rice with brussel sprouts. Everyone else had the beef dinners and thought they were OK."

  • "This was our second trip and we will return. My wife had the Lynnhaven oysters and said they were like she remembered (plump and good), I had the Pot Stickers and enjoyed them. She had the house salad and I had the Goat cheese salad, both were very good. My wife had the Smoked Pork Belly and only gave me a small piece. I had the Lamb and I did offer her a taste. However, she declined once so I was happy to finish it off. I did enjoy the lamb but it is hard to beat a good piece of Pork Belly. We both had the Crem Brulee and I even got some ice cream which was a nice addition. Our server did a fine job and made us feel welcome."

  • "I took my fiance here for valentines day. I cant compare to other upscale restaurants as its the first i have been to but it was very classy and had a nice romantic atmosphere. They had candles lit and set the mood by giving me us a rose to take home. The food was amazing. A little pricey but well worth it considering how it was presented and how we were served. All the servers were very friendly and very knowledgable on the menu and the wine and bourbans. I would come back here again, and highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice romantic quiet place to treat their love one to dinner."

  • "First time at Salt, day after Valentines Day, 5:30pm. We ordered off their Valentines Day special menu, and had a fabulous dining experience. Sitting in the back of the restaurant, looking out over the small pond, we were by ourselves. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We had a very enjoyable dinner."

  • "Awesome from the start! We got there early thinking we would have to go to the bar while waiting..... The hostess worked her magic and got us a seat immediately.... Valentines Day evening. Double WOW! Then our waiter was just as exceptional. His recommendations hit the mark every time. The wine, appetizer, and main course all big hits. he food was to die for and the service was just as good. My wife has been telling everyone about it. I was told the I did good. (A big complement...) Thank you for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "We went to Salt the Saturday after Valentines Day and were able to get a 5:15 p.m. reservation. They had a pre made special menu which we were encouraged to take advantage of. It was nice because it limited the decisions I'd have to make, but at $58 per person it was a bit steep. They offered three relatively reasonable choices for wine, which compared to their regular wine list, was a deal at $30 for a bottle. The tuna poke was very good, as were the oysters. The rock fish was nicely presented and the custom desert was very nice. Meal, tax and tip ended costing $197 - an amount that will keep me from returning in the future, even for a special occasion."

  • "This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in the past 7 years. We found it to have an interesting menu on the budget. When we arrived, they had a Valentine's Day menu that advertised $60 per person + tax+ gratuity. When asked for their daily menu, our waiter mentioned that this was the menu for the evening. My husband and I shared our dinner and the portion wasn't satisfactory at all! We had Scallops as our main course and 4 were served! Needless to say we left hungry and ended up grabbing fast food on the way home. My co-worker paid cash and they the waitress didn't bring back change. How rude! I am sure that Salt is an amazing restaurant on a normal night, just not on Valentines day."

  • "We liked everything about our dining experience at Salt... Really good food, satisfying portions, great service, friendly staff and it's just around the corner. The prices are moderate by finer restaurant standards in VB. Salt is in a location that has struggled to keep a viable restaurant for a significant period of time. We expect that to change with Salt being there."

  • "A little disappointed in the cheese board selection, it was comprised of cheeses I can get from a local grocery store, I was hoping for cheese selection that I can't get that easily. Other than that it was great!"

  • "One of the best restaurants in Virginia Beach, Salt is the place on Mondays. Half off wine on Mondays. They also have a great Sake list and 32 bourbons if wine doesn't appeal to you. From the South Pacific fusion menu I ordered Asian chicken noodle soup & Pad Thai. The service was superb. Dinner for 2, with appetizers and entrees with a bottle of sake, 2 bottles of wine came to less than $150. Put it on the agenda for Mondays"
