Nicolas Matar, Mary Catherine Mikula and Donald Mikula, Salinas’ proprietors, have traveled extensively throughout Spain and were inspired by the country’s lively culture, music, and cuisine. They joined forces with renowned chef Luis Bollo (Mediterra in Princeton, NJ and Meigas in New York City), to create a menu highlighting classic dishes from the country’s Mediterranean coast.Continued

  • "As many have said, Salinas is a lovely setting, filled with flowers and charm. The food is good, and the reception staff is charming. On this particular evening our waiter was truly overbearing and so taken with himself that it spoiled what would have been a lovely night out with friends. Two in our party shared the paella and liked it although it did seem to take an unusually long time to make it to our table. For whatever it's worth, if your waiter happens to sport a blond bun I'd suggest requesting another table."

  • "The place is covered in floral arrangements and smells divine. Food is a bit overpriced for it's quality in my opinion. The potato side had too much mayonnaise. Loved the chicken dish and the artichoke appetizer. Will definitely come back for the ambiance and Paella for two."

  • "It was a rainy night and I was awaiting my date for a spectacular experience at Salinas. This place really is a hidden gem. The outside of the restaurant wasn't quite noticeable. It is actually quite small in width and once you walk on, it feels like an endless hallway. It was so beautiful with comfy blue chairs and dozens of roses surrounding the tables. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and came several times to ask us if we are okay. He asked us what type of water we would like, we got the sparkling which was surprisingly salty so we opted for distilled water. We ordered the croquettes, paella, and tuna ceviche. Hands down, my favorite was the paella. It was cooked to perfection and was perfect for two people."

Artichoke and goat cheese tapas selections were delectable and so was the yummy bread pudding. Not your typical restaurant fare which makes it all the better."

The place is very pretty inside (though the pics on the website make it look a lot bigger than it actually is). The food was good but the portions were quite small. I would expect that from a fancy, high range restaurant like Salinas though, so not too surprised."

  • "My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our pre-Joyce Theater dinner here. The fried artichoke and eggplant caviar appetizers were elegant and well prepared. The roasted chicken and salt-encrusted bass were also delicate and delicious. Be sure to request a little dish of coarse salt. Indispensable. The kitchen is shy about salt, but I'm perfectly comfortable seasoning with the house supply of Maldon! Manhattan pricing."

  • "Been meaning to check this place out for a while, & finally found a date that I wanted to bring. Got a Saturday night rezy & scored a table in the 'outdoor' section under the retractable roof, next to the fireplace. Space is gorgeous. Perfect for a date. We were looking fwd to the suckling pig entree, but were told they sold out! They saw our disapointment and ran to the kitchen to check and they had one left, so we got the last one of the night. it was INCREDIBLE. Super delicious. Crispy skin, tender succulent meat. Some frisee on the side made a nice bitter counterpoint to the rich pork. Man, it was GOOD. Got tuna 'ceviche' app special was great, croquette w/jamon also delicious. Sangria, also delicous. Will be back for sure."

  • "This was the best paella that I've had. IT was really flavorful, each ingredient was good just right, it was a very generous pitcher of sangria was a just the right accompaniment to the dinner. The decor is really wonderful. If you can get a table int he garden, it is pretty magical. I will be going there again."

  • "Arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and we were seated 50 minutes later. According to the manager, who was defensive, this was the fault of the previous diners who'd been at the table for 3 hours - really, you can't manage table timings! There were further hiccups with service after we sat down. We were given a complimentary drink of the restaurant's choice at the end of the night which we didn't like/drink. We all know substandard service will put a downer on the evening, regardless of the quality of the food. If this was the first time I'd been here I would not go back but as a regular diner I'll give them the benefit of the doubt."

I said, "Let's order appetizers and go somewhere else." and proceeded to whip out my phone with the OpenTable App. I booked a reservation and found a fabulous gem!!! We had an amazing meal, the bar tender was off the charts knowledgeable and helpful that we never sat at our table! I will bring back other friends and I was thrilled at our night.   • "While Salinas is a very pretty restaurant, there are some serious flaws. In three recent visits all booked for 6 p.m. The restaurant kept us waiting for at least 15 minutes because they hadn't "opened" yet. People, get it together. If you accept reservations for 6 p.m. Have the tables ready. The food is good, but the tapas can add up to a hefty price. Basically, for 3 or 4 small plates you can pay close to $100 with a glass of wine. Also food service is SLOW. It's a place worth going to, but the service and concept need work. "

  • "It's hard to believe that such a beautiful restaurant is tucked behind such a plain facade. The dining room is,filled with fragrant roses. Just liovely. Wine was very good. Paella was good, not great. But good. Dessert was excellent. Service was less attentive than I would have expected. I would go back. Be prepared. Dinner doesn't start until 6 pm, and you won' t be seated until then. Door for bar access doesn't open until 530 pm, and that's a lot of diners to crowd into a tiny bar for waiting."

  • "Very authentic Spanish food. Had the Rock Octopus - wonderful flavor, crisp and tender. Also, had the Roast Suckling Pig - best I have had since Segovia and I always try the Suckling Pig when someone offers it on the menu. The issue is the wine selection - not a great number of choices, so I rated the food lower as a result of lackluster pairing options. Dessert wine selection is also limited."

  • "Overall, a fine restaurant. We had reservations for 9:00 but still had to wait over 15 minutes to be seated. The hostess recommended we have a drink. However, the bar area was very small and we continued to be bumped and pushed as we waited to be seated. Their specialty cocktail selection was small but impressive in an interesting way. The seating area was also small but very cute and intimate. The food was good but not notable. Out of what we ordered, the chicken entree was the best. It was loud and hard to hear. Out of all the places to dine in NYC, I dont think I would recommend this one."

The wait staff at the table was rude (without realizing it), unhelpful, indifferent when telling us that items on the menu weren't available, hovering uselessly to pour beverages we'd already told them we'd rather pour for ourselves, and, worst, continually trying to take away items we were still eating. The wait staff managed to convey quite clearly that they are only concerned with themselves, not with the diners. The message was received. "

Lovely decor, great service; good roast chicken, but my fideos (the reason we selected that restaurant) was so salty that, were I not salt-tolerant, it couldn't be eaten. The salt overwhelmed the flavor. My wife pushed her portion away after one bite. Stlll, I gobbled it all down.The dessert, bread pudding, was forgettable.I only remember the citrus sorbet, which didn't add much to the pudding. Still, it was a very peasant evening, with the food component secondary. But it was a Monday, and Mondays are always chancy ... chef's night out?"
