  • "Open kitchen experience...took the wine pairing w the pre set menu ,and as I, be prepared to be impressed. You palate on your tongue will experience 2 hours of plaisir! All explained in an ambience of subtle- chic- elegance from all whom you will encounter including the chef. I did discover a great wine from the Adreatic Sea area! The sommelier was very engaging iand informative. The waiting staff and chefs were just as enamoring. The chef extraordinaire! "

  • "Given the price tag, $250 per person, the food needs to be unbelievably good, which it is. And the open kitchen is marvelous to watch the chefs crafting the bite-sized dishes that are true works of culinary art. Wine paring, also $250 pp felt like a rip off. Its one thing to marvel at craftsman creating sublime dishes, it's another to pop a cork. The table (for two) was designed with an iron leg directly at the middle edge, resulting in me cracking my knee cap on it, even with the hostess warning me to watch the bar. I had to sit "side saddle" all night. Wide table made conversation harder, and LED spotlights cast eerie shadows on our faces. I sound like I'm nitpicking, but for $1000 for two, all should be perfect."

  • "Saison has long been on the list for my girlfriend and I, and was at least my own first foray into Michelin-rated dining. I can honestly say that we could not have picked a better choice for her birthday dinner, and for an excellent night of dining and wine. Service was impressive, although the sommelier and our primary waiter left a couple of things to be desired as far as their knowledge and tact. It was not enough to ruin an evening, but it did leave a sour taste in our mouths. What did NOT leave a sour taste was the food - better food I have not had in all my days. Our chef, Scott, was in perfect form and his food left us wanting more and more. It's expensive, but worth every penny, to come here - but you will not regret it."

  • "The ambience is wonderful, the precision of execution without peer, and the quantity of different flavors in a single bite more varied that seemingly possible. However, most likely due to the prevalence of raw fish and seafood, my wife felt discomfort during the meal and fell ill immediately afterward. While some people may swoon over the exotic ingredients, we found them to be a little too exotic for us."

  • "Be prepared for the $970 dollar price tag for 2 standard tasting menus and a shared wine pairing. There is an option for an extended menu at a price of $400/person. Unparalleled wine list for those of you interested in going off the wine pairing route. Spectacular meal."

  • "we had the discovery menu there, with almost total of 25 courses, of course very full, but every course gives you a new experience. it's truly good, to a point that i think it has exceed too many fine dining places in the bay area including french laundry. it is a very expensive meal but i like the fact that they don't charge you additionally for an "add-on", everything is included within the menu price and they deliver the best quality. The atmosphere is very cool, we sit facing the kitchen, very recommend! All the chef are amazingly skillful, service is great. I don't have too much to be picky about, i think this place will soon be a 3 star:)"

  • "Clearly expensive, but the "Discovery" menu offered me what I seek most in fine dining: unique dishes that were both whimsical and delicious."

  • "Best in SF. World class food and the price to match. The wine pairing is really good, Krug Champagne and mostly white French wine. Recommend to share between two people, they provided us two separate sets of glasses. That makes the wine pairing a great deal at half price."

  • "One of the best of the best places for great dinning experience. Flawless service and outstanding food and wine pairing. Might need second mortgage now but it was worth it!"

  • "Everything you have heard about how good this restaurant is..is true. The food was out of this world. The waiters, chefs, bartender, and sommelier were so nice. Great spot for a special occasion."

  • "The kitchen at Saison serves a tasting menu of the highest caliber. The flavors and textures are generally well conceived, executed and plated. It is obvious the kitchen attempts to procure ingredients from the best sources, as well as utilize them uniquely. (One exception is the bland Parker-style rolls.) I wish Saison would send courses to the table in a more leisurely manner. Every time I've dined there I've made fruitless attempts to have the meal paced more leisurely. On this visit desserts and tea arrived almost simultaneously. It was obvious that the restaurant wanted our table. Being rushed out was not cool. The menu of "our meal" that was presented to us as we exited listed two courses (of twelve) that we were not served."

  • "It took almost 4 hours to finish the dinner! It is a bit tasking after a long day! But, every dish is a new surprise and a wonderful experience. I have never tasted food with so much complexity that is comparable to a bottle of great wine."

  • "Amazing blow out night. We were celebrating my husband's BD. Saison did not disappoint except perhaps for the fact that Chef did not sign our menu. Then again all attention was on the food/art coming out of the kitchen.... And it showed. We love what Chef Duffy is doing in Chicago (he did sign our menu lol) but Saison blew Grace out of the water. The food/wine pairings were the best we have had in a long, long time. The ambiance and 80's music were icing on the cake. One of our top 5 meals ever....."

  • "This was one of those very special occasion meals that could not be replicated often because it was so costly, but it was worth the price. The service was beyond impeccable and the food and presentation were sublime. I had the discovery tasting menu and it was incredible, so much so, that I took notes!"

  • "We had an incredibly special dinner here for my husband's 40th birthday. The food was exquisite, the ambience intimate and quiet, and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly without intruding. (In fact out of the corner of my eye I caught a waiter catch himself and stand back when he could see we were in the middle of a serious discussion.) It really feels like a shrine to incredible flavors and foods without being stuffy. We won't be back often because it is a major blow to the wallet, but it is absolutely worth it for those rare occasions."

  • "An extraordinary dining experience from start to finish."

  • "We started with single bits of raw fish and fish row. The flavors were clean, fresh, with crunch where appropriate. We then progressed to larger plates which included the freshest uni, fish row, etc. We had the wine paring, which was the best paring we had ever experience. The two weakest dishes were the abalone although the flavors were good it was slightly rubbery and the pigeon which was not at the same level of the seafood. Desert was fun. We had a table overlooking the kitchen with lots of action but quiet. The service was good close to perfect, but slight room for improvement. A couple of the dishes were unbelievably outstanding."

  • "phenomenal setting and service. the menu is fixed and multi-small courses, so while we weren't crazy about all of the taste combinations, each of them was creative and inventive. this is also the most expensive restaurant at which we've dined (count on $700 for a couple with minimal alcohol, and you could easily cross the 4-digit mark without trying), so while this wouldn't be a 'regular' stop for us, it was worth the money for the experience. incredibly thoughtful menu and painstaking detail to presentation."

  • "Saison is perhaps not for everyone - openmindedness is perhaps a bit important, but for those looking for an extraordinary melding of food, wine, service and ambiance you will not find anything quite like it. Having dined all over the world and United States, I found Saison achieves what feel places of its caliber do - create a totally cohesive, personalized service that is contemporary with cuisine that is based on the amazing caliber of products they procure and presenting them in creative and inventive ways, that are yet somewhat familiar. An emphasis on flavor and texture and technique. Saison is the closest to a true Japanese Kaiseki you will find in this country. BRAVO!!!"

  • "Easily my favorite restaurant. The food is ridiculously good, the wine pairings are perfect, and the service is second-to-none. A slight issue is that they have a tendency of surprising you, usually about 24 hours out (sometimes same-day), with "just to inform you, we're out of tables in the restaurant, so your booking is for the bar." An OpenTable reservation should obviously be for the restaurant itself. In my 3-4 bookings at Saison, none of my OpenTable reservations were honored as-is, and I've had to change my reservations last-minute in order to eat in the dining room. It's worth dealing with the above-listed annoyance, because the food is incredible, but it's something they definitely need to address with their front-of-house staff"

  • "Great and wonderful restaurant but priced at a premium. Definitely a dining experience."

  • "This restaurant was far from our expectation. With over a $600 per person meal with all persons being dissatisfied should say it all. Watch up from the suggestion from the waiter as all they try to do is get you to order up to increase the bill. All small plates lacked flavor and there was no anchor meal that was satisfying. Each plate was a lot of show but flavor lacked everything. Each meal had Foam which just masked the visual appearance of what was put in front of you. Our group has been to some of the highest Michelin Star restaurants in the world and this one by far is just an over rated Suishi restaurant. All of us would never recommend this restaurant to anyone - even our worst enemy. Think twice and save your money."

  • "This was my second time at Saison, this time for my wife's birthday. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish, with everything done to make dinner memorable. Attentive, friendly yet completely unintrusive service. And the food in every course was outstanding. We were halfway through the dinner before we found out half the time we were being served by the owners themselves. I love the fact that volume is low and quality very high. Even at this high price, it's worth going for the special experience that it is."

  • "Outstanding, inventive, balanced flavors and textures that are sometimes dazzling, and dishes that are always beautiful. We did the full tasting menu. Lovely portions, and our interest and appetites stayed high. Very special food. Loved watching the kitchen action and fire stoking etc. Service can be highly professional, tho not always."

  • "There are really no words to describe the dining experience at Saison except to say that everything from drinks down to the parting gift are perfectly executed. The space is warm rustic modern, the staff is wonderful and the food is unforgettable. We loved sitting next to the open kitchen to watch the dishes being quietly and skillfully prepared with unmatched attention to detail. Perfect, perfect, perfect."

  • "We have been on a mission for years. Get enough Open Table points and eat here with the vouchers. With points in hand, it was worth it. The staff was unbelievable; highly friendly as well as professional. The food was original as well as creative, reflective of the season. Enjoyed the open kitchen. Nothing was stuffy or pretentious. We would rank this as one of the best restaurants in the city. If you get the chance to eat here, it is well worth it."

  • "We have done many tasting menus and really enjoy the experience. However, the food was below the level of the cost. We did one wine pairing and we thought that the chosen wine was far below standards for $248. Not one wine stood out. The food was clever and beautifully presented, but vastly over priced for our experience. The wait staff, ambience, atmosphere was brilliant! Bar was exceptional! Just needed "more," in food area for the price. Maybe order from the menu and enjoy the experience that way. Respectfully, Mark"

  • "While undoubtedly expensive, our recent meal was worth every penny. Freshest of fresh, with mind-blowing intensity and delicacy of flavors….add Japanese-like attention to presentation and Saison is perhaps as close as it gets to perfect. Our best meal in the US this year, bar none."

  • "Flavors of each course were perfect to the palate. Fragrance and taste were well balanced! The open kitchen experience and interactions with chefs were both exciting and fun. Service was meticulous! They paid attention to every details!"

  • "Eating at the Saison was a true adventure in eating. Yes, the food was excellent (heavy on the 'raw fish' side), but it was the entire experience that will be treasured. Usually we don't like to sit any where near the kitchen, but watching the staff "construct" each course was fun! Overall it was a unique and excellent dining experience. You do need to know the cost before you go."

  • "The service was great. The food was amazing. The portion size was ridiculous. 16 amuse bouche, and we left hungry. In no way is going to eat at a restaurant, and spending 500$ in food acceptable if you leave unsatisfied."
    Dined on 11/19/2013
  • "Enjoyed the meal and experience. Service was excellent. Food was very creative and artistic but a little bit too heavy with the seafood. Not really sure the premium wine pairing was "premium" and warranting the double fee from the standard wine pairing. Expensive evening, but that was expected from reviewing the website before making reservations."

  • "Everything was fabulous - could not have been better. But I had no idea how expensive it was going to be. CRAZY! Not that it is not a wonderful meal - but I just can't wrap my head around this, especially when there is wonderful food to be had at very special restaurants for a quarter of the price."
