  • "The live Flamenco was amazing. I ordered the dates, croquetas, and Paella. All were to so delicious. This a a great place to bring friends for in intimate Monday outing or date. New favorite place!! I will be back."

  • "Terrific tapas restaurant with great quality food, and terrific service. The only downside is select dishes were needlessly very expensive. I've ordered tomatoes with Spanish vinegar and oil (literally the whole dish) and paid $18 for it. ;)"

  • "I went with co-workers this week and we sampled many of the tapas. I highly recommend: shrimp in garlic, fig wrapped in bacon, green salad and the prosciutto on bread. Everything we tried was excellent but these were the crowd favorites. Our waiter Pachito was very attentive and entertaining. I will go back on a Monday for the Flamenco show."

  • "The good news is that even though Sala moved from its original bowery location it is still owned by Mike Janetta AND they still have the best bacon wrapped dates on the PLANET!!!!"

  • "Good Spanish wines to select from & a wide range of tapas. 3 of demolished 7 plates. The wait staff knew the menu & didn't rush us. We will be back."

  • "If you're a foodie in search of a fabulous Paella in the city then grab a few friends and share! Really great with mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, and prawns! Takes about 30min for them to make. Worth the wait."

  • "The waiter and our bartender were so nice and made us feel very welcome. Nice ambience, loved the croquetes, good wine (try the Blablabla) and sangria."

  • "Wonderful restaurant! Tapas was terrific. Service was prompt and professional. Will be back soon."

  • "One of the bus boys, a short Hispanic fellow, did not know that I spoke Spanish and curse when he took my plate then asked me if I was done. I told him I was not done and he put it back down. I then heard him say 'mierda'. Not cool man."

  • "I've been to Sala One Nine a few times. The people that work there are always lovely and the food is amazingly and consistent. On Monday night there was live music which was a nice surprise."

  • "We had a girls' night out and it was a fabulous experience. The food and service were excellent! Loved it!"

  • "The fried goat cheese & bacon wrapped dates are a must. I also really enjoy the shrimp that comes out sizzling with tons of olive oil and garlic. The dishes are pretty big portions for tapas, and everything I've tried has been amazing. No complaints!"

  • "I highly recommend it. Great service, ambiance and original Spanish food."

  • "I never write reviews, but I love tapas and this was the worst food I have had. Their patatas bravas were okay. I got some shrimp toast thing that was so tasteless - it wasnt seasoned at all. We got grilled asparagus which was super oily and cost $12 (ridiculous). And they managed to serve bad fried goat cheese. I was shocked by their prices too. On top of it all they had live flamenco dancing in the bar area, which seemed cool but I could not hear my friend speaking at all - it was wayyyy too loud. Will definitely never dine here again. "

  • "The tapas at Sala One Nine are fantastic. The dates wrapped in bacon, the chorizo, and the stuffed mushrooms are fabulous. While the shrimp in garlic and oil and croquettes de jamon are not far behind. We also appreciated our server, who recommended the sherry flight as a dessert drink. Shared by 3 of us, it was a perfect ending to a great meal."

  • "Dates wrapped in bacon? Tasty and give me 3x more orders, check. There were tasty octopus dishes (soft and not rubbery), the serrano ham on crostini (a better version of bruschetta). Although super dark, so sometimes tough to see the food you eat, it was a tasty venue. Order the paella first as you sit down, it will take a while."

  • "I am a little embarrassed to admit that it took me so long to finally discover Sala One Nine. The menu is perfectly executed and each of the six selections my girlfriend and I had were delicious. The service is first rate and I highly recommend Sala One Nine. It is a charming and most romantic place to bring that very special person in your life. "

  • "The happy hour was what we came for. Thursday about 6pm, the bar was cool. Met the owner who suggested the ham and it was delicious. Thanks Michael! Gracious and friendly staff. The wine was good. We will come back. "

  • "Get the bacon wrapped date!s! Went with my wife for a date night and it delivered. Energetic yet warm room, great waiter who knew the menu cold and guided us through. Food was great and watched the next table envious that we didn't get the shrimp. Big portions for tapas. We actually cancelled a dish. Great drinks and wine list.well worth giving it a go!"

  • "Our waiter recommended the lamb appetizer. It was excellent. So was the Paella. And Save room for dessert. Chocolate cake, flan and Apple Carmel were delicious. "

  • "We arrived with a reservation on a Sunday night. The restaurant was not crowded and we were seated right away. Then we sat for 15 minutes before the waiter arrived at our table. He took our drink order and then we placed an order for paella and were told that would be a 35 minute wait. Considering we had been ignored for 15 minutes we didn't feel like waiting for 35 minutes more to get our meal so we left. Very disappointing!"

  • "We were celebrating my wife's birthday and we could not have been happier with our choice of restaurant. Both wine and tapas that were suggested by our waiter were excellent. Even though the restaurant was crowded we were not rushed and were not ignored."

  • "What's better than meeting up with old gal pals and catching up over pitchers of sangria and shared plates of deliciousness? I've never had bad service, enjoy the waiters' recommendations when we're stuck on what to order- and overall am always very happy with my experience when I leave. Must have's for me: bacon wrapped dates, ham croquettes, the fried goat cheese in honey and that absolutely delicious lamb Friends always enjoy the garlicky shrimp, patatas bravas, the duck toast- and pretty much anything else!! Enjoy!"

  • "Not as packed as boqueria up the street but still busy - the food was great, nice warm darkened room and good service! Perfect after movie spot! Was glad we tried this place instead of Zio restaurant which seemed to be high ranked on Yelp, but heard it's actually pretty dead on a Saturday!"

  • "Sala One Nine is a wonderful restaurant. The tapas style food is fantastic- both in taste and presentation- and the drinks from the bar are delicious. The staff is super friendly and inviting and the atmosphere gives a relaxed and comfortable vibe, while still feeling very upscale. I've been to Sala One Nine multiple times and have yet to be disappointed."

  • "Went here with a friend for dinner. We decided to get a tosta and paella. The toast was outstanding with marinated mushrooms on top. The paella was flavorful and a good portion for two. The service was great, the dining room was packed (always a good sign on a week night) and overall it was a delicious meal. It wasn't cheap but nothing in Manhattan is. This would be a good place for a group to go and sample a bunch of different dishes."

  • "The food was fair at best, and the waiter was aggressive and rude. He questioned the wine I choose, and suggested a bottle twice as expensive saying that the one i chose was a house wine (at $45/bottle)."

  • "The jamon was amazing. The gambas a ajillo was delicious, lamb chops in a Spanish restaurant- super yum."

  • "I made the reservations over a month prior - somehow we got stuck with the worst table in the house. My seat was CONSTANTLY getting knocked into by the service staff. The server acted like we were the biggest bother to him. HE got angry at us because he misunderstood what we ordered and had to take it back but still trying to leave the dishes so we would get charged for it. We brought in a small cupcake to sing happy birthday. We were charged $30 cake cutting fee for a SMALL CUPCAKE without giving us clean utensils/plates. I pulled the manager to the side to express my disappointment and hopefully just get an apology out of it so we would feel good about returning. He was SO rude to me and shrugged it off like he couldn't possibly care."

  • "In the mood for Tapas, don't come here. I needed so much salt to even move the needle on how bland the food was. I paid $17 for the shrimp cooked in oil and was so disappointed. I was hoping it would be something like the same dish at Shillers. Nope."

  • "First time here was on a Friday at 7PM. Place was packed. Venue has a small "front bar" and a larger "back bar." Both were full. the Sangria at $5.00 was good (could have been strong...but for $5.00 well worth it). Tapas came fast. Dates+Bacon; Octopus and and cheese stuffed peppers. All good; all good-sized tapas portions. Service was attentive - but not a place to dine with leisure. Were in/out in under an hour. Better than most Tapas places left in NYC and certainly less expensive. I would recommend it if this is the type of food you want"

  • "Extraordinary food, romantic atmosphere, delicious wine, charming and informative waiter -- I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. It was expensive for my humble budget, but well worth every penny. I highly recommend Sala for a special, romantic night and a delectable meal!!"

  • "This place is a great find. Amazing Spanish food and a very nice evening with my girlfriend. I'd recommend booking in advance because it gets so crowded."

  • "I used to consider Sala a great local tapas place and perhaps a hidden gem with those that didn't know better waiting at Boqueria down the street. However my most recent meal here after a year hiatus was not even close to the quality I remember. Standbys like bacon wrapped dates, shrimp in garlic and meatballs were still good, but a chicken special was severely lacking in flavor, the patatas bravas completely flat and the squid dish nearly inedible. In addition the noise created by a large party near our table didn't damper our evening but rather it was the waitstaffs disregard of our table once the larger group arrived. Not the hidden gem I remembered from years past"
