Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic food that is beautifully presented. The service was lovely. We were thrilled to have the owner stop by to ask us how our meal was. He was sweet and funny and very entertaining. I am looking forward to going back and trying some of the other entrees."

  • "Delicious & non traditional! We had almost everything on the menu & loved it all!"

  • "Went with my wife and daughter, dad (obviously), his vegetarian girlfriend, and my 16 yo. Shared small plates of suvee octopus, fried cauliflower, meatballs, really good hummus with Caramelized paprika butter. Main courses of tagine cooked veggies, duck meatballs and lamb in a spicy green chili (oh wow) were all great. We will be going again."

  • "A place for those who want something different than the usual fare. Unique items on menu and new takes on familiar items. Late night lighting was dim--very dim."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "I took two out of town guests to Saffron's on Friday night. We had a great experience. The staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious. We ordered the sea bass (perfectly cooked), octopus (great flavor and texture) and seafood tagine (nicely spiced)."

  • "We've been here a few times and enjoyed each experience. The server is always helpful and is willing to suggest house favorites. I've also never felt bad for asking what a certain ingredient or dish even is. Our service started out great, but the server seem to get busier and we waited a while at the end of our meal for our check. But overall, a very nice experience with good food. Also, this isn't a kid-friendly place. And noise travels very easily within the restaurant."

  • " Great food: the four of us shared octopus and spreads appetizers and the lamp and seafood tagines. Oh, and a melon salad. MMMMM! with 2 bottles of 2001 Bodegas Faustino rioja. Wish we could have stayed longer and savored the evening, but we had tickets to the Lynx. Close to parking at Ramp C. We will be back."

  • "Very pleased with the unique flavors in the lamb shoulder tagine. Excellent service, friendly staff. Desserts were also wonderful. Non-alcoholic drinks were unique as we'll."

  • "I do not get to dine at Saffron enough. I love everything about this restaurant. Some exciting exotic entree always awaits. Servers are informed and helpful, but never pushy."

  • "Really enjoy Saffron and have been there twice. first time while at a conference in Minneapolis earlier this summer and was thrilled to return with my partner just this past week while traveling through Minn. The menu is creative with wonderful Middle Eastern type dishes. We loved the variety of hummus to try and lovely spices that were impeccably used on artichokes, eggplant and chanterelles that had been very recently foraged. We shared tapas like dishes as well as a main dish. The wait staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommend Saffron for a small bite or a special dinner to remember."

  • "We made a reservation mostly because the location was close to the stadium, and we were so happy with choice! The food was wonderful, and the server was very knowledgeable to help us make choices. The small plates for sharing were delicious. We really liked the fried cauliflower. The lamb chips was the big hit of the dinner entrees. The cappuccino was amazing and frothy, and it was perfect with the assorted traditional pastries."

  • "One of our favorite destinations in the Twin Cities. Attentive staff, great cocktails (try the Vieux Carre, even if it's not listed on the menu). Food is expertly prepared and delicious. Highly recommend the meatballs, gnocchi, and any lamb preparation."

  • "We were here for Restaurant Week, and holy smokes this was amazing. Even though fried cauliflower is not on the menu, we ordered it up and the flavors and spices were incredibly well balanced, perfect batter on the outside. The chocolate and brioche bread pudding was the best dessert I've had. Seconds please :)"

  • "This was the second time my significant other and I have been to Saffron and we weren't disappointed. The first time we ate there we ordered 2 tangines not realizing it would be more than we could eat. Great service, amazing food, and a romantic atmosphere."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "We took advantage of restaurant week menu and it was great. We were early diners so place was initially pretty empty. Perhaps that is the reason the wait staff was so eager to clear our plates ......we still had appetizers left on serving dish when waiter came by and whisked away our plates, leaning us with flat bread and spreads but no plate to put them on. Kinda over zealous but not by any means enough to detract from the really excellent food."

  • "You might think: how special can hummus be? but their hummus is unlike anything you can make at home or get in a store or typical lower budget lebanese restaurant. Get the "turk" preparation, with smoked paprika oil and za'atar. Also loved fried cauliflower (the batter is light and spicy) with yogurt sauce. Perhaps best of all were the slow-cooked green beans in a rich mildly spicy sauce, and our (shared) entree, a tagine with duck koftah and chickpeas. The food, while rich and flavorful, is not in the super rich every-thing-pork-belly style that has come to characterize many high end restaurants. The food at Saffron satisfies but does not leave you with a belly ache. Cocktails great, too. Outdoor seating would make this place perfect."

  • "The food was delish - hummus (how can you go wrong), meatballs (good all around), lamb BLT was Yummy but could have had more B - and the dessert (senifreddo sweet corn) was AWESOME. The bartender was impressive and she served great drinks! She also was creative for our guest that was pregnant and wanted a non-alcoholic drink."

  • "Husband and I went to Saffron to celebrate our anniversary. We shared the octopus and the duck tangine. Both were absolutely delightful. We would definitely go back just to have the duck tagine."

  • "We can count on Saffron for a wonderful meal every time we go. We took a group including four people that had not been before. Universally positive reviews from all. Tagines were great, especially the nightly seafood special. Parisian gnocchi is a must-have, along with meatballs. Cocktails are creative and delicious."

  • "Full disclosure, I served at Saffron when it opened in 2007. Working with Chef Sameh was an exciting new adventure and I quickly fell in love with his expression of Mediterranean cuisine. Having moved to Chicago at the end of 2007, I haven't been back for some time. It was so great to see the quality and passion is still there even with all of his new concepts. Some of the new dishes on the menu were the best I'd ever had, and my favorites from the original menu were as good as I remember. Kubeh are as good as I remember and the koftah were a favorite of everyone in the group. Of the new offerings the green pea flan was the most beautiful dish Ive ever had and as delicious as it looked. Always have the features, never a disappointment."

  • "Great food, good service. This place has been a go to when I want a trip down memory lane back to my life in Morocco."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Our group of 4 enjoyed sharing a variety of several small plates, salads plates and 2 main meals. Everything sounded so good we didn't want to miss tasting anything. The food was all well prepared and worth trying, definately a great place for light lunch all the way up to late night dessert or apps. Some items were slightly over priced for the quantity all though some would think 3 figs stuffed with foie gras is worth $13, I was hoping for at least 4 so we all could have tried one. These are small details so for around $70 a person with 2 drinks each (minus the sober driver) not a bad experience. Would definitely go again just to eat the desserts, amazing."

  • "Delicious food and super attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. I recommend going family style here and ordering several small dishes -- it's very fun, but still feels elegant."

  • "Saffron has long been a favorite--great, healthy food, friendly people and although the wine list is long it always has some gems on it. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I can always depend on the food being great, the service top notch and the ambience conducive to conversation. We had a party of six and all raved about their meal. This place is a no brainer when wanting or needing a lovely , enjoyable night out."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "first off, the mixed drinks were killer. The plates to share featured my favorites, giant beans, octopus, baby artichoke and an excellent scallop crudo. We then shared a branzino and a lamb tagine, both lovely and flavorful."

  • "Went there for dinner. Service was helpful and very good. Wine and food were excellent. Highly recommend."

  • "I must say that the food here exceeded my expectations. Based on the menu I knew that I would enjoy what was ordered but the food was so flavorful and satisfying that it was better than I thought it could be. Loved it."

  • "4 of us shared 8 different small plates with a great Greek red. It was wonderful and all the dishes were new to us. There are more than 8 more small plates we would like to try. Perfect place for sharing and trying. Fodd was wonderfully and flavorfully prepared and presented. Staff was knowledgable and helpful in an unobstrusive way. We will defintatley go back"

  • "Creative use of spices. Original dishes. However, the food was inconsistently prepared. The octopus appetizer was overcooked and inedible. While the original hummus was sublime."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The food is very good, although somewhat expensive, as the portions are not large. The appetizers are varied, interesting & fun to share. The servers always treat you well."

  • "As visitors to Minneapolis we always hope to land on a great find. Saffron was a winner. Our only critique was that they seemed to rush the service. The staff was attentive, but just a bit more breathing room between courses please."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "Saffron offers a wonderful array of Mediterranean appetizers, salads and entrées. Chef Sami Wadi recreates recipes to make them new. His flavorings are exquisite. Wine pairings work magic. Deserts mark a imaginative conclusion to a meal. Owner Sayed Wadi exudes a warmth that makes guests feel like friends. The ambience embraces comfort Saffron spawned World Street Kitchen, the first food truck operating in downtown Minneapolis and the restaurant by the same name at 28th and Lyndale. With Saffron and World Street Kitchen, the Wadi brothers have creatively and thoughtfully advanced the food scene in the Twin Cities."
