Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Salacia for our anniversary dinner, and were very disappointed. Couldn't have a table by the window. Five minutes after we arrived one cleared. Waiting for one was not offered, and a request to move wasn't accommodated because "we’d gotten water”. The rest of the seating at Salacia is poor. Bring something to text with your dinner partner. We were closer to the people at the tables on either side than to each other. It provided conversation for three of us at one end of each our tables that could not hear our dinner companions. The crab cake appetizer was excellent. The remainder of the dinner was nothing remarkable. My steak was ok. My wife's salmon was overly salty. The dessert, was visually appealing, but of average taste."

  • "Wonderful dining experience for a romantic birthday dinner. Excellent service and an amazing meal! Started with oysters on the half shell, wedge salads, and the Filet Oscar style. Couldn't end the night without splitting a huge piece of cheesecake either. Delicious!"

  • "Salacia is above & beyond anything else at VA beach. The setting is beautiful & quiet w/ a dress code that prohibits the rowdy beach behavior. The food is delicious, w/ high quality steaks a standout, but equally good is a recent addition of a salt braked whole fish which was fresh, moist and quite luscious. The wine list is notable & waiters are helpful. This restaurant is a winner in all categories."

  • "It was good food not great... Server was trying to add up the bill... Asked for coffee brought 2 pressed pots ... Close quarters on seating, jerk behind us ...."

  • "Although the food was excellent (especially the creamed spinach) and the service was very good, the prices were high and we wouldn't have gone if we didn't have a $50 gift certficate to reduce the sticker shock."

  • "The food and surroundings didn't disappoint us this time either. However, the wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with the Saturday night full crowd. It took about ten minutes to get three glasses of water filled when we sat down because there were no full water pitchers. The rest of the meal it seemed like our waiter had more tables than he could handle, so service was somewhat spotty throughout our visit. Hope the service manpower shortfall will be corrected by our next visit."

  • "This was our second time dining here, the first time we were seated outside in the quite and secluded cabana's this time we were seated on the interior. Our last trip was absolutely amazing from top to bottom, wine to dessert and the wait was worth it, 2 hrs without a reservation. This time we made a reservation and they were able to take us early. We had the entire place to our selves for 90% of the meal. The food was not quite up to the high bar that was set in the past and neither was the service. There was quite a bit of time between courses and the wait staff was no where to be found. Over all still a great experience and the manager was very helpful and one of the waiters seemed to be training and not quite up to par."

  • "This was my first visit. I took my wife for Valentine's Day. Salacia was great. My wife loved it. It was perfect for special occasions."

  • "Wonderful place to go for a romantic atmosphere and the food was amazing. The portions were for the side dishes were more than expected. The amount would have fed three of us. We aren't wine drinkers, but for those who are this would be an excellent place to go. They had plenty of options. The staff was very friendly and met our expectations. We definitely recommend this place and will go again in the future."

  • "Amazing steak and seafood, extensive wine list, impeccable service, private and romantic atmosphere inside and on beachfront terrace, and fun, vibrant hotel bar to enjoy the night after dinner. Amazing experience!"

  • "I was lucky enough to get a table by a window and the view was jealously coveted by the other diners. I only wish a larger percentage of diners could enjoy the view but it is a narrow dining area. The food and service make me want to come back and try other menu items. Highly recommended!"

  • "The atmosphere was quiet and romantic, just the ticket for our anniversary. We sat at a window table that offered a beautiful view of the ocean and boardwalk. My husband had the special, filet mignon with blue crab and hollandaise sauce served with asparagus. He said it was tender, juicy and full of flavor. In short, the best he'd ever had. I don't eat meat or dairy products and knew I might have to just have a salad. However, our waiter offered a few options that he believed the chef could prepare. I chose a Portobello mushroom stacked with grilled vegetables and topped with sliced pears. I'm still dreaming about it. Absolutely delicious! A wonderful dining experience in a beautiful restaurant with excellent service."

  • "I normally don't order steaks at restaurants, but I had the petite filet. It was paired with some very interesting and flavorful sides that gave the dish so much more character and made it even more enjoyable. It was hands down the best steak I have ever had and not just another boring steak dish."

  • "Salacia was a delectable and perfect choice for our party of 5 for Restaurant Week on 16 January 2014. The portions were surprisingly robust and they had a great Cab bottle choice for $30 that was fitting for our friends - we got two bottles. Great service and the food was much better than I remember when I went the first time. Thank you Salacia."

  • "It was restaurant week in Virginia Beach so we decided to dine again at Salacia and take advantage of the special menu and pricing. We requested Errol to serve us because he is so attentive , knowledgeable and personable. Everything was perfection as always and we had a wonderful evening."

  • "A relaxed, private (12 or so tables) dinning venue with outstanding food and amazing wine list. Top choices; any beef dish (all perfectly sauced) and Lynnhaven River oysters on the half-shell. Knowledgeable and experienced wait staff who are attentive but unobtrusive. Truly a fine dining experience on the ocean in Virginia Beach."

  • "Salacia was a phenomenal experience all the way around. The food, wine, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Watching the sunset over the ocean while eating is so romantic. I highly recommend!!"

  • "An outstanding fine dining restaurant that offers something for every palate. The dining room was quiet, romantically lit and offered a nice view of the Atlantic and Virginia Beach boardwalk. The Wood Grilled Jumbo Shrimp was delicious. Steak was very good, however, I recommend you go lower on your cooking selection. I asked for medium and it was closer to medium well. It was still excellent. Salacia's offers ala carte and we ordered sauteed mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes but with the sides that came with the orders was too much food. The sides were well prepared though. Service was exceptional. The restaurant is pricey but worth it. We will definitely return and recommend to all!"

  • "I never had any dishes like this before, so it was a great experience. Never thought I would like foie gras, but I did. 5 courses for $99 was pretty expensive, but maybe because it was on New Years Eve."

  • "Food was good. Steak was great and cooked perfect. Accompanying sides with meals could have more quantity of whatever it is. I got 3 sticks of veggies and a big spoonful of mashed potatoes."

  • "GM and staff went out of their way to help me make my wife's Christmas birthday truly memorable. The service and timing were impeccable. Although I’m sure that our waiter had other customers, we were made to feel like we were his only table. The restaurant is intimate and the ambiance is romantic. This is everything a fine dining experience is supposed to be. They do not ever allow quantity to overtake quality.. As locals, it is such a treat to see it in Virginia Beach. The Yellow Fin Tuna and Swordfish are chef specialties, and are amazing. I went with every intention of trying the steak I had heard so much about. Maybe next time. :)"

  • "We went to Salacia for Christmas Dinner. The service was excellent our water couldn't have been more attentive and professional. The food was delicious - but very pricey. Oysters were $9 for 3 raw oysters. I can't understand why it costs so much to shuck 3 oysters and oysters are plentiful in Virginia Beach. The food is American, very mainstream but very well-prepared. There were just two of us dining, and the seating is not very private for two-toppers. I sat on the long, bench-row seating that lines the wall and felt that I was closer to the person sitting at the adjacent table than I was to my husband sitting across from me. It was hard to shut out their conversation, especially when the rest of the restaurant was quiet."

  • "Private and exclusive restaurant with limited seating. Superb customer derive and the food was delicious. We ordered the oysters trio to start with, my husband ordered the New York steak and I ordered the lobster and filet mignon And a side of sauté mushrooms. I can't wait to go back again!"

  • "It was excellent in the area of food, service, and quality. However, it was awfully loud and not spacious. Still, being Christmas Eve it was expected but regardless I would recommend it to anyone with heavy pockets."

  • "Dining at the Hilton Salacia for Thanksgiving was a culinary experience. The five course meal was delightfully unique, without sacrificing the traditional aspects of a holiday meal. My favorite courses were the pumpkin soup served in a mini-pumpkin sprinkled with pumpkin seeds, and the main turkey with stuffing entree. Our waiter was excellent, one of the best I have ever experienced, which is saying a lot, having lived in Europe and eaten in some of the world's finest restaurants. The Salacia provided a container to go with more of the entree, which was a nice touch, since leftovers are an important aspect of Thanksgiving. The ambiance was lovely. We had a table overlooking the ocean. The Hilton was decorated beautifully for the holidays."

  • "Our Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. The portion sizes were great! Service was awesome. The turkey platter leftovers that they gave us to go was another serving of the entree portion of our meal. It was wonderful, because I really love Thanksgiving leftovers, and was afraid by dining out I would not have any. They allowed us plenty of time between courses so we were not stuffed when we left, but very full. Perfect! I'll be there next year if they still offer leftovers!"

  • "Unfortunately, our dinner service took 2.5 hours due to slow waiter. However, the food was excellent, creative; ambiance was good, cozy, romantic but a bit dark without candles on the tables. Great wine selection."

  • "The food and our waiter was 5 stars! However we did have an issue, and after I addressed it, there was no response! This place was very pricey! Didn't expect the lack of response!"

  • "Among all the usual Tshirt shops, beach ball & noisy establishments, this hotel dinner spot was unexpected. Outstanding in every way. Only detraction is entry through a very busy/loud seafood spot and traffic directly beside the open kitchen of another hotel restaurant one unexpectedly enters a blue cool dinning room behind huge blue backed bar and cellar to find the most sedate dining experience. Another entrance would be better served. However once inside this marvelous venue overlooking the beach boardwalk, the service, food and ambiance is exceptional. Who'd expect this at the beach? Enjoyed the experience, will return and often."

  • "My wife and I faced the challenging task of entertaining our trendy son from L.A. He spends his money in some of the best places in L.A., knows the scene, and worse - watches every food show he can. Salacia delivered a contemporary meal that stood the test of L.A. Our son was duly impressed. Thank you!"

  • "Don't let them keep you inside! unless it is very chilly out! their private tables outside are worth the trouble and the wait. even on cool nights their private, above-head heaters keep your loved one warm and toasty. the food is excellent and the staff is amazing. I took my wife here for our 10 year anniversary and it was a dinner to remember!"

  • "Salacia is a complete dining experience and my husband and I always thoroughly enjoy it. I am an excellent cook so for me having great food is not enough - I want great ambiance and great service as well. Salacia never disappoints. Our server , Steven, was well versed on the menu, attentive and anticipated our needs - in other words, a Professional Waiter and provided just the kind of service that you expect when dining at this level. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable experience- We will be back"
