Saddle Peak Lodge
Not like LA at allWe had a wonderful birthday dinner for my husband on Saturday night. The restaurant felt like we were in a different world.....not LA county. Charming ambience, great food, wonderful service and very kind and friendly staff. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to feel like they are away from the hustle and bustle of LA and have great food and wine. We didn't see the outside dining area so we will have to go back and back to experience all they have to offer.
Lois B. Hopper6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLong Time FavoriteThis restaurant continues to be of the highest quality, though not inexpensive. An extensive highly regarded wine list. The food is always exceptional. Although "game" is the theme here, it is by no means the only way to go. Non-red meat eaters will enjoy the menu as much as anyone. I could go on forever.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingHad dinner here for our wedding anniversary and ordered the 8 course tasting menu and enjoyed every bite. We particularly loved the duck as well as the elk, but everything was wonderful. Everything was perfect for our special night from the seats they provided, to the decor of the room, and even the chef coming out and wishing us a happy anniversary. We plan on returning as often as we can.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Dining ExperienceLOVED having brunch here the week before Father's Day. We took my 85 y. o. father who is hard of hearing & the noise level was very quiet, which made having conversations with him very easy. There were 5 of us in our party & each of us ordered something different. All 5 brunch items were outstanding--cooked superbly, very nicely seasoned & very fresh. Three waiters served our table. Their timing was perfect. We never had to ask for a refill of coffee or water, & never felt rushed. I told the head waiter the service they gave us during brunch was comparable to the service we got on a Princess Cruise ship when we went to Glacier Bay. It was the best service we've had since the cruise 22 years ago! Atmosphere was very cozy & romantic!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchLovely family birthday brunch spot. Bobby, the maitre de, was so friendly and welcoming and made sure everything was perfect. It was! The food, service, and ambiance were all superb.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best meal I have ever had!My wife and I dined here for our aniversary and the food, service and ambiance were exquisite. The price is a little hefty but well worth it for the right special occasion. Definitly worth every penny.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treat.Beautiful retreat in the mountains minutes away from the city, but a world away from city life. Perfect special occasion spot.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was my first time there. It was my first time there. Best meal I've ever had! Want to do brunch now. Everyone should have a meal there! I will come again!!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience. Very meat-Great experience. Very meat- centric but darn good!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing gem of a restaurantThe Saddle Peak Lodge is an amazing little gem of a restaurant. I love the beautiful view of the Malibu Canyon and the food and service are first class.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy AnniversaryI have to say that the meal and service were some of the best I have had anywhere, ever! The meal was amazing, from the Wild Mushroom Agnolotti to the Venison Carpaccio appetizers, to the main courses. My wife had the New Zealand rack of lamb, which was a generously sized portion, prepared perfectly to her request, no cauliflower. I had the Wild Game trio, which was Elk, Antelope, and Squab, served with mashed potatoes and spinach, delicious. For desert we had an amazing bread pudding, quite possibly the best I have ever had. Highest marks in all categories.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy fiance and I were hereMy fiance and I were here for his birthday the other night. We enjoyed the 8-course chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. We are extreme "foodies". We always pick apart our dishes and decide what we like and what we would do differently. There was nothing out of this tasting that either of us would have changed. We found out the the exec chef is just 27 years old. What an impressive palate he has!
The menu was quite pricey but you get what you pay for. This was one of the best meals that either of us has had. It ranks us with our engagement night dinner--which at the time was the best ever(for obvious reasons).
Thank-you so much to Saddle Peak. We can't wait to go back.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe live deep in OC and soWe live deep in OC and so get up here rarely. 4 couple rendezvoused from 4 different locations and with four different experience levels with Saddle Peak and we just had a great 5 hours together. Well done again, Saddle Peak, from Venison to Trout to Elk. S.P. may be getting even better.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place for special occassionsIf you are looking for something out of the ordinary, I recommend Saddle Peak Lodge. The menu selections are not typically found in other restaurants. I had the three meat selection that included antelope, elk and buffalo. All were excellently prepared. The elk is a specialty normally on the menu and I would definitely order again. The buffalo short ribs were fall off the bone tender.
We were there celebrating an anniversary and would recommend this place fo special occassions.
Sevice overall was outstanding and they took care of the little things that show they are on top of it. Apparently our desserts were taking a little longer than expected (we didn't notice that it was slow) and the general manager came over twice to appologize.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here recently for a beerWent here recently for a beer tasting and it was very good, although I would've preferred more food with the beer to absorb the alcohol. This is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles County. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The only reason I gave the food and overall experience 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt there should've been larger portions of food served with the drinks. On the other occasions when I've dined at this restaurant, I've always given everything 5 stars.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecialWe had the 8 course chef's tasting menu and it was superb!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionWanted a quiet, romantic night to celebrate my second anniversary. When making the reservation, I requested a table by the fireplace and two roses on the table. Got both, along with "Happy Anniversary" from several of the staff. The service was outstanding, the food amazing, and the night perfect.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mid-week DinnerCelebrated a special occasion at the restaurant and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I found the traffic bad on PCH so leave early to get there. We got there in time for their happy hour and had drinks and cheese plate, highly recommended. For dinner we had the rack of lamb and the Trio. Both were excellent. We started with the venison and lobster salad. Both were good but not great. I had the white chocolate dessert which was very good. Overall very pleased with the evening.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial place for a special mealBeautiful location; unique and classic hunting lodge interior; pretty terrace; excellent menu with some unusual but really good game dishes; very high quality cuisine, always executed extremely well. Well informed and generally attentive servers, although when the restaurant is crowded the service can lag. Well worth the trip and the expense when you want a special place for a special meal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSaddle Peak is Back!!!!!Great chef, great view, wonderful selection of fish and game!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFive StarIt is a special place that I love to take my boyfriend too. Amazing food. A bit pricey but I really enjoyed my experience. Just a little crowded. Can't wait till we go there next anniversary.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe meal was spectacular,The meal was spectacular, everything was perfect. Great wines, service was all attention to the guests. A true gem. We had the 3 choices of game, antelope, buffalo and elk, the trout, the pork and lamb chops. Everything was incredible.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointedWe don't get to Saddle Peak often but are never disappointed. The service is impeccable. The wait staff pay attention to everything but are not intrusive. The food is inventive and tasty. We enjoyed the filet of beef and the salmon - both cooked to perfection. The apple salad and scallops appetizers were yummy. The rolls were just out of the oven and moist. We shared a croissant bread pudding for dessert and wish we could have had another! The atmosphere of the hunting lodge isn't for everyone but, if the hunting theme (stag head, antlers, etc) doesn't bother you (it's been there forever) it has a great warm, cozy feel. The prices are steep but it is worth it, especially for a special occasion. The perfect romantic spot to dine.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMMade for OccasionsFabulous location, and restaurant inside is out of another era. Service and food are contemporary and trustworthy, informed and delivered in a unpretentious manner. You must like to explore meats even though other entrees exist, you come to Saddle Peak to have a unique experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's More than GameI love the game dishes. This time opted for a change and had the salmon. Cooked to perfection and delicious. The soup amuse is worthy of a course itself. Chris must spend hours straining the soups because they are like velvet. New dessert menu creates a real dilemma. Hard to choose just one.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMone of the best meals we haveone of the best meals we have had in a long time..service incredible the food PERFECT4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMToo expensive for the portions.Too expensive for the portions. I had the 3-game sampling ($54). In all fairness, the server said up front it was only 3 ounces of each meat, but I even question that it was that much.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA special placeOur waiter, Garrin, helped make the dining experience even better than my last visit years ago. The delicious food, charming rustic atmosphere, excellnt service. A truly Oonderful time was had by all!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoyable for settingAlways enjoyable for setting and service. Our server Jason was excellent,. Food was outstanding and the selection of wines was top flight. I would recommend Saddle Peak to my friends.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food - the porkExcellent food - the pork chop with apple cutney was amazing! Excellent service, friendly staff and very attentive. Ambiance was cozy and romantic. I highly recommend Saddle Peak Lodge!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA fantastic and unique dininigA fantastic and unique dininig experience! Nestled deep in Malibu Canyon amongst oaks and chaparral, Saddle Peak Lodge is a lovely place to enjoy an elegant meal.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA Special PlaceThis is a very special place, perfect for a special occasion. The food is great, and the ambiance is a combination of Malibu magic and an old west Hollywood set. The service was gracious and friendly. Overall just a wonderful experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAn amazing fine dining experienceAlthough we brought our children (8 and 11) with us to the restaurant, the staff accommodated us. They are foodies like us so they enjoyed beautiful mushroom agnolotti and filet mignon. We had the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it was an experience. We were treated to meeting their executive chef who took the time to talk to us and answer our children's questions on the food she ate. This is a fine dining restaurant yet the chef didn't have any pretentious airs about him which made our dining experience even more pleasurable. The wait staff, manager, bartender were professional yet unpretentious. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be going back there for another memorable meal4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable evening.Went there for my daughter's fiancee's birthday celebration. Service was impeccable and food was good. We had a very enjoyable evening.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat more can anyone say? What more can anyone say? And the atmosphere was terrific.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMfirst time supriseour first time at this restaurant.we went on a friends reccomendation and were not dissapointed.truely a lodge in the woods atmosphere with friendly staff and knowledgeable food service. manager introduced himself within minutes of our arrival. menu has something for every palate and wine selection was boundless.excited to find some of the fare one would expect at a lodge in the mountains of british colombia or in the south island of new zealand.definately a repeat with a mindset to see the outside patio this summer.harold and frances foy3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat romantic place, I wouldGreat romantic place, I would definitely come back and recommend it.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMjean-Louis DelezenneWe have enjoyed Saddle Peak Lodge for over 25 years now ( we had our wedding party there) Still magical !
Kuddos for the chef for getting out of the regular menu way and offer some exotic fares.
Looking forward to our next dinner there3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA most outstanding eveningSaddle Peak will always be one of my favorite places. On this dining occasion, they outdid themselves. My party started out as 14 but dwindled to 6 as the date came closer; with each call to the restaurant they handled the change without any issue. I was actually happy we dropped in number as we were seated at what I now believe is the best table in the house - 3rd floor with a great view. The view was only exceeded by the amazing fare and wine. Each of my party went with the tasting menu and wine pairing and none of us were disappointed. Each course is well thought out and prepared so perfectly.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMwhat a great place. Foodwhat a great place. Food was amazing. Service was perfect. Very comfortable atmosphere. Would go back in a heartbeat.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall Nice...but fell short~!This was our first visit to SP Lodge. We had heard about it for years. Overall a nice evening, but fell a little short of our expectations. Upon our punctual arrival for our 7 pm reservation we were asked to wait in the bar for a "few minutes". The restaurant did not appear busy nor was the bar as we joined one other couple that was in there. The bar was unattended as we sat down and we waited at least 5-8 minutes before anyone came back to the bar and asked to take our order. When we finally got our drinks we had ample time to enjoy them as we did not get seated at our table till about 7:25. Similar deal when we got seated for our table is that is seemed to take a bit longer than you might expect at this type of an establishment.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect place to celebratePerfect place to celebrate our anniversary with a lovely brunch at Saddle Peak. The table was beautiful, service and food superb. Desert fantastic!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGem in the hillsThis is a sure bet if you're going for the wild. Game & trout, cooked to perfection. Great cheese plate and an impressive wine-list.
Way out in the woods - but there's still valet parking :-)
Proper attire!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHard to find at night butHard to find at night but well worth it when you arrive. Menu highlighted by a wide range of game (elk, bison, etc). Wine list is extensive and good and the bar pours a generous cocktail (try the homemade chips). We have have come here four or five times and are always very happy with the food and service. The architecture is pure lodge, very different than anything else in Malibu or LA.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA scenic hideout in the SantaA scenic hideout in the Santa Monica Mountains. I love this place for its rustic and unique takes on dishes, its lovely wines and its gorgeous country feel. A total gem in LA.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived on time for a 6pmWe arrived on time for a 6pm reservation. We were asked to wait in the bar while they checked on our table. Most tables in the restaurant were empty, yet we were not seated until 6:20pm. Unfortunately, there were no seats in the bar, stand and wait for 20 minutes was not ideal. We requested a table in front of the fireplace, we were seated at a cramped table at the side of the fireplace - we could not see the fire. While a few tables were available that did face the fireplace, we were told they were reserved for others that made a reservation before us. Next time, we will ask to be seated upstairs since it seems those that supposedly reserved prior to us were of "celebrity" status and thus more important. Food was very good.1/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
