A word from Sakoon
Sakoon invites you to embark on an extraordinary culinary journey of India.

Nestled in downtown Mountain View, Sakoon offers diners a tantalizing blend of traditional and contemporary flavors representing multiple Indian regions. Our chefs have created dishes that borrow from the past, yet are reinvented anew with vibrancy and modern flair.

Named for the Indian word for "peace," Sakoon was designed to envelop diners in warmth and serenity. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by the image of Buddha in hand-carved wooden panels, the glow from fiber-optic chandeliers, and the shimmer of a waterfall cascading into a pool of lotus petals.

We invite you to join us for an exquisite dining experience.

There was a much greater variety (and more innovative) of food than I have had seen at most bay area Indian restaurants. Nice decor, lighting. Good cocktails -- not sure I'd recommend the wineflight but everything else was good.

I booked a table to celebrate my husband's 40 th birthday with 8 of our adult friends and 5 kids. The service was excellent. The waiter was great and very friendly. He even got us an extra appetizer and a surprise dessert for my husband's birthday. They did not hurry us at all after our dinner was done and let us hang out till we were done chatting!Ah.. the dum biryani was 2 thumbs up!!

This was my first time dining at Sakoon. We are a group of 9 people and would have been nice if we were placed in the back of the restaurant where it was perhaps quieter. The restaurant manager called to confirm my reservation which was nice. There was a great variety of food at the buffet table. However, it would have been nice to know what we were eating especially for those who are not as familiar with Indian food. The front of the restaurant where we were seated was next to the bar area and so was a little louder and this made it difficult to have a conversation. Overall, we enjoyed the food and our time there. We were not pressured to leave and we spent about 2 hours there. Thanks

It was time to make my own "One-hundred Foot Journey" and dinner at Sakoon proved to be a delightful first experience. The wait staff were very helpful and attentive, the ambiance was relaxing, and the food was great. The menu included detailed descriptions of the dishes, level of hotness and key ingredients, and staff assured us they could temper the "hotness" of a dish if I wanted. I had a chicken dish, my vegetarian friend had a large variety to chose from, and all was delicious. Without a doubt, I will return to Sakoon.

This place gets the food right. We have never yet had an overcooked piece of meat, which for mixed tandoori grill is nothing short of a miracle. The food is not your usual offering, but includes many imaginative and flavorful dishes (or perhaps not imaginative but merely representative of more regions of India than is standard?). We are particularly fond of the sea bass tikka, but there are many other dishes we like as well. So many that we are still tasting our way around the menu, instead of settling on the same one or two dishes as we do at lesser restaurants. The decor is upscale, with a lot of booth seating (those along the hallway to the rear are particularly quiet). This is easily our favorite Indian restaurant in the area.

I love Indian food and have a few favorites that I go to often. We decided to try Sakoon on a Sat. night. When we arrived at 6:30 it was almost empty but by the time we left it was full and there was a line waiting outside. The wine list was good. The food was excellent and there were a few dishes I had never tried. We liked everything. The decor is not typical Indian. There are beautiful hanging lights that change color and give a nice ambiance. I would definitely recommend this place. I noticed that there are some very private larger booths in the very back where it is more quiet. Request one of those if noise is an issue for you.

Restaurant was fine and would recommend the restaurant to people. However, I would NOT recommend OPEN TABLE to make the reservations! I made reservations for lunch through the Open Table and was on time for lunch. Next day, I get a note from OPEN TABLE saying that next time I need to cancel ahead of time if I can't make the reservations and should cancel. That was fine but I was also threatened! The next time I miss a reservation and don't cancel, I will not be able to use OPEN TABLE to make reservations. Well, thank you, I will not be using the app next time.

The atmosphere is sophisticated yet comfortable. Although it was a bit dark at the table which made reading the small print menu a bit difficult. The service was prompt and attentive. We went for a Birthday dinner and all of the dishes we ordered met or exceeded expectations for taste and portions. We had the Soufiya Paneer as an appetizer, the paneer was excellent, soft and light and fried to perfection. I especially liked the fish curry. Will probably try this place for lunch as well in the future.

we had the reservation so we were sitted right away. there was no problem but we had to wait almost one hour for the dinner and that is too long of a wait. we got appetizer almost after 45 min after order and the dinner came almost after another hour and at that time we weren't even hungry so if you could minimize this waiting period that would be great. service was excellent.

As usual food was very good this time. However, their bar list was disappointing. I ordered a bottle of wine from their menu, the waiter brings a higher price bottle and says the other one is not available. My friend orders a drink, he takes the order, returns back in few minutes and says he doesn't have the drink anymore. For Mocktails, all they have is virgin Mojito. I don't think this practice is right. The waiting staff should know what is there and what is not there. On the wine list, especially when you have only two a particular wine type (Pinor Noir) and don't have the lower priced one (mind you that is still expensive), and not having an alternative is not correct. Food as usual, was terrific.

Service was very slow, we ordered two appetizers, the first one came after 15 mins, the second after 45mins. We had ordered dinner with the second appetizer. That came pretty late too. Out of the 4 things we ordered 2 were good, 2 were pretty bad. Go for ambience, lighting, decor. I have only tried 2 things so cannot say if the rest of it is also going to be similar. But service was really poor.

Potatoes 65 appetizer is great! Ambiance and decor are great. Love it. The kids love the fiber optic light fixtures that change color. Food and service here varies. The first time we went, the food was great (albeit a bit too spicy for kids). Second time here, it took a long time to get our menus and water. Food was just so-so. Conclusion: worth a try. The food was wonderful. We were in the back in a booth so missed the ambiance of the restaurant. Also, there must have been a large party in the back because we heard lots of kids playing loudly and a baby crying throughout most of our meal. This somewhat spoiled our experience. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. I would return but only if I could be certain I wouldn't have all the noise. I like kids and babies.....just didn't enjoy having that disruption for a special occasion meal.

We went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night and it was not that crowded. It still took someone more than 15 minutes just to come and take our order (and that too after asking for it a few times). They also took their own sweet time bringing out the food. Food was quite good but still.. horrible service kills the experience. If a Tuesday evening was this slow.. how can they cater to their guests on a weekend. . I wonder.

Myself(I'm a veggie)and my friend(he is a non-veg) went for lunch ($16.26 with tax). The starters were good. The main course was Oily. The Bread(Naan) provided was smelling like the one you get from charred food. The Deserts were pathetic, specifically rasagoolas were really hard. We requested for some hot water and it took more than 10 minutes. Also when I requested for details on any specific dishes, the response was not that great. Adding to this, the toilets can be kept much more cleaner.

Four of us went for buffet lunch on A Friday. good thing I had made a reservation! This buffet was the most comprehensive, beautiful one I have ever experienced. So many items I'd never met before. Each item was beautifully presented and the flavors were just right. this place gets very very crowded at lunch on Friday and the lines were sometimes long, and still, the serving was perfectly timed so that you never had to wait for replenishing. It was loud and lively and delicious. I am from chicago and we have many Indian restaurants- I eat Indian whenever I travel and this beats them all!!!!!

Our dinner was full of spices, textures and great tastes. The service was very attentive and the avocado/potato appetizer we had was very unique. The contrasts of textures was excellent. We liked the fact that the dishes were slightly different from traditional Indian food but carried all of the traditional spices and chutneys. We will definitely go back and look forward to trying new things.
