  • "My husband and I recently celebrated our 2nd anniversary at The Sacred Cod on a Sunday evening. The meal was exquisite, as was the service. We had eaten there one other time, and it was equally enjoyable. Can't say enough about how wonderful the place is. We'll definitely be coming back, and will recommend to others!!"

  • "Be willing to have an open mind. Every dish we had was delicious. Waiter gave us good feedback when asked about dishes."

  • "This Tavern at the gorgeous Chatham Bars Inn is unremarkable in appearance and ambiance: simply a large space with a vaulted ceiling and no focal point. The flounder tasted of oil and no discernible spices or flavoring. The peas and mushrooms also tasted of oil and were rubbery, as if they had been reheated. The service, on the other hand, was exemplary, the waitress gracious and attentive. Although I continue to be seduced by the overall campus, and in particular this inn, I will avoid future meals in the Tavern. Perhaps a drink in the lively bar?"

  • "We went to Sacred Cod to celebrate my birthday. The staff was very attentive to the fact that I was vegan and took the time to point out options that I could have on the menu. The service itself was a bit slow. My husband's clam chowder was lukewarm by the time it arrived and our drinks sat empty for quite awhile. The ambiance was nice and the location on the water was lovely. The food quality was good overall. The scallops were pan seared and cooked perfectly. My quinoa and veggies en papillote was nicely seasoned with mustard greens. I would go back again to give the a second try. It was Memorial Day weekend, so as my husband pointed out, perhaps they were working the kinks out."

  • "We enjoyed the food & casual tavern atmosphere. Good service & beautiful decor but what could be bad at the Chatham Bars Inn ?!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal here on a Friday night. The service was impeccable. However, it was very noisy due to the people in the bar. Also, we expected to have an ocean view but this is an interior restaurant, so, alas, there was none! We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, and the dessert was not only delicious, but also a work of art!! "

  • "I took my mother and father there for Mothers Day and the food was Delicious! Get the salmon, best I've had! After I made reservations CBI called me to verify the res. and asked if I wanted anything special. If you want a great meal go to any of the restaurants at CBI!"

  • "We had an Easter lunch with grandchildren on a beautiful sunny day, though the pub itself has no view, we enjoyed the atmosphere, and wait staff was attentive and kind. Terrific view from outside the inn. Food was wonderful and satisfied all. The shrimp and asparagus appetizer shared by all, and the clam chowder got rave reviews."

  • "My husband and I had dinner here with my mother-in-law and found the food to be EXCELLENT. Perfectly cooked fish, great chowder, beautiful desserts. The only sour note, was the couple with 3 children who repeatedly allowed their 2 or 3 year old son to be really loud (Crying, whining, screeching; clearly, the kid was tired and just needed to go to bed.) Rather than have one of the parents take the kid up to their room, they hung around for a second round of drinks.... The hotel staff didn't/wouldn't do anything about it. I get that it's a delicate situation, but do you sacrifice the experience of your entire dining room for one set of inconsiderate parents? I wish they'd had the backbone to do right by the rest of us."

  • "The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The bar is off the dining room, so you don't feel like you are having a true fine dining experience. You could go to the other restaurant at Chatham Bars Inn for that. This was perfect for us - upscale food, fun coctails - and we could wear jeans. "

  • "Aside of a young Maitre d' mix up on our reservation while seating us, we enjoyed our evening. The food presentation was awesome and the Inn is well maintained"

  • "The hostess was very friendly and our server was very attentive. We had flatbread pizzas which were very good. I started with clam chowder which I was surprised to learn was a very hearty bowl-ful. My husband had veggie fritters which at $10 a plate we felt was a little steep for what he got. The ambience was great though and overall we enjoyed our experience."

  • "We had a wonderful meal. My concerns were that table was to close to large group at next table. Also there was two screaming small children two tables away. There were three or four waiters who served us and when the meal came the waitress had no clue as to who ordered which meal. The food I must say was outstanding."

  • "We had the most wonderful server. A young lady from Europe. The food was the best. A lovely valentine evening"

  • "The combination bar and casual dining restaurant is comfortable and unassuming. It is the little brother of STEAKS, CBI's premier restaurant. The two have separate kitchens. My wife and I had flounder and it was excellent prepared and served. in the past food quality has been uneven, but the chef delivered this time just fine."

  • "Located inside a beautiful seaside inn with impeccable view and grounds....it is hard to beat Chatham!"

  • "We enjoyed Christmas dinner in the tavern. It was a somber occasion for us, and it provided excellent food, service, and a quiet, but beautiful ambiance. The decorations were beautiful, and the view is spectacular."

  • "Went for Christmas dinner Not festive at all. Dull old furnishings and decor. Very little Christmas decoration or ambiance."
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "It was all perfectly fine, if a little on the expensive side. I just had a bit of a hard time paying that price and not being wowed by the food. But it will meet expectations."

  • "Any place at Chatham Bars Inn is special. You can't beat the ambiance but I found the food at the Sacred Cod to be not up to par and very pricey! Child's lunch was $14 The lobster roll was good but the salad of the day was skimpy and nothing specia and the cracker bread was extremely seasoned w/cumin and tons of black & white sesame seeds. Service was good and waitress and manager/host was very pleasant."

  • "Food was just ok. Service was just ok. Atmosphere was just ok. Not at all what was expected from Chatham Bars Inn. Greatly overpriced for a mediocre experience."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "I was disappointed by the service, not because of our server as she was very good but because of the lack of server which made her job really difficult. The service was extremely slow."

  • "Selected this restaurant based on the distance from where we were staying. Menu on Open Table had enough variety to meet diverse preferences but it wasn't anything special. The restaurant was very different from what we expected - in all of the best ways. It wasn't a dark little Cape tavern with a modest offering of chowdah and bar food. It was a beautiful, well appointed dining room, high ceilings with a fabulous chandelier. The menu featured locally sourced produce, seafood as well as chicken, beef or duck that enticed you to want to sample everything. Snacks, small plates, and sides were prepared to highlight novel seasonal pairings that would standout in any Manhattan chef's Bon Appetit spread."

  • "The bar was very crowded and noisy. We waited over 40 mins. for a table and then when we were seated, it was not in the small dining room (which I had requested) but in the still noisy but less crowded bar. While the food and service were OK, we were there for a birthday dinner and I was disappointed to be having a $100+ dinner sitting at a tiny table in a bar with a baseball game playing in the background. Definitely wouldn't go back to this venue."

  • "The food was very good but robotic service and almost empty dining room"

  • "I ordered a nice bottle of champagne as the dinner was a celebration. It was WARM, certainly not cold, but actually warm. The waitress stood there with no idea what to do to help us. I recommended two glasses of champagne and she couldn't connect the concept. She certainly wasn't trained to provide good service, but to just do the basics. I should have rejected the bottle and stuck with glasses! I have been coming to Chatham for 50+ years, not a one stop visitor. Usually I am with men in the party to CBI, but not Friday. I don't ever recall getting this type of treatment when the men were around. Is it not a place for three women to dine?"

  • "It's the Hampton's of Cape Cod. Expensive cars, moms and daughters in matching outfit, and 10 year old boys in khakis and blue blazers. It's as pretentious as it gets. Reminded me of Bushwood from Caddy Shack. The food and service were very good though."

  • "We ate here twice during our visit to the Chatham Bars Inn. The first night we had a 6:15 PM reservation. Big mistake. We seemed to be the only couple without small children and it was a madhouse. We returned two days later for an 8 PM reservation and a completely different atmosphere. The food was very good as was the service. The tables, however, are very small and too close together.. I would recommend to couples without children that a later reservation is a must."

  • "Seafood should be outstanding at this price and this close to water but was only fair. Stripe bass was salty scallops slightly rubbery. Calamari snack was good, on the other hand Given the asking price all should be great. Very nice atmosphere and service"

  • "The ambience was nice, but it was the "tavern" of a very beautiful resort. The food was good -- we had oysters, brick chicken, prime rib burger, Greek pizza and rosemary parmesan pizza and everyone was happy with their meals. We had two teenagers with us and the menu variety worked well. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The valet parking was well run and made getting in and out easy."

  • "For our stay in Chatham, we were searching for an upscale restaurant. The tavern is open to the public not like the other restaurants at the Inn. From start to finish, the meal and service were top-notch."
    Dined on 8/7/2013
  • "What we noticed was the kid-friendly nature. The very, and double underline friendy wait staff did an excellet job of catering to the younger crowd. Our food was well prepared--the calamari was very well done and the scallops were perfectly cooked. A very plesant change from all the fried fish/ long line/ poor service locations found all over Cape Cod."

  • "Have been dining at CBI for 20 years and for the past several I continue to ask myself why. What was once a treat in the dining room or a safe bet in the tavern has become an experience that is soon forgotten. The charm and ambience that was once a given at this Chatham landmark is slowly drifting out to sea. We (4) were not even in our chairs before water was being poured in our glasses and we were being asked about drinks. I realize the opposite is usually the problem, but in our case we were dancing around the wait staff as they were extremely eager to serve. The rapid fire service continued throughout the entire evening which made us feel extremely rushed. Food was fair, atmosphere was loud, would recommend for larger parties."

  • "The service was friendly but of mixed efficiency, the staff seemed at times to be at odds with one another. The specials were good but the staples, for the Cape, (chowder, etc.) were unremarkable. Some will find the quality and prices out of synch, but the location is great if you're planning on walking down to the shore or relaxing in the lobby."

  • "Our service was excellent. She was very friendly and knowledgable. Their wine list is extensive and their food was cooked to perfection. The presentation of their food, from their oysters through to their entries, were well done. Great experience and we will definitely return the next time we are on the Cape."

  • "The overall venue is beautiful. But the Tavern is small, dark, and nothing special. I would suggest you park, walk the grounds, and then eat somewhere else."
