Saddle Peak Lodge, where rustic ambiance meets a sophisticated palate.

The former hunting lodge maintains a warm and rustic décor, features two fireplaces, outdoor dining, and views from the second- and third-floor rooms.

Chef Christopher Kufek prepares contemporary American comfort food with an emphasis on hearty wild game, fish, seasonal ingredients, and local produce and welcomes you to try the 5- or 8-course Chef's Tasting menus.

To complement the food, the wine list focuses on American boutique wines difficult to find on many other lists. Our bartenders prepare classic and old-fashioned cocktails as well as modern versions of the classics. We invite you to come to our wine and scotch dinners and beer luncheons, which have received rave reviews.

  • "Enjoyed this place. Booked it for a special occasion and it did not fail. The food was wonderful and the staff was friendly. I will definitely be back."

  • "My daughter and I had Sunday brunch at Saddle Peak Lodge, and it was pretty perfect. It is a gorgeous place. The food was excellent. I had the best quiche I have ever had - plus it was stunningly beautiful deep dish affair. We had the wild sausage sampler for appetizer that was so unusual and wonderful. The service was great. We felt pampered, but not hovered over, and we felt very comfortable taking our sweet time in such a lovely setting."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary at this restaurant over the weekend. The service was excellent and we could not have had a more pleasant dining experience. We ordered the tasting menu along with the 3-part game menu. Everything was delicious. The hunting lodge ambiance was very inviting. Sitting by the window, we took in beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and canyon. We had a 5 pm reservation and think that is the way to go to avoid the crowds."

  • "The Sunday Brunch is nice, indoors or on the patio. Service is fair, very inattentive once they take the order. We ordered drinks and a glass of water each. Drinks were delivered, but it took 15 minutes before the water was poured. We did order more drinks, but they never removed the dirty glasses, or dirty appetizer dishes. They just brought the entrees and new drinks, never refilled the water glasses and never returned until it was time to deliver the bill. Food was good, quiche, benedict, boars sausage, french toast, all good. They were not that busy - just inattentive in terms of cleaning and water refill."

  • "You can cut the ambiance with a Knife! it's one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to! they can handle special requests without a hitch! The service is excellent, warm and friendly, I've been going there for over 20 years and every time I go the experience gets better and better, (I proposed to my wife there!) So take a date, Wife or significant other, you wont be sorry!!!"

  • "This restaurant maybe tucked away in the hills, but once experienced never forgotten. Impressive from Appetizer thru Dessert, not to mention the staff - amazing."

  • "We had friends visiting from out of town and this was the perfect location to impress them. Sunday brunch was terrific and the service was outstanding. We will definitely return."

  • "My friend and I tried the chef's seven-course tasting menu for his birthday. We were delighted with all courses and their wine pairings, trying to savor each as long as we could, and all while luxuriating in atmosphere and superior service. Saddle Peak Lodge upheld its charm once again while making an exceptional first impression on my friend who had never been."

  • "One of my favorite place to dine. I had a closing dinner party at the Saddle Peak Lodge with 4 executive and their spouse whom loved atmosphere, food, service and etc."

  • "Even for those who are vegetarians or who are "moving" to become one, dining in an old mountain hunting lodge that is Saddle Peak Lodge is a memorable experience. The chef(s) prepare visually appetizing and delicious servings of environmentally-conscious game and other protein that is not found anywhere else in Los Angeles. We haven't had anything there that we didn't like, from the vegetable-based soups to the sweetest desserts. The service is second to none, and the atmosphere is what the Santa Monica Mountains is all about."

  • "The gorgeous Saddle Peak Lodge used to be a functioning lodge for hunters (or so my husband told me), and it maintains that rustic, outdoorsy feel, simultaneously providing an elegant dining atmosphere. Maybe you just have to be there to get it. But it was perfect for us, sipping champagne under a mounted moose and some spectacular elk horns. They have a seasonal wild game sausage plate, which for us included a cognac pheasant sausage that was so delicious I could eat it every day. And they were playing really great early jazz, not too loud. And even though I didn't tick "great for groups" or "great or kids", there were both while we were there, and everyone seemed happy enough. We certainly were!"

  • "We were not disappointed. The head waiter and staff were friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful. I had the lamb, it couldn't have been more tender or juicy. My husband had a drink with bacon in it! He was so excited! The game sampler had Elk, Bison and 1 other meat (can't remember). In our online reservation we had mentioned it was our 34th anniversary, and when they brought the molten cake dessert the edge of the plate was decorated in chocolate with Happy 34th Anniversary and a small candle (but no signing, thank you) Our bill was over $200 but we had planned on this, hadn't been there for 20 years, won't wait so long till next time."

  • "Saddle Peak Lodge, known for its game menu of elk, venisson, and other wild game prepares and cooks your meals in ways that never disappoints. From elk even more delicate and savory as the best filet mignon, to traditional meals of pork chops and salad, there is something for everyone. And for everyone is the spectacular ambience and location in the Malibu HIlls halfway between Calabasas and Malibu. You can't miss for special occasions or just for something different. The wait staff is fabulous, and the chef cooks up a meal to die for. Very well done."

  • "My wife and I took close friends, to Saddle Peak Lodge for their first time. It was a perfect evening celebrating the husband's birthday. When we drove home, he told us it was one of one of the best b-day's he'd ever had and he would be returning."

  • "Every time I've gone to Saddle Peak a special memory has been created. The combination of food, location and service work together to accomplish a truly unique experience. Trying eating on the patio, the waterfall and landscaping are beautiful."

  • "Saddle Peak never disappoints. My wife and I have been there for anniversaries and birthdays and thoroughly enjoy our dining experience at each occasion. From food, to service, to ambience, they simply get it right. We look forward to many more romantic and special occasions at Saddle Peak. We've heard that early evening happy hours on their patio are the best scene in town. We're soon to find out."

  • "We all had the Chef's tasting menu. All I can say is "fabulous!" Tip, if you bring your own wine, purchase it from Woodland Hills Wine Co. and ask them to put their I.D. Sticker in it and you won't be charged a corkage by Saddle Peak."

  • "This restaurant is hard to get to from mid town or the Westside but of you like game, i.e. Venison, buffalo, elk, this the place to eat. The hunting lodge atmosphere is romantic and cozy. The food is excellent and they have a nice and affordable wine list. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "This is a one of a kind place with original dishes prepared by a top notch chef always. The service is always personal and attentive. It is one of my favorite places to go. My first experiences was with my new husband on New Year's Eve 4 years ago and my most recent was with my good girlfriends for brunch last Sunday. I love this restaurant. It never disappoints."

  • "We didn't realize when we made the reservation that it was only a brunch menu; however, we were not disappointed. We were very happy with the varied menu that satisfied everyone in our party. The three sausage sampler of boar, duck and deer was excellent and we also thought the lamb sandwich and quiche were very, very good. Our only complaints were that the seating was very tight and two parties in our small room had very small children who were very vocal which did detract from our experience. It would have been more enjoyable if the parties with the children could have been seated in an area which addressed their needs for space. Also there is a slight "old" smell to the place, but it would not keep us from returning."

  • "I had not been to the Saddle Peak Lodge for years and we it to celebrate our anniversary this year. It's still magical driving through the canyon and pulling up to the restaurant and the building is as lovely as ever, that wonderful hunting lodge feel with fireplaces ablaze. We arrived a bit early and were pleased when they were able to seat us. Things went downhill from there. The service was not what I expect when I'm paying $40 to $50 for an entree. They brought out a demitasse of soup, which was a nice touch. We ordered the gnocchi and we agreed that the soup doubled as the sauce for the gnocchi! The rest of the meal was only average and we left without ordering dessert as we were so disapponted with the wine, food, and service."

  • "First time at Saddle Peak, and we had a really wonderful evening. Greeted warmly, professionally, and seated within a few minutes of arrival. Server (Choley) was knowledgeable and patient, and all wait staff were very gracious and attentive. We brought our own Champagne and wine, handled perfectly, with very reasonable corking fee. Starting with an incredible savory bread, and marvelous complimentary mushroom soup, the flavors and refinement were obvious. Endive and Apple Salad, Seared Scallop, and Oyster appetizers were all exquisite and delicious. Elk, Salmon and Lamb entrees were amazing. Lamb was beautiful presentation and creative fusion of incredible flavors, perfectly seasoned and prepared, just marvelous. Thanks to all."

  • "We've been many times here and especially enjoy bring family who is visiting from out of town. NEVER has anyone we've brought walked away hungry or made a negative comment about the food, atmosphere, service or experience. That's obviously why we keep coming back."

  • "When making the reservation we noted that it was our anniversary, the restaurant gave us a personalized message on our dessert plate with a special candle. it was very nice."

  • "We had a party of 8 for a birthday celebration. The ambiance, the wonderful food and the impeccable service all made it a very special evening. There was something for everyone, and we felt very relaxed and welcomed."

  • "This was my 11th or 12th visit to this restaurant over many years - I think it is our last visit. The ambience is great - a real log building. So if you want to go for an anniversary or some other special occasion - go - especially on a cool winter night. But be prepared for marginal service - you get the distinct feeling that they could not care less if you are there. The menu is always interesting in that it is different -esp for LA. But the quality is really just ok especially considering the fact that this is an expensive restaurant - it is clearly over priced for the level of food prep and service, but I guess you are paying for the ambiance. The valet parking guy was great - walked with a limp but hustled more than was necessary."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at Saddle Peak Lodge with the tasting menu and our own special bottle of Pride merlot. The food and service could not possibly have been any better! The French kiss oysters were the best we've ever eaten! Each course was elegantly presented and extremely tasty, and each was a pleasant and interesting surprise. Our waiter was knowledgable, both about the food and the wine (he commended on the bottle we had brought). My wife stopped a passing employee at one point with a question (not our waiter) and he responded with as much enthusiasm and knowledge as if he owned the place. We ate in the library room in front of the fireplace, and the low fire provided just the right touch without overheating the room. Perfect!"

  • "It dawned on me as we were leaving the restaurant after dinner, we have been coming to Saddle Peak Lodge for 26 1/2 years. It has never disappointed us as being the place to dine for special occasions. This evening was a wonderful relaxing dinner - and the food was amazing. So often on Valentine's Day everything is rushed, so we went to dinner after Valentine's Day. It was truly romantic. The menu is always fun and you should try something unique. The flavors with their pork dish that I had and their lamb were incredible. We have dined in Europe and all over the U.S. and I have to say that this restaurant is always a favorite!"

  • "Loved the old world hunting lodge theme. Takes you back in time. Food so good, presentation so amazing, service staff unbelievable.... all of L.A. could take lessons from this restaurant. Unfortunately perfection comes at a high price. We each had a salad and main course (she had Seabass and I had wild game trio). Two cocktails and one cappucino. Bill with tax, tip, parking was a bit over $200...ouch"

  • "Our first time to try SPL. I'm not a big red meat or game eater. That being said, the sea bass was phenomenal. Wonderful wine selection as well!"

  • "I have wanted to go to Saddle Peak Lodge for about five years now. I had put it off for one reason or another, but, finally, decided to make reservations for my wife (of just over a year) and I. One word: impeccable. There are not words for how perfect everything was! The environment, location and menu all amounted to an extremely well done dinner. This place is a must for any and every occasion. Whether it be Valentine's Day or Thursday, your evening will be one to remember."

  • "I've been around the world, traveled to many places and had the best of foods all through our nation. I can say that dinner at Saddle Peak Lodge was the best dinner I've had anywhere. The menu is perfect for any type of need. It was prefect!!!"

  • "After reading many reviews with high recommendations , we booked a reservation on Valentine's Day. The decor is beautiful and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. But for the food, maybe with too much expectation , I was so disappointed and don't like to try the elk and waygu steak again, because the elk had a bit of smell and the steak's texture was a bit of tough too. Overall, don't think the food is worth the money."

  • "This is a fun place to take out-of-town guests. It's different and has history. The food was excellent and the service supreme. I don't eat meat, so ordered salmon. It was done to perfection, melted in my mouth. The vegetables were interesting and various. My companions ordered steak and were quite happy. Portions are fairly ample...but we still had room for dessert, chocolate coffee pot de creme, which was remarkable. We plan to go back."
