Sable Kitchen & BarFantasticWow. What a fantastic night. We sat in a booth near the kitchen. We got about six plates to share and each one was fantastic.
Highlights Corn pudding Brûlée so amazing. Sliders! Yum.
Champagne and wine great! Service was fantastic!!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ambiance was great, theThe ambiance was great, the food delicious, our server topnotch. One problem, the place was so loud at 7:15pm you could not hear yourself think.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic BrunchMy wife and I went for mother's day brunch and were very pleased. We've never been here before and I would highly recommend it. They have an option on their menu to order a small plate or a large plate which (as they suggested) gave us the opportunity to try a few small plates and share them. Chicken & Waffles was perfect, Shrimp and Grits was a flavor and texture masterpiece and the pork belly sliders were tender and succulent. We had mentioned in our open table reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary as well and the chef made a point to come to our table and personally greet us. The entire staff was very down to earth and friendly. Everyone there went out of their way to assure we had a good experience. I highly recommend it!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous RestaurantWe all felt really nice and welcomed in the restaurant. Food overall is amazing.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingHits all cylinders in every department. Fantastic interesting food & cocktails, engaging helpful service, beautiful space, and hip crowd. The small plates actually had much more generous portions than I was used to from this type of format, so that the two of us ended up with more food than we expected. Sadly, that didn't leave room for the interesting looking desserts.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFun Food, Fun AtmosphereWent with my sister, who was visiting from out of town, on a Friday night. Our server, whose name escapes me at the moment, was fantastic. I have Celiac disease, so it's important to me that the people I speak to in a restaurant seem aware and knowledgeable of gluten containing items on their menu. Our server went over the entire menu with me, pointing out what I absolutely couldn't have and what could be modified. The small plates option makes it easy to order several items to share. We had kale chips, the cheese board, the crazy-good sweet corn creme brûlée, short rib sliders, South Indian vegetable curry and strip steak. One small note, the menu differs slightly from the version online, several items I wanted to try were not available.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent andThe food was excellent and not over priced, which is rare for rivernorth. We enjoyed the mussels, lamb burgers, beet salad- all were amazing. The service was outstanding.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMy first outstanding reviewMy first outstanding review on Open Table and I have completed hundreds. Excellent execution, interesting food and very good service for a dinner meal. A new favorite in Chicago.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI love the concept for brunchI love the concept for brunch that Sable is trying to promote. However, they tended to be too inflexible when it came to everyone at the table getting their food at the same time. The food itself also needs tweeking. I had the chicken and waffles with bourbon butter and syrup. The chicken was over salted and the waffles, although cute, where soggy from the syrup upon arrival. Get the syrup on the side. Also, all the bourbon did was sour the syrup. There was no real bourbon flavor. The gravlox was tasty but really over seasoned - really salty and the bread was hard to eat. Dinner is probably better.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSable is A plusTerrific food with numerous options both in type of cuisine and in price. Creative and classic cocktails made carefully and beautifully. The "Fence's End" I had was truly imaginative and delicious. Our waiter, Marty, was an engaging and attentive server.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMhigh end food for sharinggreat selections of food for sharing. Fairly substantial portions given how fancy it is. The place is usually busy, make reservations in advance. A little loud too - good for groups.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThankfully we arrived a fewThankfully we arrived a few minutes late for our reservation because we had to wait about 25 minutes for our table. The hostess was very apologetic and found us a table at the bar immediately. Overall, the food was exceptional, and we loved being able to see in the kitchen! Definitely would done here again.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect dining experience...Perfect dining experience... incredible food, service, and environment. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend Sable, and can't wait to come back!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, great cocktail list.Great, great cocktail list. Interesting twists on comfort food. Enjoyed the staff.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat sevice. Excelent food.Great sevice. Excelent food. Great wine. A little, but it is worth every pennie.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FindThis is a truly great place to dine. We had travel delays, and had to change our reservation several times, and each time, they were understanding and accommodating. The bartenders made great drinks, and the food was delicious. Really liked that there were 2 sizes of each plate on the menu. This gives you the opportunity to try many different items. We had the bacon wrapped dates, short-rib sliders, and chicken and waffles. All were excellent! We will go back next time we're in Chicago!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI had been there for a businessI had been there for a business dinner while staying at the Palomar Hotel and found it so good, that had to go back on my next trip to Chicago to take my son there. It is great for groups because most plates are for sharing. Great eclectic menu. Loved it all. The pork belly is the best!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrfic Place!Second time for brunch and, if possible, the food seemed better than the first visit - absolutely delicious. But I want to give a huge compliment on the service we received: we arrived 45 minutes before our reservation to a packed house. The staff did a wonderful job quickly finding us a comfortable table.
This is a great place for the food and the service - anxious to go back and try the bar.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, fun small plates forGreat, fun small plates for brunch! Excellent service.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Brunch in River NorthI've been to Sable a few times after work for drinks with friends but this was the first time I tried their brunch. Everything we tried was great, I love that they carry over their small plates to breakfast too. We were able to try a lot of different things this way. As always it's important to make a reservation here.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSable is a gem in every way.Sable is a gem in every way. All was perfect: the service at the bar, the greeting by the hostess and maitre d', our server. The wine list was extrardinary, with plenty of affordable, excellent wines. Our food was over the top. The best restaurants highlight the ingredients, preparation, and appearance, not enormous servings. Sable gets 5 stars for everything! Oh to live in Chicago and visit this restaurant monthly!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the chicken and wafflesLove the chicken and waffles and pigs in a blanket. Be sure to try a Mai tai. Yummy.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEven in Chicago, as good as it getsAmazing. Just a superb restaurant with fantastic cocktails. Great service. Great people.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite restaurant in the citySable is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city. I think the reason it is so outstanding is because it has balance. It's trendy without being pretentious, nice without being stuffy, and delicious without being intimidating when it comes to food. The service is always the perfect balance of attentive without being intrusive, too, which I especially appreciate. I took my mom and my sister here for a night out in the city and they were blow away. And the food itself is to die for, but the overall experience is what makes me come back again and again. Thank you, Sable, for an amazing evening, as always.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAttentive service and a birthdayAttentive service and a birthday bonus made this an enjoyable night for me and a friend. From the hostess to the servers to the waitstaff, everything was smooth and seamless. The server offered helpful suggestions and was very knowledgable about the drink menu. The wine recommendation was spot on and the food was amazing. They have 1/2 and full portions for most dishes, so even a twosome can try several. The poutine and pork belly were my personal favorites.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a client who gets takenTook a client who gets taken out a lot--she had never been and was pleased to be taken to a new and yummy place4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSo good! The food, drinks,So good! The food, drinks, and service at brunch were all so good. I do wish the waiter had warned us we were ordering too much food but that's my only complaint. He did a great job of pointing us to a good cocktail selection. That's important because the drink list is quite long and lists many ingredients that were unfamiliar to me. Food was good to very good. Started with the scones with the savory bacon jelly. They were wonderful. I had a half order of the tamale and a half of the brown rice/vegetables/egg dish. My friend ordered a full serving of the chicken and waffles that turned out to be four waffles each with a fried chicken breast on top. My favorite - the brown rice dish. Left quite full and definitely will return.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Place!Excellent Sunday Brunch. Went there based on other reviews and was NOT dissappointed. The Baked goods, ie: sticky bun and monkey bread were sinfully delicious. The jelly donuts were heavenly. Ordered a few of the "smaller" portions of entrees: the shrimp and grits, corn tamale and smoked salmon....ALL were fabulous. Great service, great decor. Will return and tell others of this great spot.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss it!Love the vibe of the restaurant and food was contemporary and delicious. Service was perfect considering we had reservations and limited time for a gourmet experience. Loved the bar later in the evening! Superb cocktails that you would not find anywhere else! Those bartenders know their stuff!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Easter brunchWe went for Easter brunch - the food was phenomenal - highly recommend3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery single item that weEvery single item that we ordered was beyond excellent. Sable definitely knows how to make their drinks well too, our favorites were "War of the Roses" and "Point Taken". We absolutely loved the bacon jam and the shrimp and grits, better than the shrimp and grits from any place in NOLA! Service was attentive and on point. We had a reservation for much later but landed up at the restaurant 40 minutes earlier. Despite that, they accommodated our request to be seated earlier and we only had to wait for a few minutes for a table. We'll definitely be going back to try the rest of deliciousness on the menu.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the Truffle Burgers! Two words: Truffle burger!!!!!!! The entire experience was incredible!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing small plate comfort foodSable was a great find. Tucked away in the Palomar Hotel, you would not even know it was there unless you ask in the lobby! Lighting is low but not too low. Noise was moderate, you can still hold a conversation. Small plates of amazing comfort food were delicious!! Service was exceptional. Will definitely be recommending Sable to others.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMStellar lunch menu, far betterStellar lunch menu, far better than a 'hotel restaurant' ever needs to be. Lovely service and stunning desserts.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dinner Spot and Amazing Food! The food at Sable was excellent. My friends and I had never been and our server was very helpful in recommending items for us to try. The bacon jam was fantastic and so were the shrimp and grits. I definitely recommend doing small plates, so you can try a lot of items.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend was visitingMy boyfriend was visiting the states from Australia and we planned a getaway to Chicago. We were searching for a perfect date night restaurant during our stay. Our hotel recommended Sable, as many of the restaurants we searched were not vegetarian friendly. The menu is balanced with meat and vegetarian options and has an extensive drink menu that we both enjoyed. The atmosphere was energentic, yet romantic and intimate in our dining area. The price was very reasonable for the dishes and quality of food. The service was exceptional (our server was Jeff) from the moment we walked in. We are still raving about our experience at Sable and looking forward to sharing it with others. Thank you!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI travel all over the worldI travel all over the world at least 15 times a year and this is one of the GREAT restaurants. Informed staff, inventive menu and food prepared with great care round out my opinion of this Chicago gem.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this place! It's notLoved this place! It's not for those with timid taste buds as everything we had was seasoned with a heavy hand. If bold is your thing, this is the place. Shrimp and grits were great and the special Chef's Week duck entree was crazy good. The drinks are the co-stars at Sable so be sure to sample one or two. Our server was extremely helpful in selecting pairings. For dessert, get the chocolate soufflé.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were apprehensive aboutWe were apprehensive about returning to Sable. While the food on our last visit had been amazing, the service had been less than sub-par. What a complete change at lunch today. Amazing attentive service and the most delicious food!3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first brunchThis was our first brunch at Sable. It did not disappoint! I love the fact that the wait staff provide sound suggestions on the various items as well as the number of items to order. Definitely get the small portions and share. I try to order at least one item from each section of the menu. We ordered too much – but who cares! The waiter said he could wrap the leftovers, but there were no leftovers. What we ordered for our party of two: warm pecan sticky bun, pigs in a blanket, soft scrambled eggs, “bruleed” steal cut oatmeal, coffee, and a Bloody Mary. Next brunch: I will regrettably skip the freshly baked selection if it’s just a party of two. Sable is making it difficult to complete my quest to visit every Chicago restaurant!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is contemporary, creative,Food is contemporary, creative, fresh and delicious.....my go-to restaurant3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLove, love, love! AlwaysLove, love, love! Always take out-of-town guests here, and have never been disappointed!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBuzzing. Friendly server andBuzzing. Friendly server and great small plates. Try the spicy scallops!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience. TheWonderful experience. The vegetable risotto and berry cobbler were delicious and the wine selection was perfect. My new favorite spot.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVirginI was a first timer. The food was great. Our waiter was wonderful. I shared the short rib slider with my friend and had the grits and shrimp as my entree. The short rib slider was tender and topped with crispy onions. Yum. The grits and shrimp were spicy just like I like them And did I say de--li---cious! And then, OMG, I had the wonderful bread pudding for dessert. I'll be back and will bring others with me.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat and unique drinks..wow!Great and unique drinks..wow! pork sliders and tuna tartare amazing (I don't like seafood)3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and accommodatingWhen we arrived we weren't sure where the entrance was and the hotel hostess said, "follow the noise." We were concerned that it was going to be a noisy bar scene. We'd chosen it because it appeared to accommodate vegetarians. However, the setting was pleasant and the acoustics/design seemed to absorb any noise. We really enjoyed the selection and variety of food available to us--it was all very good. We were encouraged to modify any item to our liking--we could have a different sauce with dessert or half again of something else--it is rare for a restaurant to be that open and accommodating. The service was excellent and as it was our first meal upon arriving in Chicago, it was a great kick off to our stay.3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, fantasticFantastic food, fantastic drinks! Worth waiting for a seat!3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA favoriteAlways a good option! We make an effort to go whenever we are in Chicago. Love their Chicago cocktail and the truffled devil eggs. They have an extensive cocktail menu that's a blast just to sit and read. Lots of small plates to choose from - the jerky, chicken and waffles, spaghetti squash salad all excellent choices.2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWow...absolutely wonderful...dishesWow...absolutely wonderful...dishes were appropriately sized for Tapas style food...the pork belly was one of the best dishes I've ever had...unique and clever drinks and great service made this so outstanding!!2/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
