Diner Reviews
  • "We discovered this place a few months ago after a show we attended. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious and well-prepared each dish was. I'll never forget that beef cheek papardelle. The other night I had a luscious skirt steak. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who cares about food and the opportunity to enjoy it in a respectful, low-key atmosphere."

  • "Saju Bistro is one of the finest in Times Square. Always a great table and a great waiter ! Goat cheese ravioli is always a must and any seafood special! Desserts are beautiful and yummy! Thank you for never disappointing me as I bring first timers here every year!"

  • "My wife, son and I ate at Saju Bistro before going to the theater; we arrived at 6:00. The restaurant was lively and in full swing. It has an atmosphere I would associate with a brasserie: informal, a little bit old school, unpretentious, welcoming. The food isn't complicated, it's the old reliables well executed -- moules marinieres, steak frites, etc. The price feels right for a restaurant of its kind. Good service, attentive without a bit of stuffiness or pomposity. They check to see if diners are heading to the theater and make an effort to assure they're on time, but they didn't rush us. I would definitely eat there again."

  • "this is a special, charming, delicious, delightful place and if you find yourself going to theatre nearby, you can't go wrong in terms of food, drink, pricing, portion size, and caring staff."

  • "Found it after not getting into another restaurant. Friendly and warm staff. Food is wonderful and plentiful. Reasonably priced for a theater district restaurant. They ask if you are going to a show and make sure you are served quickly but you never feel rushed. It is my new go to place before a show!"

  • "Less than a block away from Times Square, we found this cozy French Provencal spot for an after matinee Sunday dinner. The menu was varied and accomodated my meat and wheat-free daughter's dietary requirements with a great mushroom and truffle oil Risotto dish. I wanted a simple burger and was amply satisfied with my choice accompanied by sweet potato frites. There were a variety of dessert selections; I had a nice Tarte Tatin while my wife had a delicious creme brulee. A comfortable, safe choice in the bustle of mid-town."

  • "If you are looking for an above average bistro restaurant in the Times Sauare area, Saju Bistro is a terrific choice. My wife and I enjoyed a pre theater dinner before going to our show. We can recommend this restaurant as we have been here a number of times."

  • "The food was excellent! We had a fish dish which was cooked just perfectly that came with a delicious sauce, and the risotto special, which was also delicious. The caesar salad was wonderful, and the apple crisp and ice cream dessert was yummy. Highly recommend!"

  • "Very good restaurant for a pre (after) theatre lunch or dinner. Close to everything but still quiet enough, big enough and enjoyable enough. Food came quickly and it was pretty good."

  • "April 2014: the restaurant was strangely empty for a Saturday night ... The menu is quite varied and attractive. My chicken (herb jus, poached garlic, mashed potatoes and ratatouille) was really good, my husband mini burgers (Kobe beef) were cute but not exceptional. Tarte tatin can be a little nauseating. Good service (and for once included in the note! 15%). But we keep a fairly positive reviews and could go back for another stay."

  • "Knowledgeable waitress really topped off a top notch effort by the kitchen - heirloom tomatoes and burratta, grilled octopus, braised rabbit and the skate special - delish place for pre-theater, or just a great traditional bistro dinner."

  • "I still love this place: the ambiance is pleasant albeit a bit frenetic at times; the food is generally quite good and expertly prepared; the prices are sane; the bar is tight but manages to retain a cozy feel; the bar staff is pleasant. On a recent Saturday night, the service was well intentioned but a bit slipshod and forgetful: entrees arrived but silverware was missing, wait staff was absent for long periods; orders had to be repeated several times due to distracted wait staff; an ammonia laden mop was brought out to cleanup a spill near the bar leaving behind lingering fumes. Minor irritations. The remaining meal was quite good, I will most definitely return and still highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "An oasis in the theatre district. I went for the theatre but now that I know about this pretty little gem, I would go without tickets. Most in the theatre district are cramped, rushed, loud and not enjoyable. This is an exception. The menu is extensive with something for everyone including children. The salmon tartar was great -even the coffee was good. Yes-put it on your list and go."

  • "Upon writing this, I have now had my third business lunch here. The food has always been prompt and delicious. My guests have always been impressed. The waitstaff are highly professional and attentive. The level of noise and activity is perfect; not so quiet that others overhear conversations, and yet not too loud - allowing business discussions to occur without great effort. In addition, guests are seated sufficiently far apart. I will be returning, and already have several reservations for future meetings."

  • "We were cordially greeted at the door by the staff, received excellent service from our waiter Kelly and all three of us enjoyed our meals. My husband and I particularly appreciated the fact that the portions were reasonable and we thought the price very reasonable for interesting, very good and attractively presented food. We have already recommended the restaurant to friends."

  • "great place for dinner before theatre or any other time. Food was great, the olives and bread and tapenade are not only outstanding, but free of charge..Service was attentive, friendly, and delightful. The atmosphere feels like the country side of France.. You will being coming back to eat after you have dinned here the first time."

  • "Saju Bistro is an excellent restaurant with a friendly staff, and delicious food. The atmosphere seems hectic, but it is a smooth dining experience. The Risotto is always great, and they have a very good wine list."

  • "I have been here a number of times and I will be back. The appetizers alone are worth the trip! Mussels, Escargot, the onion tart, the cauliflower soup are all wonderful. Dinner is always excellent - try the Bucatini - and save room for desert - wonderful chocolate mousse and lemon tart. The restaurant is quiet even when it is full. The staff is perfect."

  • "Although this review is of no reflection on our server, the notion we flew across the country to celebrate our birthdays and our birthdays were not recognized by anyone at Saju was really disappointing. Why do Open Table customers take the time to put notes with our reservations when the restaurants don't read the comments? They have a pre-set dinner menu that was basically so-so: Salad, Chicken, Beef, Fish or a Veggie Pasta dish. When I go out to eat, I expect to find something that I would not fix at home... Sorry - I wish I had something more positive to say... JS - Arizona"

  • "This neighborhood find is always a treat. The staff treats you like a regular, even when you're not. The comfortable bistro style seating never feels cramped, even when they are fully committed, and the atmosphere is homey and quaint. The bread basket is served with a delicious tapanade, the mussels and country pate make you feel like you're in a Parisian cafe, and while the cocktails are overpriced, the menu is not. The special fish was fresh and tasty, as were the sliders! The charming little dish of cookies is always a pleasant surprise."

  • "Very pleasant bistro dining. Menu varied enough for a light meal or dinner. Enjoyed the price fixed at $32 (need to ask for it though-- not volunteered). The portions are very ample- the pate appetizer could have been a meal. and the hanger steak was tender and flavorful. The chocolate mousse for dessert was enough for two. All in all a very good choice in the theater district."
