A word from Salinas
Salinas is a unique and vibrant award-winning restaurant in the heart of West Chelsea serving the full culinary experience of Spain. Salinas specializes in contemporary Spanish cuisine, featuring regional main course dishes. Salinas was awarded a 2-star rating by the New York Times.

Nicolas Matar, Mary Catherine Mikula and Donald Mikula, Salinas’ proprietors, have traveled extensively throughout Spain and were inspired by the country’s lively culture, music, and cuisine. They joined forces with renowned chef Luis Bollo (Mediterra in Princeton, NJ and Meigas in New York City), to create a menu highlighting classic dishes from the country’s Mediterranean coast.Continued

  • "I live in Los Angeles and my son lives in New York. I made reservations at Salinas for him and 3 other friends as a gift to celebrate his 19th birthday, even though I could not be with him I wanted him to have a great evening. He is a foodie and an amazing cook, he knows good food. There was something for everyone to enjoy. They all had Such a wonderful time. Thank you for making his birthday so awesome."

  • "Food quality was far below expectations unfortunately."

  • "Beautiful interior filled with fresh flowers. The restaurant looks deceptively small from the front of the house but once you are taken back to your table you are greeted with a beautiful spacious room lit subtly through a sun roof. The food matches the beauty of the dining room. Try the jamon, octopus, artichokes and sardines."

  • "Wonderful European ambiance with nice dim lighting, candles everywhere, and attractive interior decoration. It's not cheap, but neither should it be. Excellent and unique plates of tapas, wonderful sangria, and great service."

  • "Needed a really good dining experience that would enable my friend and I to discuss some matters and catch up. We also wanted to eat well. We were ecstatic with the look of the place and from our first bite. Our waiter was helpful in recommending dishes to our tastes and would have gotten 5 stars but forgot we needed to make a curtain...which made us rush at the end of the meal, Otherwise the vege tapas dishes were truly extraordinary and the fish was perfectly prepared. This is a place to allow time to enjoy yourself and each bite you put in your mouth. Go! I hope you had as much fun as we did."

  • "As a group of 4 we were able to share all dishes- a spread of wonderfully spiced and prepared appetizers- highlighted by 2 of the Spanish "pastas" which were unique and outstanding in texture and flavor. Followed by the Red Snapper special, Suckling Pig, and a rice dish. Hard to pick our favorite, but all blended together beautifully- the crisp skin and moist delicious meat of the Pig balanced well with some of the other spicy and flavorful sauces. All in all a Creative treat that is difficult to find elsewhere. The Chef Luis is warm, friendly, interested, and appreciative of feedback. Can't wait to return!"

  • "After a heavy lunch, we were looking for something light in Chelsea. We discovered Salinas on Open Table. Tapas seemed to fit the bill. And indeed it did...and more. A romantic atmosphere, welcoming staff, and an attentive and knowledgable waiter greeted us. Five dishes: anchovies atop guacamole, cod fritters, blood sausage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts and a nice blend of red wine, reasonably priced sated us. The dessert was a bonus. We will return to our great find ."

  • "This place is so cosy and romantic. You have to give this place a try. Make reservations. The servicers and staff were very nice. The food was excellent and priced well. We ordered the 6 small plates tapas- no entrees. Food was excellent. Very good sangra as well! In the summer the back room roof opens for outside dining! A TRUE GEM! IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT IT- DO TRY!"

  • "You must try Salinas! It doesn't come off like much from the outside, but once you enter you are transported to an exotic dining experience. Tapas are a must and the paella and rice bowls are just as impressive. Do not over look the drink menu either. Everything and I mean everything on the menu to the ambiance is imaginative and creative. Wait service was spot on and attentive. There is a lot going on here culinary wise and you will be quite satisfied with your decision to dine here. Just loved it and also enjoyed meeting the owner."

  • "We liked the place, emphasis on ambience, roses, good service, but food is only "just ok".. We only had Tapas, some dishes good, artichoke one of them. Pork belly fatty, we tried 5 different tapas- maybe the entrees are better. Not much to choose from either. Feels like a younger date place, we had a group of 20 something's next to us celebrating a bridal shower."

  • "Expensive, but it is worth it! I absolutely enjoyed every moment and the food is so delicious. I will be coming back for another romantic evening."

  • "From the moment we walked in we were transported to a romantic place with candles and vases filled with long stem roses. It was a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was filled with romantic couple and groups of friends- all very pretty to see. Our hostess and server all very attentive and of course the food was delicious. We ordered the grilled octopus what a beautiful presentation with such flavor and we followed wit paella for two- it was wonderful with well seasoned chicken, chorizo, scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams -I was transported back to Spain. The restaurant did not disappoint."

  • "The bartender seemed very confused and unprofessional. I asked to close my check when we were ready to be seated and she just stood there. I said hello, ready to close and she said ok... Still did nothing. I took my drink over to the small table by the window to finish hoping she would get it and it wasn't until our table was ready did she come over and ask me to close out with her first. I needed $9 in change back but assumed she would bring without my asking, but she kept it! Then as I was leaving for the table I said excuse me was there change? She said "oh did you want it?" Wow! I have worked as a bar owner for a long time and was shocked at her audacity."

  • "This restaurant is so beautiful! Would be perfect for a special occasion. We ate here with five women and loved it but, will come back again with my hubby. Everything we ate was delicious. From the octopus and goat cheese appetizer to the paella. There is something for everyone to eat here. Will definitely come back again!"

  • "The entrance to the restaurant doesn't by any means fortell the dinner your are going to have. This restaurant is probably the best tapas restaurant I have eaten in and that includesin Spain. From the delicious tapas ( you must try the blood pudding tapa if they have it) to the larger plates, everything is delicious. If you want to splurge and can't get to Peter Luger, try their steak for two. It really is large enough for four and just as good as Luger's. Did I mention the deserts are to die for. I can go on and on but why tire you with superlatives. Get out and try it for yourself."

  • "Ever since coming back from Spain for a Vacation I've found it difficult to find some authentic tasting Tapas here in NYC but after hearing about Salinas I wanted to give it a try. The food was excellent , the service was consistent all the way around and the ambience was Amazing! I ended up ordering the Short ribs which had a texture that was so tender it was the perfect match for the 2005 Imported Rioja I had. Salinas is definitely a must if you want that Authentic tapas feeling!"

  • "My fiancé and I came here for dinner on February 22th 2013 and it was amazing. The waiter was a little pushy but overall was amazing."

  • "I love Salinas and the service is good (the food is delicious, beautiful setting, not too loud) but I always feel so rushed - like they can't wait to "turn around" the table and get the next party in. It is distracting and definitely takes away from the experience."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "I chose Salinas because it got great reviews for its romantic setting and the paella. The atmosphere was good, the service was good. The tapas and drinks were good. However the paella was burnt, the rice grains were hard and burnt. I was very disappointed in the paella."

  • "Salinas ambience was perfect, the service was top notch. Perfect for a romantic date that is not expensive at all, yet you get the feeling you're paying for it when th walk in."

  • "Took my wife for romantic dinner it did not disappoint. Romantic atmosphere and great service. Food was very good. Fried garbanzos and mushroom croquetas were the best tapas. The brandy bread pudding for desert was probably the best thing I ate. Sangria is dangerously good. Would definitely come back."

  • "Imagine walking through a field of roses, in a room awash in candlelight to a table set close by a fireplace. You have come into Salinas, a tapas restaurant with an attentive staff, very good food and one of the most romantic settings in the City. Ask to sit in the back area and bring someone you love."

  • "Amazing little Gem. All around great place in Chelsea."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "My experiences was horrific and the restaurant was extremely overrated. With an abysmal menu and terrible service ( terrible seating and mixing up of dishes), Salinas is a dining experience filled pure conjecture and hype. It is safe to say, my wife and I will not be in attendance any time in the future."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "My wife and I had a great experience at Salinas. The Service was exceptionally attentive without being intrusive. The food was great. The seating is a little tight, but I didn't feel like the tables around us were intruding on our dining experience."

  • "Fortunately, we were able to get a table here at 6pm,3 weeks out from Valentine's Day.It's a little more modern take on Spanish food, which for the most part, was really good. The place was decorated with hundreds of roses and the lighting was perfect. Starting with the Tapas, the mushroom croquette and the poached oysters were good. The modern take on the tortilla and jamon serrano were just ok. The Tortilla had guacamole on it.Both were good separately, but not together. And the jamon serrano had a strawberry jam on it, which is all you tasted. The lobster salad and the terrine next were both very good, as were the crispy duck and the pasta. Lastly, the Turbot and the Lamb. The Turbot had a nice sweet flavor to it and the Lamb was great."

  • "The food was excellent! Five Course dinner prepared by a guest chef and the ambiance of this place was amazing quiet, trendy and low-key. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed it, figure we will be back there again -when there isn't any snow covering the skylight over the dining area! Check this place out."

  • "Amazing food, great service, and delicious sangria! I've brought many friends here and no one has left disappointed. The paella and tapas are exceptional, and the sangria is top notch!"
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "Excellent food and service! Sangrias tasted like a sangria should taste. Not too fruity. Ordered 6 tapas dishes. The highlights were the prawns with that insane sauce. (My only complaint is they only give you 1 toast point for all that extra sauce. But the waiter promptly brought more toast for us after we asked). The anchovies were a perfect 2 bites. Look for the extra salt hidden under the toast. The octopus was killer. Best I ever had, and the presentation was spot on. Not much salsa verde to go w/the octopus but there was already a light marinade on it that was delicious. Also got the squid ink pasta which I always wanted to try. Did not disappoint. Briny and flavorful. Overall amazing food and ambience. Would definitely go back again."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Salinas. The grilled bread and jamón Ibérico were very good as was the shrimp tapa. For dinner with had the chicken and it was moist and flavorful. Would recommend."

  • "Food was good but a little overly salty. Service was slow, didn't get served bottle of wine until second course was served, and had to remind them for it. Scene is cool, dark, chic but cozy (fireplace on in winter)."
