SahaWhat a gem!San Francisco is a city rich with great restaurants, but I always found the area around Union Square to lag behind the rest of the town. That impression has changed now that we have found Saha. Wow! Great and creative and perfectly spiced cuisine -- simply perfect. My wife and I went with a series of small plates, and each was exquisitely prepared. And the service was simply great. The waiter could not have been more helpful, and then the owner came by at the end of the meal to introduce himself and to ask how we enjoyed the meal. We can't wait to return. I'll add that it's very, very friendly for vegetarians and vegans -- lots to choose from on the menu.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMreturned after one weeki don't know what else could be a better endorsement than returning one week later to eat both dinner and brunch (great vegan + omnivore options). we stayed at the Hotel Carlton again just to make it that much easier. brunch is apparently a fairly new effort for Saha which means the word is not out yet. this means you can literally just walk in late on a Sunday and get brunch w/o long lines. i expect this will not be the case in the near future once the word gets out. but until then...hoohah!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMwarm, celebratory atmosphereBright reds and yellows bring a warmth to the exotic decor. The menu offered many choices for our mix of vegetarian and omnivore diners. We couldn't choose easily, so sampled eachothers meals. Everything tasted marvelous, from the fresh salads, to the savory entrees, to the light, but satisfying deserts. The crab stuffed artichoke hearts were delicious as was the delectable duck with the tenderness of a sweet potato! The assortment of vegetarian dishes was a delight, and none were a disapointment. The service was attentive but allowed us to take our time. We will go there again and recommend Saha to others.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA Fabulous GemLoved this little hidden gem. All of the food was great, and the service was excellent. We really liked the chicken bestilla (fabulous), the lamb dish, and the fish. Our waiter was knowledgeable, had excellent recommendations, and when we hesitated about which wine to choose, he offered us tastes of both. The restaurant is a little noisy, so it's not a spot for an intimate, quiet, romantic dinner. However, I'd go back in a heartbeat.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food and great serviceWe each went with the $35 vegetarian prix fixe menu, which was a great value. Everything we tried was stellar. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely happy to work there, and the kind, attentive, knowledgable service enhanced a great meal. We will definitely be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time atThis was my second time at Saha and I was not disappointed. Great food with many options for gluten-free and vegan. The service was wonderful and friendly. Highly recommended!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful! we were a partywonderful! we were a party of mixed dietary restrictions - a picky meat-eater, a vegetarian, and a vegan - and everyone was happy. delicious food, romantic atmosphere, charming staff.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExpected morehostess was super friendly! Parking across the street. No valet, validate your parking.ceiling and walls were painted very badly. I took a few photos and the background wasn't nice, they had a register and a messy shelf full of ketchup bottles and misc items. So in the photos, it looks like a real funky hole-in-the-wall kind of spot. And supposed to be somewhere romantic for Mothers Day! The food was yummy! I had a salmon salad and my hubby had a Mediterranean burger. We had mimosas and Rose Champagne. Both delicious! This place is very casual, not fancy. Our servers were 2 ladies whom were nice but one kept over explaining everything and seemed confused about the menu since she mentioned it was their first time to host a mothers day brunch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat selection of dishesThere is a wide range of dish ingredients. We were a group of 5 and choose a variety of types of food. With the help of the waiter they all mixed well. It is a wonderful place to go where you leave contented but not uncomfortable. The wine paired very well with the food.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodMiddle Eastern food with new-age touch. And lots of vegetarian & vegan choices!
Great Service.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSaha Gets It RightFirst, let me say that it's rare for me to feel so strongly about food, service, and a feeling of being taken care of that even my mother would be jealous of...in a restaurant. Saha gets it right. Being accommodating as a strength is only trumped by how incredible their food is. We had meat eaters, gluten-free eaters, and vegetarians in our group. The menu had tons of options, even for Vegans, and it was not a chore to find dishes in those categories on the menu. There were many. I didn't have to ask about gluten-free options--the wait staff overheard me talking about it, and immediately baked (yes, baked!) some gluten-free bread to go along side the regular table bread. The food was expertly executed and very, very tasty. Foodie-friendly.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe perfect pickI chose this restaurant for a vegetarian friend's birthday. We were not disappointed in any aspect. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious and exceptionally quiet. The music is kept to a low level so that one can have a quiet romantic conversation, while the lighting is bright enough to be comfortable to see. The waiters were very friendly and smiling and able to answer all of our questions. We ordered the prix fixe dinner and everything we selected was delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. We indulged in the vegan knafee for dessert, and I was especially surprised at how good it was using vegan cream cheese and vegan phyllo. I will be back and bringing other friends for special occasions.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent, butThe food is excellent, but the dining room can be rather noisy.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Yemeni-influenced dishesThe Yemeni-influenced dishes at Saha are an adventure of flavors! We ordered several of the small plates to share. Some were more exciting than others, but we were not disappointed by any. The prices are very reasonable. Saha occupies a small space and with a full restaurant the energy level was high. We have definitely added Saha to our short list of San Francisco restaurants.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThere were five of us in ourThere were five of us in our party and enjoyed every item selected. Nice pairing with wine. We lingered a long time. Service was very attentive and we were treated a welcome guest for several hours. It's a gem!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful menu with many differentWonderful menu with many different and interesting choices. Food was well prepared and delicious! Will definitely go back on my next trip to San Francisco.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very pleased withWe were very pleased with the food and service at Saha and we plan to return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMbeautifully seasoned, freshlybeautifully seasoned, freshly prepared food with small plates through entrees.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMQuite of find!Arabic-fusion - spices test all of your taste senses - wonderfully aromatic and presentation impeccable. Only drawback is there are only a couple of meat entrees for the "non-vegetarian". The duck entree is to die for!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNot the same-old, same-oldAm in love with this adorable little restaurant! Charming ambiance; attentive, caring, helpful service (he got us out in time for theatre tickets, including dessert!); delicious food/interesting menu -- can't wait to come back and try more of the small plates. Our new pre-ACT go-to spot, made possible by convenient validated parking down the block.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThoughtful & unique flavorsVery flavorful, thoughtfully prepared, unique combinations of ingredients and flavors - a memorable dining experience. Can't go wrong with any of the lamb dishes, especially the spicing of the lahem sougar. I've had a few rather uninteresting small plates, but honestly don't remember which ones. Interesting wine list - this past week we had an Italian barbera-pinot noir blend that was reasonably priced by the glass and bottle and paired well with the lamb. Every time I've been the chef stops by the table to check in, and the service is usually very friendly and attentive. Strongly recommended!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the prix fixe menu,I had the prix fixe menu, with stuffed avocado for salad, lahem sougar for small dish and the sage duck for the entree. All were excellent. The wines we got (a Barbera and a Malbec) were very good, too.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss this place!Best meal we've had in a long time. The menu was so creative and every thing we had was so fresh tasting and delicious, especially for those that like vegan and vegetarian meals with GF options. We are going to have to go back and try everything. It all looked amazing. The food prep seems to take a while or else they were busy but they brought out an extra appetizer to make up for our wait. I think we were the only ones with that issue though because it seemed like other people were served faster. We didn't mind though since we like taking hours to eat and we had a many course meal that night.
The only reason I rated ambiance as good and not great was that the restaurant is small which some people may like or not.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMCame back here because I hadCame back here because I had an amazing meal last May with friends. It was even better than I remembered! I brought new friends and they loved it as well. Everything we ordered was delicious.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for vegans and omnivores! What a wonderful dining experience!
Delicious food. Great service. The owner and chef came around and introduced himself after the meal. Good wine list that even has some inexpensive bottles.
Wonderful for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores.
Am definitely going back and bringing more people!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSaha is a little gem in theSaha is a little gem in the hotel carlton. It is a middle eastern restaurant that has a good menu to meat eaters and non-meat eaters. They do have prix fixe menu which you can chose what you want for $35 for one person. Not bad and the desserts are awesome. Hostess seated us early even though we were early. Good for groups but definitely had a god place for romantic dinner that isn't too romantic and quiet for some couples.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGluten Free Gem near Theater Dist.Excellent food. The menu was a treat for the 6 of us looking for a new dining experience. Also, many items Gluten free, which my daughter requires.
They were prompt, allowing us plenty of time to make a 8:00pm Theater performance.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI ordered the vegetarian fixedI ordered the vegetarian fixed price menu. Everything I ordered was phenomenal, specifically the shiitake mushroom ravioli in mango, coconut milk, mint sauce.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHeard about this restaurantHeard about this restaurant on Check Please, Bay area. It was delicious. Wanted to try lots of items on the menu. All that I selected were excellent. Food was nicely presented. Service was great. Will definitely return.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTry SahaSaha has become one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. The service is doting without intrusiveness, and the food is deliciously unique and adventurous. If that wasn't enough, there are choices for the gluten free, vegan, and meat eating population, all prepared beautifully. The menu is large enough to make it easy to return repeatedly. After eating a meal at Saha, you will want to savor the spice memory for as long as possible. This includes non-spicy flavor as well as some warmer spices. Saha is a great place to bring visitors to San Francisco. It is small and intimate so large groups might be a little hard to accommodate.
Try Saha and you will be treated to something very special.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatest meal I've had sinceGreatest meal I've had since my childhood. I will go back, again and again.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA Must not miss dining experience!Wonderful Arabic fusion with knowledgeable wait staff that do a great job making suggestions to the newcomer.
