Probably the best meal that I ever had. It was our anniversary. Twenty courses, with wine pairing. But the portions were small, so it worked out very well. The service was amazingly attentive, but not obtrusive. And I love the view in the amazing clean kitchen. The only downside came at the end of our meal. We asked for another glass of port while our check was delivered, and were told that we should move into the "the salon", which is the bar. It was obvious they were trying to move us out for the next seating. That's fine if we eating at Olive Garden, but this was the most expensive restaurant we ever ate at. All in, we spent over $2,000. At this price, we should not have been rushed. It left a really bad taste after twenty courses of great tastes.

The customer can make no variation in the menu , and if any course is missed, too bad . The server mentioned that a wine pairing was available, and my wife said that sounded nice. The wine pairing option was not listed on the wine list, and price was never mentioned by the server or listed anywhere. It turns out that the wine pairings were $248 per person, for the equivalent of about 2 ½ glasses of wine, according to the server. That comes out to almost $100 per glass. I had to ask the server for the price of the wine pairings (appearing cheap to my wife), and then had to explain to my wife that the wine pairing that she thought sounded fun was actually an extreme ripoff (again looking like a cheapskate to my wife).

Words cannot describe our experience last night...it's not even fair. Trying to capture the essence of Saison is challenging as they quite literally created their own category in fine dining amongst all the 3 Michelin Stars with sumptuous cuisine exquisitely presented but with the right amount of restraint, impeccable service which was never stuffy, warm and inviting ambiance created by the beautiful setting and best music playlist circa 1980's, not to mention the incredible selection of wine. I think you get the point despite my feeble attempt as I'm still basking in my post-Saison bliss.

A perfect evening in all respects! Our table was terrific with a great view of the kitchen and the ballet of preparation of dinner. Each course was brought to the table by the preparer and explained in detail with passion and enthusiasm. We had the food and wine pairing and that enhanced each course. There were may courses, so bring an appetite, but the sizes are reasonable. The evening seemed more like dinner at a friend's house than at a starred restaurant. We will not soon forget this memorable meal!!!

Way too expensive compare what they can deliver (like TFL and Meadowood). After had a dinner few days ago, I am very surprised they can get Michelin 3 star. No variety, almost all fish dishes, no bread, no meat (except a 2-in long .5-inch wide duck) and I need to go to McDonald's across the street to finish my dinner. I definitly won't go back again.

Definitely worth the splurge for a nice occasion! If you're not big into seafood though, this probably won't be a good bet for you b/c it's like 70-80% of the menu. I love the open kitchen and the service is really really wonderful.

On a level with the other great SF restaurants, with highly complex, creative combinations of ingredients. Every mouthful was amazing, from the 3 trout courses (roe, crispy skin and smoked) to the pate mousse. The wine pairing, all whites except one red and one sake, was extraordinarily well matched at each course, far above our expectations. They accommodated our change from an early dinner to a late dinner (9:30) so we could watch the Giants win game 7! Chaos outside on the streets, but smooth, professional, service inside. Having a table near the kitchen adds a wonderful dimension of entertainment to the evening. We anticipated each course that we watched them preparing.

everything was top notch and an experience to remember. worth every penny!. the food was pretty genius and thought provoking - not many restaurants will do that! the only negative experience would be with the reservationist who called to confirm our reservation and kept saying "what?" and not listening. She seemed distracted. Then the next day I receive an email saying I did not confirm my reservation. I think they need someone with better listening and people skills to interface with the customers. A minor gripe among an awesome experience.

I was lucky enough to dine here for a second time recently. Anyway, the food. This latest tasting menu includes a lot of seafood generally cooked the same way, lightly cooked in the fire. Each course was perfectly cooked and had delicate but well thought out tastes and flavored. However, after 4 or 5 courses of one mouthful sized pieces of fish, it's gets a little one dimensional and you kind of feel like you're in just an overpriced sushi restaurant. Each course costs you about $30. The servers were polite but at times when questioned about what we were eating, knowledge was lacking. An amazing experience and night to remember, but wouldn't return as it's not worth the money.

its tasting "menu" only (there's actually no menu though) and we did the optional "discovery" add-on, and the beverage pairing. Every single bite was amazing especially enjoyed the caviar dishes - there were two - and the UNi on top of something amazing, the trout, and the radish! But everything else was incredible. Would definitely go back. Pricey but special. Epic!!!

1st time I had Discovery Menu and when I returned again I tried Regular Menu+ wine pairing. I have to say the Regular is wonderful but you really should try the Discovery one time because it's just amazing. I knew Saison would make it to 3 stars in no time, and I'm so glad I get to try it before it rated 3 stars (coz it'll be so hard to get reso i bet:) It's so far the best experience I had and it's brand new experience you could ever get in French Laundry or all other fine dining. The wine pairing is good, but I don't think he explains each wine very well and it feels like he's rushing it up. I'd wish they can slow down the meals so we can enjoy it more.

The service is a particular standout here. The various chefs each present their courses instead of going through a singular service line, which really works. And while the atmosphere is elegant and refined, the staff can also play along if you're looking to have some laughs and a good time.

Overall my experience here was disappointing as I was expecting something truly great. The food was of very good quality, fresh and tasty, however the portions were too small and I left the restaurant still hungry which was surprising with a 12 course degustation menu. The wait staff were attentive and not obtrusive, and it was great to sit where we could see the chefs creating the meals, but the music was too loud, and consisted of 80s hits. I wanted this to be a special night but overall was left feeling quite flat. The bill was $700 for 2 people for a degustation menu (there are NO options apart from a 12 or an 18 course degustation menu) and one glass of wine each. Would be happy to pay this for something spectacular, but not this.

Saison was truly as advertised. We had an outstanding 12 to 14 course menu with wine pairing. The service was attentive, friendly and very professional. The food was out of this world from the tomato salad to the sushi to the smoked trout to the abalone to the roasted Brussels sprouts to the duck on through desert. The portions were adequate and the tastes fantastic. The wine pairings were also great including five or six still wines (mostly whites), two champagnes, one sake and one beer. It was a most wonderful anniversary celebration dinner. Just one note of caution; all this does not come for free, the bill was over the top, but it was a special occasion.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This meal was extraordinary. I'll admit, I was intimidated when they said the prix fixe tasting menu did not have a set price as the chef was making it up as he went along. But this meal was exquisite, delicate, refined and worth every penny - more pennies than even the French Laundry BTW. The sommelier did a lovely job pairing beautiful wines for us while respecting that we wanted to sip on a budget, and the bartender did a lovely job reinventing classic cocktails like his lovely white negroni. And having the chefs bring out their dishes personally made it both classy and unstuffy somehow. Loved watch them make their magic in the open kitchen and if you're lucky, you might get a tour. If I were doling out Michelin stars - 3!

If you are really into the chef - mini bites thing, this is your place but if you are looking to eat well, you won't like it especially when you get the check! There are 25 mini-bites courses, they take way too long between each of them and some of them are really NOT good. Me and my wife paid over $700 and had only 3 drinks (she had water).

We had an amazing experience at Saison. I had read the reviews, including many interviews with Joshua Skenes. Because SF is such a fantastic restaurant town, I never saw a need to spend huge dollars for a meal. Nonetheless, it was my 35th wedding anniversary, so my wife and I decided to splurge. Wow! The 15 course tasting meal was fantastic, didn't leave us feeling too full and the service was impeccable. The wine pairings were also fantastic. I particularly like that the restaurant is set up to provide an elegant, yet relaxed, experience. The restaurant puts all diners adjacent to the completely calm kitchen and you interact with the folks who cook your meal. It really makes you appreciate it that much more. Awesome!

We celebrated our 15th anniversary at Saison and literally had the best seat in the house. We sat right in front of the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs work their magic. The bartendar made me the most amazing cocktail - Tequila Daisy - and my husband enjoyed the wine pairing. My favorite dish was the Trout and I am still thinking about it! So amazing - the texture was just as good as the taste. Our waiter was a character and the same one we had last year. Made the evening that much better. Thanks for another great experience!

The food was incredible!! I would describe it as fusion that was heavily leaning toward seafood and poultry a light on red meat, which I like. The wine was free flowing and served by a person very schooled in winemaking and viticulture. The dining room and kitchen have no separation - so we were entertained with watching everything going into our meal preparation. I knew going into it that the bill would be pricey, and it was. But I was disappointed in that it was way too hot in the dining room. Perhaps this was due to the open kitchen that allowed the oven heat to flow into the dining area. But for the price we paid I would think that the restaurant should work some solution out.

Saison is located in a brick building that exudes charm. The restaurant has an open kitchen that is marvelous to observe and it does not create any "clatter" or extra noise (not sure how they do it?). The tasting menu has 13 courses, two of which are beverages. The entire meal is orchestrated with impecable service, each course is described in complete detail. There are no "mystery" ingredients. The focus is seafood and feels very Japanese, four courses are eaten with chopsticks. The food is textured with multiple flavors and the botanicals used are interesting. After finishing 13 courses, you are sated, but not full. Save up, and go.

I don't really have anything negative to say than compared to other tasting menus that I have done, this one is just overpriced. The food was very good but not epic. The service was great despite the arrogance in the air for the place. The wine pairings were epic and done exceptionally well. Food wise, almost all savory appetizers and mains were good/very good. The quality of food is consistent. However non of them were great enough for me to plan for a second visit. The desserts are ok but it was expected. The open kitchen was great. Overall, it is much better experience than what I had in Restaurant of Meadowood. However, if I am going to have another dinner in one of the fancy restaurants again, I'd prefer Manresa.

The food was innovative, and spectacularly designed and presented, but lacked the anticipated variety: it was almost exclusively seafood, with only one meat dish and very few (although interesting and tasty) vegetables. The last bits of some exceptional items -- for instance, the abalone liver paste -- remained uneaten because there was no bread to wipe them up. Besides exceptional wines, one dish's 'wine' pairing was sake (unwarmed), another, beer. Even though beer is not meant to be sipped, just one good swallow was presented in a wineglass. At $48, the optonal cheese course's miniature portions of five selections seem overpriced. Otherwise seamless service didn't properly accommodate the non-drinker in the party. Once is enough.

We ordered the 19 course meal with wine pairing. We started with a tea course and just before desert another tea course this is just an example of the symmetry in the meal. This is a chief focused on taste not show. The smoked salmon course brought lox to a whole new level of smokey delight. In the "crispy" salad each ingredient was fried to perfection all were light and tasty. Most of the courses had a depth of favor and added accents. We eat at at Saison three months ago and they corrected all the minor issues in my last review: service was perfect, the abalone was cooked correctly not rubbery, the meat course was brought up the the level of tasty to match the other course. Now the only issue is value? Wine pairing was outstanding!
