A word from Sakoon
Sakoon invites you to embark on an extraordinary culinary journey of India.

Nestled in downtown Mountain View, Sakoon offers diners a tantalizing blend of traditional and contemporary flavors representing multiple Indian regions. Our chefs have created dishes that borrow from the past, yet are reinvented anew with vibrancy and modern flair.

Named for the Indian word for "peace," Sakoon was designed to envelop diners in warmth and serenity. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by the image of Buddha in hand-carved wooden panels, the glow from fiber-optic chandeliers, and the shimmer of a waterfall cascading into a pool of lotus petals.

We invite you to join us for an exquisite dining experience.

Diner Reviews
  • "As other reviewers said. Good food, though we hoped it would be more exotic. Good service, comfortable interior. Overpriced for Indian, but then nearby Google pays well. We asked for 'hot' and got medium hot which is not bad, in our experience."

  • "Outstanding and delicious dishes, Ambiance and friendly service."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "Food appears to be glamorous, Ambiance is great, higene of the place is great, there is a good variety of dishes. Taste wise it does not seem to be authentic, Most of the dishes taste different then what I have eaten before, at home or outside. If I did not have their name, probably I cannot recognize a single one, except Gobhi/cauliflower (which was good)"

  • "Food is superb! Can't believe I just found out about this place a month ago. I'm telling my friends and community about it. Ambiance, food and service is excellent. We love it. Avacado jamuri is a favorite."

  • "Came to Sakoon with a group of 8 and had a great experience. Everyone liked their food, and the service was great. I had the butter chicken which was great."

  • "Sunday brunch was delicicious. A perfect place to eat before our ballet matinee. The buffet items were hot, replenished regularly and included my fave Butter Chicken. There were entrees I had not seen on an Indian Buffet before. There was also a stir fry chef preparing noodles to order. Just an overall fantastic meal. Wait staff checked regularly if everything was okay and cleared our empty plates quickly so we could return for more. We will be back!"

  • "The food was really great but sub-par service. I had made a reservation via openTable in the morning and also confirmed later in the evening before arriving, but they didn't seem to have us on the list. Also, the host didn't seem to care much or really find out if we had indeed made a reservation and she let some of the people without reservations before us until we objected and a senior guy showed up. Food was great, service was a little slow because maybe it was busy. Overall, alright experience."

  • "Just loove the food here. Dal sakoonwala and the tandoori paneer are a must try. And their deserts are"

  • "Had a dinner meeting with a local actor and chose Sakoon based on reviews I had read. The waiter first seated the 2 of us in a corner table very tight and uncomfortable, but the manager saw that I had ordered alot of dishes and promptly moved us to a table for 4 and away from a large party that was just seated! I'm glad he saw this and took action before I spoke up! Food was awesome and well presented! Loved the chicken tikki marsala, bbq shrimp, & the seabass! Try the mango smoothie for something different!"

  • "Sakoon is one of the restaurants in rotatation for the team lunch at work. The variety of food is always good and the ambienct is quite hip. Always very packed - I 've been there during weekday lunch hour. Highly recommended, never fail place."

  • "We recently had a business dinner and many of my colleagues are Indian. So we chose Sakoon for our dinner, given another Indian colleague was a big fan of it. Everything they said - nice decor, delicious food was accurate. It's basically good authentic Indian food, but instead of a bare bones setting a little nicer atmosphere. Versus other upscale decor Indian restaurants which unfortunately then somewhat de-Indianize the food to make it more Euro-like. Our large group (we were 11) was seated very comfortably at one large table. So another plus. Would definitely want to return again."

  • "I went on a weekend and the restaurant filled quickly right at noon. There were wonderful choices of appetizers, desserts, rice, and veggie and meat based curries, all delicious. They were also making meat filled burritos (not dosa). My only complaint was that the naan served at the table was cold and crisp and didn't fold over the curries well to eat by hand. I would return."

  • "I love the atmosphere and decor in Sakoon. The food is always excellent as well as the service!"
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "The ambiance is classy, the servings are generous, the selection quite large, and the quality of food outstanding. Best Indian food in the area. Not too salty, a fault of many other Indian restaurants."

  • "I found Sakoon on Open Table and chose it based on the reviews. It was hard to see Sakoon's sign at night since it is not a light-up sign and the window appears dimly lit. We were seated right away per our OpenTable reservation. We liked the fiber optic lighting in the dining room --- looked like jelly fish. Thus, the ambience was great for romantic dinners. There were also large group tables in the middle of the dining room. Because we went out as a family with kids, the lighting was too dim and we couldn't see the menu items very well at first. We liked that there wasn't a kids' menu but the kids thought that the entrees were spicy. Overall, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. (Warning for tree nut allergies: desserts contain tree nuts.)"

  • "I've dined at Sakoon several times, and I'm never disappointed with the food. However, this last visit there was loud, terrible muzak the entire evening, which grated."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Sakoon is elegant and the food and service are equal to the décor. This is not your mix and match lunch buffet Indian restaurant. This is take your date to a romantic dinner and eat an adventure."

  • "The trick is to try everything one at a time. Each dish was great served hot and fresh"

  • "What a fantastic place! Found it on Open Table and really did not know what to expect. It was a gem. Great food. Excellent service. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Will return for sure."

  • "This was my first time at this restaurant. The pictures of the food on Yelp really gave me high expectations for the food presentation. However, I learned immediately that lunch was buffet only. Although I liked my dining experience, I wish I could have ordered from the menu instead of having the buffet. I guess I will have to go back and try dinner."

  • "We recently dined at Sakoon on the occasion of my mother-in-law's birthday. There were 8 of us in total, along with two kids. The service at the restaurant was fantastic, especially in accommodating the food allergies that one of the members of our party has. The appetizers were outstanding, and were not the usual fare you see at more traditional North Indian restaurants. The entrees were good (maybe not quite as good as the appetizers), but the portion sizes were quite good, and the food overall was quite good. I would definitely go back."

  • "the food was very very tasty and came out fresh and warm. the dishes came out a little slowly unfortunately, maybe due to the fact that we were a big group. overall, a very good experience."

  • "Good for groups and couples. Nice team outing as well as family ones. Couples can have outing at the cabins as well."
    Dined on 12/28/2013
  • "We picked Sakoon randomly -- the geography was right -- and it was like hitting the lottery. The food was terrific, starting with the crab cake appetizers. I was meeting an old friend to catch up, and the ambiance was just right for chatting away while stuffing ourselves full of shared fish, chicken and veggie entrees. My favorite was the chili fish, but the tandoori cauliflower vanished quickly, too."

  • "Food and ambience are very good. It would have been a great place if the noise level is little quiet. It was so loud and frustrating. They should suggest their guests to keep the noise level low."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "What a vibrant place! It was packed with Indian families (I think my group of four were the only exceptions), and the food was served buffet style. Everything was fresh, with an amazing variety of Indian dishes. And everyone was having a great time. Plus the price was reasonable, given the high quality of the food. I'll definitely go there again in the future."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed dining at Sakoon- in addition to friendly service and delicious food, we were impressed by the reasonable prices and gorgeous decor- plus the vastness of the restaurant! I'll definitely recommend this as a beautiful, enjoyable, but not-over-the-top-expensive dinner spot to friends."

  • "We went with a team and we're not given a table I reserved for."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "Rather a high-end Indian place. Atmosphere among the best, among suburban Indian restaurants. The lounge-style seating upstairs is an especially innovative arrangement. The quality of the food is high. Extensive buffet. Bar area, which not all Indian restaurants in the Bay Area can claim to have. I think Bombay Garden is under the same ownership. Sakoon has a better atmosphere. It's perhaps a bit pricier. This is a very popular restaurant. On some days (Fridays?), making a reservation would be smart."

  • "Wonderful, authentic Indian food. Substantial variety of tastes."
    Dined on 12/8/2013
  • "Food was good, but not that good for kids. Actually everything was spicy a bit which we liked but kids couldn't eat anything. Even item like Fried Rice was spicy which was surprising. Otherwise ambience, service were all good. Would definitely go back but maybe without kids."

  • "My Kids like the special lighting, my wife and I really like the fantastic dishes! Even the mild dishes are still a bit spicy for the kids, but they still request for us to go to Sakoon."

  • "Be aware of the fact that your reservation to this place through open table may put you in an embarrassing situation. I decided to take my company executives for Diwali party and book a table for party of 7. Booking was made 4 days prior and received a conformation e-mail also. Upon arriving at the place, I was told that there is no reservation in the system. The front desk person was so rude, he lectured us about all potential issues with the system and asked us to wait for 30 minutes. He alleged us that we may have reserved a table before couple of hours only, (which was incorrect) and I have to show my e-mail as a proof. I called "Shiva's" just across the street and the lady was very helpful to get us a table right away!!"

  • "My primary reason for visiting Sakoon again and again is their food.. Amazing Indian food! One of the best tastes I have had in the bay area.. A little pricey though!"
    Dined on 10/25/2013
  • "We went here for our company lunch. the menu selection was very good. The food was not very oily or spicy. The ambience of the restaurant is good. The price is very reasonable for the choice offered."

  • "Sakoon is a blend of the old and new. We eat a lot of Indian food, mostly at the small authentic places, so Sakoon is a different dining experience. The eggplant was delicious and seemed very traditional as was the daal. But the appetizer of avocado and puffed rice and mashed potatoes was definitely a new invention, interesting and tasty but not one of my favorites. The ambiance is very modern, with cascades of lights changing colors. It was quite crowded the night we went, reservations are probably a good idea (on OpenTable of course ;-) ) It seemed rather expensive to us, but then, as mentioned previously, we mostly dine at small local spots, - unfortunately not on OpenTable :-( so it is probably not a fair comparison."
