A word from Sabio
Sabio opened in April 2012 as a trendy casual fine dining experience inside the historical Dudley Square school house. The dudley Square building served as the third city school for Lexington. We chose the name Sabio because of it's rough translation to "being wise and educated," a title befitting the educational history of the buildings.

The real reason you'll love Sabio as much as our passionate regulars isn't because of our location or beautiful decor, it's the food.

French American cuisine with Spanish and Caribbean influences, our menu offers a little bit of everything. Most importantly, we make our food fresh. Farm-to-table as they say. Our menu, prepared by Executive Chef and Owner Javier Lanza, uses only the finest Kentucky Proud ingredients buying from local farms and even growing all of herbs on property in our own garden.

We went to Sabio for a romantic date night on a Sunday and was not disappointed. The crowd was minimal, we were seated in the bar away for a rambunctious party. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. The food was fantastic!! The review on the green bean appetizer were spot on...MUST HAVE!! We also had the shrimp & grits and they were delicious!! You must try the duck entrée, the meat was tender and cooked perfectly!! All in all we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend Sabio to anyone looking for a great menu and terrific service.

Our second trip to this outstanding restaurant; invited friends from Louisville and we all loved it! From the lobster mac and cheese to the fried green tomatoes salad to the osso bucco, everything was perfect. Service was attentive but not overbearing. This is a great Lexington restaurant, but they must just rely on word-of-mouth because we were unaware of how good this place was before stumbling on it in October. We know now, and we will definitely be back.

Good food in a lovely setting. The wok-fried green beans are wonderful. I often get the special of the day if it is fish, and the dishes are always nicely flavored, and interesting without being over the top. A friend had the filet, which was perfectly cooked. I would have rated the ambience higher, as I really like the setting, in an old school with exposed brick, but it was cold.

My first visit to this alluring restaurant located in Dudley Square. Excellent service from Emtre. She readily answered our questions about wines and food selections. We chose Fried Green Tomato and Asian Salads to start. Both had well-blended flavors that didn't overwhelm the palate. Main courses chosen were Airline Chicken and Scallops. Both tasty and beautifully presented. Would have liked more locally produced food options. Located in an old school bldg., really liked the high ceilings and arching doorways, brick walls. Tables nicely spaced. Space for larger parties.

Sabio delivers every time we visit! The food is by far the very best in town (my husband and I are avid restaurant diners). From the gorgeous decor to the exceptional food beautifully presented to the hosptiable staff anticipating your every need, Sabio has it all. Nowhere in Lexington can you receive the quality of food and service you receive at Sabio. Nowhere. Lunch, brunch, dinner...time and again Sabio delivers.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Sabio. We sat in the bar on a Monday and it was quiet. The Wok Seared Green Beans were a great starter. I had the duck breast and enjoyed it. However, the "root vegetable puree" was essentially mashed potatoes. I would have expected some other flavors (sweet potato?, turnip?, parsnip?, etc.) My wife the pork shanks. The meat was tender but it wasn't seasoned well enough. Rather bland. And it was barely warm. The wait staff seem to keep taking away the bread baskets even when there was bread left in them.

Everything was great except that we were seated outside in a tent in mid October. They had a fire place and heaters, but that did little to warm up my 94 year old grandfather. We had a reservation, but I never thought that I would need to specify in door seating when it was 40 out. Food and service were excellent.

Dined here with my family, so we were a party of 9. Plenty of room at the table and in the room. Food is amazing -- scallops, rib eye, salmon, halibut -- everyone loved their meal. Presentation is amazing. Good wine. They were very busy and a young man, clearly not a server, took care of our table. He did a great job! My only knock is the noise. We were practically shouting at each other to be heard. I have dined outside here, as well, which has a much quieter vibe. They had a fireplace going and a tent up over the usually open courtyard. Looked delightful. Individual table umbrellas during the "outdoor" season.

The food at Sabio was phenomenal, but everything else failed to meet expectation. We had a reservation, but were seated 35 minutes late. The owner called to let us know they were behind, however it was only 10 minutes before our reservation so we were already en route to the restaurant. As I said, once we received our dinner, the food was delicious. However, we waited more than 45 minutes to received our food, with no apology from our server or the owner. In addition, we ordered drinks to be delivered with our meal and did not receive them until after we were finished eating. We were a party of 10, but ordered few drinks and only dinner, no appetizers, so we were low maintenance. Despite the good food, I can't recommend the restaurant.

LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! Party of six adults looking forward to a social/relaxing dinner after a day at the races. Seated in the bar area and it was so loud and distracting you could not hold a conversation. We had to ask the server to repeat himself several times. He was patient, friendly and accommodating. Lobster risotto was over fried and lobster was non-existent. Steaks were good. Salmon was dry. Scallops were very good. Bacon bits in luke warm whipped potatoes were hard and added no flavor.Texture was annoying. Pasta was flavorful, heavily coated and rendered the presentation less than appealing. Experience did not meet our expectations per the Sabio web site and reviews. Web site menu has not been updated to coincide with restaurant menu.

First time at Sabio's. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were seated within 10 minutes of arrival. However, the hostess apologized for being over booked and seated us in the bar area. The noise level was off the charts. We asked to be moved, but nothing else was available. Service was good, all the staff was friendly and apologetic, but we had to wait 50 minutes for our food. Once our food finally arrived, it was very good and I will go back to try other dishes. Next time I will know to request a table outside of the bar area and allow extra time. I was surprised that I did not have a manager stop by and offer an apology or a complimentary drink for our extended wait.

Had drinks in the bar before dinner. The bar was busy but fun and the drinks were excellent! Unfortunately, the great service in the bar didn't carry over to the dining room. After we were seated, our server didn't take our drink orders for 10 mins. Our drinks arrived quickly, but then after placing our entree orders, we asked for bread that didn't arrive. 10 mins later, asked for bread again and never arrived. Our entrees were well played and were very tasty. My Ribey was well cooked (med rare) but was extremely tough! My wife's pork was exceptional. Unfortunately, our server never checked on us after the entrees were delivered, and I had to ask for every drink refill I got. I would try Sabio again, but hope service is improved.

Everything we ordered was excellent including the presentation, with the exception of the fried green tomato salad (very overdone with the dressing). However the service was extremely slow. We do not mind paying a premium for this type of dinner, but expect excellent service for these prices. We understand the kitchen can be backed up on a busy Friday night, but please be attentive with service including filling water glasses, serving cocktails and wine and at least bring bread to the table after the entree order is placed. We had to ASK to order before dinner cocktails about 15 minutes after being seated and it well over an hour before we even had bread on the table (We also had to ask for it).

Have dined at Sabio's twice; once inside and once outside. Both were memorable experiences. The ambiance was remarkable - quiet and romantic. The food and the service were exceptional. The portions are certainly large enough to share, too; even the salad. And they do all of the splitting prep in the kitchen, which is classy!! Great location, great decor. Food was tasteless. Barest basic seasonings. Filet was good quality but lacked even a touch of salt or pepper, as far as I could tell there wasn't anything seasoned. Rack of lamb was served rare and the quality was poor. Chewy and stringy. Duck breast was good as was the vegetable puree but was served over a violet colored sauce that was unappealing. Appetizers were lobster risotto, nearly over done in the fryer but tasty inside. Dungenes crab cake was mostly a deviled crab cake, not lump as our server indicated. I would probably try it again, assuming this time was a fluke since most of the reviews of the food have been positive. Service was okay not great.

The hostess greeted us warmly & appropriately. However, we found the young woman who waited our table to be uncommunicative, unresponsive, almost unfriendly. Once she brought us our food & asked a minute or two later how we were doing, we didn't see her again until much later. If the restaurant was busy (little sign of that, though some diners were outside), they should have additional staff. Food, BTW, was excellent but high-priced.

We took out if town guests because of the historic building In which Sabios is located. Also because we know the food is good and the menu is varied. We had a wonderful evening. The tables are placed far enough apart that diners are unaware of others conversations. We all chose different entrees and we all loved our choices the waiter was attentive without being obtrusive. We sat for quite a while after eating and we were left alone to enjoy our conversation. We have eaten lunch at Sabiis many times. I will definitely put it on the list for dinner as well.
