Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good and the service was also. The ambience was quite nice and the staff was very friendly. This is a good place for a pre-theater dinner."

  • "Have. Always appreciated this restaurant since we had a show in the Belasco. Probably one of the least discovered gems in the Times Square area. Good food, friendly staff,Mandy quietism. Much appreciated."

  • "Lovely spot for pre-matinee (or any) lunch. Darling french bistro feel, very friendly staff, nice selection of wines and beers. Burrata cheese appetizer and gazpacho soup was outstanding. Get a table in the front and you can watch the people go by."

  • "In the heart of times square & the theatre district, This place was an unexpected great surprise. Food was fantastic reasonably priced! But in true French fashion the servers were not that friendly!"

  • "Suja is very attractive, noisy and energetic in a good way, and our server was terrific, if spread a bit thin. Food was good, but not great. My carpaccio was great, as were the olives and bread served gratis, but my rissoto fell short due to being much too salty. That said, Suja was certainly on a par with the other restaurants in the Theater district and was a nice diversion from the typical Italian fare in the area."

  • "It's mostly a place for business lunch. So it was very quiet till 1:00 pm when they started to fill up. They let you dine and eat slowly. I highly recommend it!"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Although food was good, most entrees came with potatoes of one sort or another. I don't eat potatoes and they wouldn't substitute it for something else."

  • "Attentive and warm service, lovely decor, but the salad nicoise was a but skimpy on the tuna. Other diners meals looked good. Good location for pre-theatre so would give another try."

  • "We ate here before the theatre on a sunday evening. It is across the street from Un Deux Trois and I think a step up. Good overall meal in pleasant atmosphere. Crawfish, mushroom and pea rissoto was great!."

  • "The menu (regardless of time of day) is large and varied enough for everybody to find something. Portions are perfect (I hate being overwhelmed by too much food and/or knowing I'm being set up for having to order more sides, dessert or fill up on bread.) Food is always well prepared, fresh and nicely presented. Wait staff is attentive without hovering and there's a friendly, professional vibe. Having said that, you still have to deal with the crowds and actually getting there (assuming you're there for something other than pre-post theater).....and it seems there's always a parade or fair going on around the corner. Bottom line: My only reservation is that my out annual of town guests won't go anywhere else!"

  • "Loved the ambiance but the serving size for the salade Nicoise is a bit stingy"

  • "We've been to NYC a couple of times this year and our hotel recommended Saju and we are thankful they did. It's close to the hotel but more important the food is wonderful. We had the eggs Benedict--superb!"

  • "We were a party of six after a theater matinee, and everyone had a very good meal and a very good time, aided by the availability of a round table. Prices are fair, and the place feels like a friendly bistro. Will return."

  • "Saju is good for brunch or evening dinner! Waitress was a little stressed but she had a good sense of humor 😊"

  • "our second visit and just as good as the first. Last winter there was a fixed price option as well as a la carte and the fixed price was selected by one in a party of four. We were just as early this time but there was only a la carte. This obviously was insignificant for our overall experience. We all thoroughly enjoyed our choices. The service was attentive yet not rushed. We will return"

  • "Our reservation allowed us to sit right away even while two of our group dawdled outside. The food was excellent and since the waiter asked if we were seeing a show, they were very prompt with the service. I would recommend them for dinner to anyone, even if they aren't seeing a show. They weren't too loud or crowded."

  • "We chose Saju Bistro because of the perfect restaurant for pre theatre. We had a leisurely dinner and had plenty of time to make the 7pm opening curtain. The food was authentic French cuisine. I would recommend this highly and I will return!"

  • "Our event was a birthday celebration prior to a play. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly. The wine list and menu was authentic French and delicious. I will be back many times...."

  • "The name Saju is misleading; at first I thought it must be Japanese, but it's a French bistro. Turns out the name combines the first two letters of each of the owner's two children. The food is easier to figure out: simply delicious. Some day I'll start my dinner with a different appetizer, but I can't seem to pass up their very generous bowl of pistou (vegetable soup with pesto). I've enjoyed the salmon and other entrees, but on our last visit, my husband and I shared the two entrees we couldn't resist: sea bass, and penne with grilled eggplant and tomato sauce. Both were excellent. The bargain pre-fixe menu for early diners is no longer offered, but the regular dinner menu is full of wonderful choices. "

  • "as usual food was delicious and spot on…but the service? our waitress spent most of her time chatting up colleagues and other people (friends?) at the bar, and we literally had to wave at her twice to get her attention -- and we were the only couple sitting in the front of the restaurant (right on the street) on a quiet monday evening. I'll go back, but if I see that waitress, I'm not sitting in her area, it really detracted from the experience,"

  • "We had a 6pm reservation and 15 minutes early and were seated within 5 minutes. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good including the French onion soup which was out of this world."

  • "This was my second visit to Saju for the weekend brunch and it was wonderful. The first time I was seated in the main portion which gave me an opportunity to get a feel for the place. This past visit I was with friends for brunch before a play and we were seated in the front bar area. The staff asked if we would like the doors opened up, which we thought was a great idea. The table was moved out a bit towards the sidewalk which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful afternoon. The food was great again and the service couldn't have been better. Saju has definitely been added to my pre-play dining options."

  • "Service was good, food was excellent, decor is charming, location is terrific. We went before theatre, 7:00 show, which we told the staff. Dinner was excellent - steak rare as requested, pork very well done. We had time for dessert and had the special bread pudding. Delicious. All in all, perfect for pre-theater. Or post!"
