Chef Camille Becerra focuses on seafood and vegetables, working closely with the Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op to source her produce. A raw bar offers fresh oysters, clams and sea urchin for uni toast along with blinis and house-cured fish and caviar; seedy crackers and primo sardines. Larger plates include crispy gnocchi with roasted pumpkin, tonnato and poached egg as well as an ocean trout encroute for two. Items such as the Crispy sweet potatoes accompanied by walnuts, pomegranate, green olives and herbs, are a reflection of Navy's zeal for coaxing the maximum flavor out of vegetables with the help of herbs and spices.
The space is designed with a maritime WWII aesthetic in mind. Antique Japanese indigos become curtains, while French linen and vintage military canvas cover the wall.

One of Long Island's oldest and most colorful restaurants. From its start in 1905, Louis Zwerlein's "Kare Killer" was a most unusual place. One had to get there by boat since it was built on a floating barge anchored out in the bay. One of its side attractions was that it afforded a fine view of the approaching boats from shore. On occasion, a husband sighting his wife on a course for the barge would dive headlong off the far side and strike out for Great Neck.
When prohibition killed the Kare Killer in 1916, the business moved to a spot adjacent to the Town Dock, renting boats, selling chowder and other seafood. Another move in the early thirties placed the restaurant in its present location still on the Main Street waterfront. In 1954, it was expanded into an adjoining building that had originally been a blacksmith shop.

Eric Miller will rely on his relationships with local fishermen and baymen to source the best possible quality ingredients.

Sample menu items include a raw bar menu with local littleneck clams and dishes such as Dayboat sea scallops with sweet pea risotto and roasted pepper vinaigrette or spit-roasted Long Island duck. A series of public special events is in the works, including clambakes, barbeques and whole animal roasts in Miller's BBQ smoker. We can't wait to check it out this summer.

In 1940 Franklin E. Barmore Sr. purchased the land where the current Shrimp Box now sits to become a commercial fishing dock. The Barmore Family consisting of Frank Sr., Edith, and Frank Jr., ran the dock and the adjoining retail fish market, selling and transporting fish along the Atlantic Coast.

In 1953, with Frank Jr. and Mom Barmore (now a widow) decided to open a small take-out seafood stand to keep her occupied. After several years, the stand was so successful it moved to the retail fish store (the current lobby and part of the kitchen) and expanded it's seating to 36 from the four original counter stools.

Frank Barmore died in 1982, leaving the restaurant to his wife and daughters.
In the end of the 1999 season, the Shrimp Box ownership was transferred to Nick Gyftakis and George Pappas. Nick and George have been in business together since the 1970's. With their combined restaurant history, your dining experience is sure to be memorable.

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a buffet brunch is served on Sundays. Our new Sunday Supper features a three course menu for $29 per person. The Wine Bar offers more than 70 wines by the glass and half glass tastings and is available for receptions up to 25 people. For private dining, Blue Morel features the Wine Room, which seats up to 18 guests. For larger events, weddings and bar mitzvahs, elegant rooms are available to accomodate up to 400 guests.
