  • "I went for brunch on a Saturday. The environment is a bit stale, in my opinion. It feels more like a club or a super trendy hotel lobby than a restaurant. I prefer something a little more warm and inviting. The cocktail list is impressive. I ordered the Easy Street and although the bourbon flavor stood out, it was still an easier drink. The truffle deviled eggs were tasty--fluffy and decadent. The pork belly egg biscuit was actually sliders rather than a sandwich. The pork belly was mostly fat and the sandwich wasn't all that flavorful. The biscuit was nice and flaky though. The cocktails are definitely the standout here. Food was only okay. My server was very friendly."

We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the experience. The food and drinks were divine and the service could not have been better.   • "We have stayed at the Hotel Palomar many times and have dined and had cocktails at Sable, which is on the first floor of the hotel, many times since it opened a few years ago. We know of many great places to dine in Chicago and have our pick now that we live here. And, Sable always is as good as it gets. The management is always friendly and helpful, the wait staff and servers are on the ball, the kitchen crew works feverishly to turn out great, consistently great, food, and the quality and creativity of Heather Terhune and her chefs is outstanding. Whether you share dishes, which many are designed for, or have your choices to yourself, the flavors of each appetizer, entree, and desert are marvelous, and never cease to amaze."

  • "Read lots of good reviews and was excited to try this place as we were from out of town. Some interesting dishes to share or not. I liked the food but hubby did not as much. In a city with many good options, I wouldn't go back. the bacon jam is amazing. Careful also when you split the bill, the suggested amounts for tips printed on the receipt are for the total amount, not split, so if you just write what they suggest, it's double!"

  • "Had a wonderful meal, as always. This is a laid back place, with an innovative menu. Service is relaxed as it should be for multi course small plate meals and everything was beautifully executed. The portions are very generous. My 12 year old loved the fun dishes like cheese curds and chicken and waffles. Nice touch--I ordered a steak dish very rare and it properly came out on a cold plate. So many restaurants miss that step. Will be back and highly recommend it."

  • "Enjoyed a great meal here. You can purchase most items in a smaller size like a "small plates" restaurant. You get to try a variety of food that way. Most amazing thing on the menu was the deviled eggs. Seriously. I'd go back just for those. Also enjoyed the veal meatballs and the Mac & cheese. Several items we wanted to try but ran out of room. Full bar, extensive wine list. Flatbread pizzas looked great too!"

  • "From the moment we entered, we loved it. Our server Marty was PHENOMENAL- SO knowledgeable about the food and drinks, and he welcomed our many questions with kindness. The vibe in the place for a Saturday night was great. Vibrant, but not too busy and loud. We were welcomed by an "amuse booche" (or however you say it), and it started our meal off totally on the right foot. We shared a brussel sprout salad, veggie burgers, a pasta dish that was a special, and potatoes that was a special. All the food was absolutely mind blowing! We couldn't decide on wine, so Marty gave us tasters of four different kinds! Not only was the wine good, the cocktails extras tasty, and food to die for, but Marty's service made the experience unforgettable."

  • "...it will decide what it wants to be. I think they are celebrating 4 years but the menu shows that they're not quite sure what they want to be. The tapas/gastro pub/pan global menu shows quite a range so there's not a good way to say what kind of food it won't do. This way it won't ever be a destination, but if you stay at the Palomar next door you have a very decent place to eat. Diners in my party liked the mushroom flatbread, veggie slider, the tuna tostadas and the vegetable curry (nice and spicy). Our server was very attentive."

  • "Booked a birthday dinner for my husband here. What an amazing experience. From the experienced and friendly staff to the creative and delicious cocktails, to the amazing food and the special birthday treat, this was an exceptional night. The chef talked to us a few times, so wonderful to see that they care that much. The food is top notch with a very large vegetarian selection that is out of this world. The entire staff is dedicated and professional, and we especially enjoyed our waiter Rachel. She knew the menu perfectly and made excellent recommendations. The special birthday cupcake (to bake at home) was such a cute and unexpected surprise. This is a dining adventure, not somewhere you go just to eat. I cannot wait to go back."

  • "I am a chef, FYI The syrup on the chicken and waffles had none of the alcohol cooked off so it was like a soggy waffle dripping in maple syrup flavored bourbon and average chicken strip on top. The pootine had huge fries that were barely cooekd all the way (not crispy) that were drenched in a super salty braising that was then thicken, not a traditional gravy. The chicken waws overbraised to the point that you couldnt actually see any chicken, just strands of meat floating around a pool of limp fries and saltiness. I was excited to read the menu cause it was like something i would have come up with. It read real well but executed very badly. Dissapointed in the Top Chef contender, she was even on line the night I was there..."

  • "We reviewed the menu before reserving a table. It seemed like Sable Kitchen was offering a good variety of dishes. I was prepared for chicken & waffles or mac 'n cheese like someone's grandma had made. Not the case! Maureen, our server, offered us the choice of small plates or full orders. She made comments about her favorites that were welcomed. Our chef delivered a appetizer taste to we first timers, a nice touch. The atmosphere was up scale, but I'll show my age by calling it funky too. Order flatbreads or short rib sliders with a glass a wine and get off cheap. Or go big and expand your taste buds. We'll go back for seconds and probably thirds."

  • "I heard great reviews about the bar and the ambiance, that side of the restaurant seemed okay. A friend and I had reservations for brunch but constantly felt rushed when the server kept reminding us that the kitchen would be closing at 2pm on Saturday. Reservations for 1:30pm or 1:45pm should not be offered for brunch if the kitchen is closing at 2pm. We waiting 15 mins just for one brunch cocktail, then another 15 mins for the other cocktail that was ordered, putting us already at 2pm. The food arrived rather quickly and looked completely thrown together. I would say that if you want the bar menu and the bar scene go after 2pm but definitely skip brunch."

He offered to return anything we didn't like (and we took him up on it after my date wanted a cocktail with vodka and he suggested she try it as advertised, with gin. she didn't like it and he gave her one with vodka). He also let us cancel our poutine order, even though i really wanted it, but he knew that we were maxed out. the food was superb. will definitely come back!"

  • "We to Sable for a group of four people. It was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was so knowledgable and fun to talk to a for first timers that was important for us. The option of half or full portions let us share a ton of stuff. We had everything from homemade beef jerky to chicken and waffles to cioppino! The drinks were creative and tasty! I would recommend this place a thousand times over. Only regret is being too full to try more!!!!"

Had the deviled eggs, truffle butter burgers, bacon jam and pozole rojos. My friends from Mexico were very impressed with the pozole!! Burgers melted in your mouth. We ordered 5 dishes (told 6 halves was best, but played it safe) and though it was wayyy too much food, it was extremely fair in pricing, and the food was phenomenal. Definitely the classiest place to get amazing chickenandwaffles, poutine, macandcheese, pierogies, and much more. Also, if whiskey and gin are your thing, get there asap!"

  • "I hate to say that this place is quite overrated and expensive for the mediocre food you are getting. Our server was great and even brought us complimentary banana nut bread since it was our first time. But everything was just okay, sadly. The grits were watery, the banana nut bread was extremely oily and buttery, and the pork belly biscuit sliders were so dry! We had to ask for condiments, and even still, they were just okay. For the price of the food along with the fact that none of the flavors were memorable, I have to say I'll never return. The place itself is beautiful. Great decor, and the service is great. Although, they didn't check me in for my Open Table reservation. ;)"
