A word from Saint John Ale House
The Saint John Ale House offers progressive pub food in a casual, relaxed dining room, in our pub and on our waterfront patio during the summer. We take pride in knowing where our food comes from and use locally grown and seasonal produce, meats and fish from New Brunswick farmers in many of our menu items and daily specials.

We offer the largest selection of beer in Saint John, including several local craft beers such as Moosehead Cask Ale made exclusively for the SJAH. We have an extensive wine list and also serve creative cocktails hand-made by our mixologist.

Join us for a few drinks in the pub, or dine in our restaurant. If you're interested in an all around fun night out in Saint John - we look forward to hosting you!

Sorry we do not accept reservations in the pub or on the patio.

So pleasant is the warm feeling when you first enter, very welcoming. Very busy Thursday lunch with cruise ship in Port and sculptors busy at work seen from windows of ale house. Food hot and so good. Love the ever evolving menu and new wines. Awsome!!

Late night dinner and beer date with my girlfriend on a Saturday night. I had never been here before, but was told great things about the place so we decided to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the different groups and ages of people that were in the Ale house at the time. The different floors perfectly accommodated the groups dinning, from the groups that were there for a late night drink. At the same, time, the dinning experience got a perfect taste of the live music offered on this particular night. The beer/wine list was absolutely amazing. Multiple Maritime brewed beers were offered, with an amazing selection of international import beers, and to top it off.. the food was cooked perfect. Great service too! 10/10

Inner harbour area in Saint John LOOKS like the industrialists ran the planning council for the last 100 yrs! That's ok.... they lived in swank places up the river. SJAH is touristy.. but really no other area to go! Having said that ... decent menu.. good seafood selection. Had cod fish and chips.. huge portion. Mussels good, plentiful, if not in a dull sauce. Steak sambos ok. Bangers and mash nice alternative.. but running out of sauerkraut .. someone slipped up. It comes in big jars!

Well, our online reservation was not there. No tables , as requested, just booth seats which were torn, menus not same as online and many choices missing. The menu was sparse. Our 2 dining guests ordered a cheeseburger and a club (last resort). They came with black overdone fries that were not edible. My wife had the prime rib sandwich. Over half the plate was mashed potatoes and balance shaved beef covered in disgusting very dark gravy. I had boiled chicken dinner, looked like half a Cornish hen with a wing sticking up and grated carrots. We had 4 glasses of wine @ $13.00 glass and a draft coors light. The bill was $167.00 before tip. The food was awful and the birthday night for my wife and her sister was ruined. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I had been to The Ale House before and enjoyed the experience so when it came time for our anniversary I suggested to my wife we go there. This was her first time eating there. We appreciated the emphasis, support and availability of localized food. We both had a great meal, an enjoyable time together in a warm and friendly environment looking out on the harbour and boardwalk. A very pleasant evening.

Although the menu was sparse by some people's standards, I was able to find a few things that I would order. Our group had the steak & fries, stuffed potato and the rabbit. They were all properly prepared and surprisingly good (rabbit). Thanks for a great dining experience on Father's Day. Oh and we loved the old wood and brick.

Very disappointed . Ordered fries and clams, fries were NOT crispy and they were undercooked and yet they appeared very fried. And the clams had a ton of batter that was so plentiful that most of it was raw and yet the clams appeared very fried. I did not taste any truffle or Parmesan on my fries as promised. Beer selection was great.

There wasn't a single option for me, a vegetarian, except for salad. Some days you just don't want salad! So I ordered the only two veggie apps I saw; hummus, and olives. Well, awhile after ordering the server informed me there was no hummus. So I just had olives (they weren't that great.) I felt silly not eating while everyone else did, so I ordered a piece of pumpkin pie.... but it came way after everyone had finished their meals. It's a nice restaurant for some, but not accommodating to vegetarians/vegans. I probably won't be back.

I had the prime rib sandwich and rice and the prime rib was fatty. As I am not a person to complain, I said nothing and ate what I could. Our server realized the fat piled to the side of my plate and when she noticed she asked if I would prefer something else. Since the rest of my party were almost done eating, I said no thank you. When she came with our bill, I didn't have to pay for my meal and drink. I was very impressed with this service. I have been to this resturant numerous times and I always enjoy it so I will defiantly be returning. Great food and great service. Everyone else loved their meal! The had the club, fish, wings and kettle chip nachos.

I would have to say that I had one of the best meals I have ever had. Our main courses were done to perfection. The side greens were cooked to perfection. The moose head cask aged beer was unbelievable. ( specially brewed for SJAH) We shared a Guinness chocolate cake. Not a crumb was left on the plate.

I recently had dinner with my parents at the Ale House and I have to admit that it is possibly one of the best meals I've ever had. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal, large portions, amazing flavours, incredibly quick service, and all together an amazing experience. If you want to try something a little different, go for the Kentucky Fried Rabbit or Deer Sausage. We were still talking about the dinner in the days following it. Note: Don't forget to leave room for dessert! I'd recommend the Chocolate Guinness Cake for many obvious reasons.

At an Ale House, I expect lots of pub choices to go with the beer. Their menu did not offer a good selection in this regard. Prices were high and menu would be more of what I'd expect in a bistro. I splurged and went for the scallop risotto. It wasn't bad enough to send back, but I would never get it again. I got a delicious risotto at Longhorn Steakhouse in Bangor, and that's a chain! Ale House one was salty and otherwise bland. The winter squash was a nice decoration but didn't add anything to the dish. Scallops were cooked nicely. That's all I can say about that.

Three of the four were happy with their food. The kettle chips - need to ask if they want a little, medium or lot of salsa/sauce, no where near enough for one, plenty for the other and they both had to ask for extra sour cream! The beet salad was enjoyed very much - interesting item to see on a menu. The Steak and Fries were perfect. I would really recommend the Saint John Ale house for small groups. I attended recently with a large group and it did not go so well.

The atmosphere was lovely and held great promise. It was great to see Canadian wines being promoted however more selection would have been nice. The wines available were very good. The food was beautiful but was not 'done justice' by the waitress. Unfortunately she was far from the calibre of The Ale House and really degraded our experience. She was absent for most of the night except when we would send someone to get get her. She generally just did not seem to have a clue. The food deserved better treatment as did we! I would still recommend the Ale House for th efood and the wine. I am hopeful we just had bad luck with one sub-standard server.

One of my favourite places to eat and I love the fact that you buy local as much as possible. I also understand that the chef keeps his own garden. I love how you keep the menu short and sweet although a few at my table missed some of you pub selections from past menus. I loved my whole experience there. The only thing that took me off guard was that your prises were a bit higher than I remember. That's fine with me because I think your food is great but a couple in our party would not have that kind of money to spend on dinner. I think they would have preferred to have a couple of more lower prised meal options. That way, we could come again as a group and everybody could afford it and feel comfortable.

I was there this week for a function at night and mentioned that a guest had special dietary issues and the owner and chef were there and came back with a special meal prepared for them. The food is of the finest quality you can imagine, the Chef is appearing on top chef Canada, the owner is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Ther service is fantastic. The Ale House is a great dine-in experience. I love eating there on dates, the ambiance is great. The dimmed lights dive enough light for you to see your food and enjoy yourself while still have that romantic touch that I really enjoy. The noise level has always been nice and quiet and allows you to center in on yourself. The waitresses and hostesses are very nice and understanding, patient and well informed. The food is amazing. I go there solely for their Fish and Chips because the haddock/cod is the best I've had and the piece received is well worth the size, along with a proper serving size for the side. The restaurant is a great place to be and go with loved ones and friends. Highly recommended.

They have a really lengthy beer menu and we enjoyed that everything on the menu was sourced locally, but we thought that it was all a bit overpriced because in the end it's only a pub with pub-ish food. It's a nice place and the food was good but the bill shocked us.
