A word from Sabrosa
Sabrosa's kitchen offers guests the opportunity to enjoy recipes rooted in culture and brimming with authentic Mexican flavors. Influenced by Jose's experience growing up on his family’s farm in Guanajuato, Mexico, each dish is prepared with ingredients derived from the organic and sustainable agricultural bounty of Northern California.

From the bar guests can indulge in simple and seasonal cocktails made to compliment Jose's dishes. Sabrosa's bar program is lead by mixology veteran Matt Stanton, and offers a variety of hand crafted cocktails and margaritas, an expansive beer and wine list, and over 24 thoughtfully selected tequilas and mezcals.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a terrific experience at Sabrosa. The tacos and ceviches are the best we have had anywhere in San Francisco and the cocktails are fresh and outstanding as well. Attentive, friendly service. Highly recommend Sabrosa."

  • "The ambiance of Sabrosa is welcoming and marries a traditional Spanish and Latin American elements with a fresh and modern feel. Unfortunately, the beautiful ambiance was not matched by the quality of food. The food was poorly seasoned (some underseasoned and some overseasoned). We ordered the ceviche con fruta, kale & beet ensalata, pescado, pollo pipian and seafood stew. The ceviche had very little fish. The pescado was listed on the menu as featuring halibut however when the dish arrived the kitchen had replaced the halibut with overcooked salmon. Our server had not informed the table of the substitution and appeared to be unaware that the kitchen had even replaced the halibut with the salmon."

  • "Tina was a great server. nice table, accommodating..great food. friendly bar staff. we loved it!"

  • "The food was not that great, especially for the price. $200 for four people (we got 2 pitchers at $32 each, guacamole to share and one entree each). The food was really sub-par. Our server was great, but I will not be going back. There's way too many good places to eat in SF and this can't compete."

  • "This place always hits the spot. The ingredients are really high quality and everything is super fresh. Also the mezcal margaritas are amazing and you can get them by the pitcher. It can get a little packed and a bit loud on friday and saturday night so I usually try to go weeknights or for brunch. "

  • "Was very much looking forward to trying out the new, highly acclaimed place in the neighborhood. Was pretty disappointed. The service was friendly but very poor. It was very slow, from getting the wine, to getting our salads to getting our entrees. Our appetizer was forgotten, and brought after the salads (and comped). Our wine took over 15 mins to arrive, and then our server broke the cork in trying to open it. My guest got the wrong entree. The place was loud, and the food was just spotty (crab salad was bland, chicken salad was good). Might stop by for a snack and a drink, but not worth the effort and noise for dinner. I think this place has a bit of a mixed identity...bar or restaurant. Think it needs to sort itself out."

  • "Having worked in restaurants for years there is a minimum level of service that I think is expected by patrons. We did not even receive minimum service at Sabrosa. It wasn't busy and yet we waited 15+ minutes for water and to be visited by our server. By the time he did come by we ordered everything at once (drinks, apps and main course). We waited another 10 mins for our drinks which we saw sitting on the bar (beer and wine). By the time our food came, we were surprised it was still warm. It was so salty that we were pounding water. We couldn't wait for the meal to be over and were disappointed we chose to spend out money at Sabrosa. "

  • "Good food. Strong bar vibe, even though it purports to be a restaurant first. We went for dinner on Tuesday night and there weren't too many people there, but I'm sure it would be full of people drinking tequila on a Friday or Saturday night."

  • "Great food at a reasonable price! 3 of us ate appy's and a meal along with a jug of margarita and teh total was $100. Which is great I think!"

  • "The food and cocktails were really delicious. We will be back again soon."

  • "Great food and great service...very vibrant scene on a Saturday so it can be noisy "

  • "Good food and service I would have rated it higher however, it was confusing if this was more a bar or restaurant. The bar area both physically and from a sound standpoint really encroached on the seating area. Young techie crowd which seems the be the norm these days in that area. This would be a great place to go with a group of friends for a birthday celebration! I would come back"

  • "Good Mexican food here, but uneven: amazing guacamole, but a tired tasting ceviche. Great empanadas. "

  • "Excellent Mexican food, the kind you find in better restaurants in major cities of Mexico, with classic mole sauces and ingredients, very well prepared, and very different from the taquerias and average Mexican restaurants you commonly find in the US. The service was very good. However, they packed you tightly at small tables, and at times you bumped elbows with your companions. The acoustics in the room echoed the clamor and chatter of the mostly young clientele. The name of the restaurant, "Sabrosa," a Spanish word meaning "tasty or flavorful," is quite fitting."

  • "We had a tremendous meal here. Robust flavors in the ceviche. The fish entree has a semi spicy tomato sauce that is amazing. We tried the carnitas plate as well, which you roll into home made warm tortillas and apply salsa and pickled veggies. Awesome!"

  • "I went with a few girl friends for Sunday brunch on a lovely afternoon. Great patio and they were able to reserve us a spot outside with no issues, which was great. The food we ordered was hit and miss, and we never received our appitizers. The service was friendly and helpful just a little slow on the bill. I might try this restaurant again in a year or so - or just for drinks, once they have the kinks worked out."

  • "Our party tried 7 different ultra tasty dishes and we loved absolutely everything. Will be back again soon."

  • "We have gone here twice and have enjoyed it both times. Be prepared for it to be VERY noisy even if it is not full..But the food is awesome. Best margaritas I have had in a while. Fantastic quesidillas and guacamole. Also had a delicious mole short rib thing. Order several things and share. Worth the trip. But don't plan on having an intimate conversation. We could barely hear out waitress it was so loud. But delicious and LIVELY!"

  • "Food is great but the noise level is unreal. With the high ceilings and cement floors, when the restaurant gets full, it's nearly impossible to have a conversation with the people you're with."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "The noise level is unacceptable for a restaurant. Food needs lots of work. Service was friendly. They took care of a few drinks because they don't offer desserts."

  • "Great house margarita. The seafood ceviche was like nothing I've ever tried before. Very unique and flavorful dishes - a must try if you're looking a a new upscale Mexican spot."

  • "A very interesting menu with some very tasty items. However, our group was frequently looking for the wait staff. The restaurant was half-empty at the time so it did not seem very crowded or hectic, but it just seemed to take a while to even do things like get the check."

  • "Great good, and very good margaritas. This place badly needs some sound-deadening - it's all flat hard surfaces and full of loud Marina folks..On Saturday night, I basically had to shout loudly across a table for conversation and could still barely hear, and then go home with ringing ears. Will be back for cocktails - doubt I could stand the noise again."

  • "I love what they have done to this place! The old place "city tavern" doesn't even come close to what they have turned this place into. You can get a well prepared meal, a DELICIOUS cocktail and still not be at a frat party in the marina. It is so conveniently located and the service was great. The interior design is so awesome, the energy is great, personalities of staff are energetic and it helps they are all attractive ;) I love the ambiance of this restaurant and can't wait to bring my family here for brunch!"

  • "First time really enjoyed the food but the noise level was way too much me."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The food was good and the service was so so, but the noise level was unbearable! Could hardly hear yourself think, let alone talk to the people at your table. The design looks good to the eye but all of the tile and concrete is not doing any favors to the noise."

  • "We had an amazing meal at Sabrosa. You have to try the Tlacoyo. The agua chile ceviche is a bargain at $13. The Pasilla chicken is awesome. Never had better mexican food anywhere. The cocktails ( the spicy Macho Margarita Is a must) are equally impressive and the service was friendly and professional. Great restaurant."

  • "We loved the food, the service and the margaritas are some of the best I have tasted. Very different, high end Mexican. We shared a couple of things and were very full. Very friendly waiter and good service. The Tacos were a little weird but everything else we ate was divine! Great chips and guac, fantastic quesidillas. the margaritas do pack a punch so be careful! We will return again soon!"

  • "From the initial booking to closing out the bill, the customer service was excellent. Hostess and manager onsite were extremely accommodating for SuperBowl Sunday -giving us opportunity to sit directly below the TVs and turning up the volume w/out turning it into sports bar craziness. Bartender was authentic -based on where he was from, his excitement to create and offer unique and spot on margaritas for the group and engagement and excitement for what he specialized in. Love the decor/ambiance/vibe/energy of the place/staff/offering. Excited for Sanbrosa and what it is offering /bringing to the old Marina."

  • "....hopes dashed. Beyond noisy! All hard surfaces so that, even as crowd thinned, the noise level made conversation difficult. Food okay, odd potion sizes, pleasant service but none of us would return."

  • "Sabrosa has become our favorite restaurant in the city. The fresh organic ingredients and flavors keep us coming back. The tostada with crab, the agua chile rojo ceviche, and the blackened ribeye are all top notch. We enjoyed the micheladas and the macho margaritas. And now some excellent new desserts have been added. Try the flan and chococate cake."

  • "I had an ok experience here. Everything was fine - the food was interesting, the service was ok (not great) the server was friendly. The ambiance was ok; the lighting is a little off and there are lots of hard surfaces so it was quite noisy and hard to hear everyone. They accommodated our group of six quite comfortably. But they wouldn't seat us until at least four of us showed up, which was not preferable but it was fine. OVerall I had no problems, had an enjoyable time. But in a sea of great options this one doesn't stand out. I probably won't be going back."

  • "This place is new, but the kitchen has it going on. Can't wait to return for dinner. We ordered a few apps and the ceviche did not disappoint. The Margaritas are excellent!"

  • "The food was excellent. The service was terrific. The decor is very nice. But, the noise level is absolutely unbearable and I was there early in the evening when the restaurant was only about half full. As a result, we will not return for dinner unless we dine outside on the sidewalk which I prefer not to do. I will try it again at lunch time when, hopefully, it is not as noisy. I thought Mamacita, a few blocks away, and Nopa were noisy but this place out does them both."

  • "Great food and service! A little loud. A lot of little kids running around during a Saturday night dinner, maybe better for a late night meal if you're out on a date or with a group of friends."
